| I would think Madge would honour his 3 year contract. He doesnt strike me as the sort of bloke who would say "ah look I have had a better offer from Oz".

| Get used to it.
Its pretty obvious that Madge is going to get linked with just about every job going back in Oz.
He will see out his contract with Wigan but we may have a fight on our hands to keep him longer than that.

| Lets face it Madge is seen as the next big thing.
He was already highly regarded in the NRL before he moved to Wigan and now with his success here I’m sure he’s held in an even higher regard. If you were the chairman of an NRL club you'd be crazy not to at least enquire about Madge. Look at what the guy has going for him;
He’s a fully trained teacher which is a skill many people overlook but his ability to teach the players new things or pass info on a concise and effective way is what makes guys who weren’t great players but students of the game good coaches.
His first role was as a strength and conditioning coach so has a good grounding in not only tactics, coaching methods but fitness based coaching as well.
He served an apprenticeship at one of the NRL’s premier teams. Whilst at the storm he was working closely with world class players and under one of the best coaches in the game. He even took control over the first team duties whist Bellamy was on SOO duty.
In his first ever head coaching role he’s turned a bunch of serial underachievers into SL Champions and is one game off making them World Champions.
He knows what it takes to win trophies and work in pressure environments.
But most importantly, imo, he’s done all this with little fuss or drama. It’s the measure of the man that he didn’t have to make wholesale changes to achieve his goals at Wigan. Everything good we’ve done this season has been based on a strong work ethic, team spirit and dedication to the cause. Madge has handled himself with the up most dignity and although there is a list as long as my arm of coaches who have taken pot shots at his team or tactics I’m struggling to think of a time he's risen to it?
The guy is a class act

Where on Earth do you get this from?
We really should be way past the stage of appointing fondly remembered ex-players who have almost no record of coaching success.
Nothing I've seen or heard about Faz in recent years makes him even close to being qualified to taking up the coaching reins once Madge goes home.
Madge has done such cutting-edge work with the Wigan team that I wouldn't even appoint Edwards to follow him, unless it were in some apprentice capacity.

| This was always going to happen to be honest, he's very well thought of in oz and done a great job in turning wigan from nearly men into champs.
We had it with millward and anderson ( NOT POTTER THO ) and hudds have had it with brown.
When aussie coach does well over here they get linked with any job that maybe available.
I've not seen a great deal or know much about maguire but he seems a man of his word and very honest guy. I can't see him leaving before his deal was up unless he has the family problem some overseas get.
You never know, you lot might want him out this year if you can't back up last seasons form

Much of the cutting edge stuff Madge has done includes going down 2 places like Wasps and talking with Edwards.
Although I want Wane to succeed Madge, as I think it's Wane's time and he's earned it Edwards is a viable option.
Let's not put our head in the sand RU is a progressional sport, with big money involved and guys like Edwards will be just as cutting edge as their RL counterparts when it comes to training, fitness & match prep the other parts such as RL tactics will come natural to Edwards as well.

I don't pretend to have professional coaching insights, but after appointing one of the best young coaches at Melbourne, and seeing us reap the rich (some would say inevitable) rewards, I would be very disappointed indeed with IL if he then replaced him with the head coach of Saracens RU. Not unless Farrell was prepared to come to Wigan as an assistant for a period first.
I don't care what anyone says, RL and RU - whether they're both professional or not - are significantly different games in many areas. I'd call it blind optimism to expect a coach from another sport to take over from Madge and continue with the same degree of success.
With regard to Edwards, I'd be less nervous, given that he seems to have a track record of coaching achievement which is very widely respected. But I too think the job should go to Shaun Wane. He's earned it more than anyone else.

From a outside point of view, i agree.
Both faz and edwards have been out of league now for a long time. I wouldn't be happy with any of them two if i was a wigan fan.

I wouldn't be happy with Faz but I'd be optimistic of our chances with Edwards.
But as you said it's Wane's job.
The real question is who would be his number 2??

| I'll be happy if Maguire serves his full 3 year deal and suprised if he does more but the clubs in great shape now and we all know who'll get the job next. It will eventually go to Shaun Wane and as Priestman85 says the only real question is who Wane's assistant would be.
My money would be on Rads and i'd be confident of that partnership keeping up the good work thats been started.

to replace Craig Bellamy who will replace Ivan Henjak at the Broncos.
Rumour has it Henjak will be reviewed after 10 weeks.
Lets hope for Wigan it is just a rumour.
www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 1a4ac.html
So would he go? And if he did would it make a big difference to Wigans aspirations of continuing their recent success?

| already a thread on this. Most people tend to agree that Maguire seems to be the kind of bloke that would honour his 3 year contract, and when it does end we wont be any worse off with Wane in charge.

| Lets put some facts into that fake title
Quote Talk is Wigan coach Michael Maguire, regarded as one of rugby league's brightest prospects, could be lured home to take over at Melbourne next year, freeing up Craig Bellamy to return to Brisbane where he was Bennett's right-hand man for several seasons.'"
