| Gleeson, GB centre. Big past.
But does everyone on here posting about the topic seriously think that he is going to be the one pill that solves all our ills ?
Rumour abounds about his 'social' life. Saints got rid of him, now Wire have got rid of him.
Wigan are currently playing some real dross rugby, one man drives x5 plus a kick.
Can one new player really turn the whole season around ?
I have ultimate faith in our chairman and I am happy with this signing, but people on here perhaps need a slight reality check.

| IMO he's an improvement. So I think it's a good move, plus we've lost Mathers.

He wont transform the team overnight but he will improve the team immediantly. For the first time since 2002 we will have 2 quality centres who can create tries for their wingers. We now don't have to opt to playing Bailey at centre.
The rumours about his social life are just that rumours. The lad is clearly thrilled to be joining Wigan.

| You make improvements one step at a time. Our right centre slot was a problem. It has now been fixed with a very good quality, long term appointment. It doesn't mend all our ills, merely let's Nobby think "Right. That's that sorted, now what's next to be put right?"
For me, prop is now the obvious next target. Get the right guy next season, again on a longish deal, and we could finally be getting somewhere.

IIRC Saints needed to raise cash and quickly at the time, and as for his time at Wire hes never been slated until now when hes gone so im more than confident hes going to complete the back 5 for the next 3 n half years but as a team we are weaker in other areas id agree.

And therein lies the problem!
Too many Wiganners think that 1 "Change" will solve all the problems, it won't!
But this is a Major step towards where we need to be be in 12/18 months time!

Correct. There are no quick fixes any more.
If such a thing was possible, Barrett would have performed that function for us.
Saints and Leeds built their current sides up over several years of steady growth and sensible decision-making. We did much the same thing in the early 90s. The 94 WCC winning side had been evolving since Graham Lowe's arrival in 86.
That's the way we must do it. But we've had a glaring gap in the centres for several years now - since Renouf left if we're honest. And this signing goes a considerable way to filling it.

| i don't know gleeson personally but i have worked with him at wire on a few occasions. All i can say is the guy is rediculously quiet, you struggle to get 2 words out of him, but he is also very easily lead, seriously, even if i said jump he would and i was only a community coach. He seems a lovely lad, but i can see that being in clubs like warrington (we all know what their like) and around people like Sean Long, how it can get him into bother.
From that i think he's been scape-goated a bit. Saints wanted to look like they we're "dealing" with the betting situation but didn't want to scarifice long, so gleeson was the only option and a bit of a knee jerk reaction (not that i'm condoning what he did and quite rightly lost his place a a top team). However at wire i can confidently tell you he's not in the main group of idiots, and it seems has made an effort to stay away from them, he's not perfect i'm sure, but again seems to have matured.
i HOPE that he will be able to stay on the right track under someone he's familiar with like noble and in a town he lives in. I HOPE he stays away from the "socialites" at wigan, which i think with his maturity he will.
Noble always seem to get the best out of him at GB, no matter his domestic form he always played well internationally so hopefully they can spark that again. Plus like some have said its better than what we had and can't get any worse.

| Regardless of the what ifs or maybes about Gleesons social life - for the first time in god knows how long we now have a threat to the opposition in both centres and two wingers who can finish. This has to improve us as a side.
IMO our 2 - 5 are on paper the best in the league and that includes Saints and Leeds.

He wasn't but he was still in the squad and there was always that worry he might get another chance. Now he can't although whats the bet he now finally finds his feet and rediscovers his pre NRL form!

It could simply be Wire needed the money given the Inland Revenue is sniffing around and is supposedly after a 6 figure sum for unpaid tax and/or N.I. contributions.

No he can't and if he has to look after Smith defending on the right side he won't look any better than any other we play in the right centre slot (when it comes to defense)!

I agree you have to make improvements one step at a time but I think we could have already addressed the prop situation. Players were available so while we have fixed one problem it was not the most pressing one IMO.

Nor mine but Nobby feels differently. The only concerns I've heard him raise are that the team is too young and he needed a centre. Well, he's got his player and raised the experience level/ average age of the squad. Does this heap even more pressure on him?

And maybe Humpty Dumpty & Scrooge didn't think they could fix the problem with the money/players availabe at the time????
Either way Dave I look at our backline compared to 3or4 years ago and can hardly stop Smiling!
Coley gone end of year (Surely!) and Bailey (Or at least on vastly reduced terms) To bring in a New Sh1tHou5e Prop with maybe a New 6 or 7 dependant on what happens with TL & where we envissage ST playing (I see him more as a 7??)
