| Hi all great result tonight but looking on the t.v. tonight i noticed that the North Stand was closed and the Cas fans where put in a section of the East Stand. Looked to be 200 hundred plus. Whoever is in charge of the DW does not want to pay staff and is confident there will be no trouble. Also the announced crowd was just over 10,000. Looking on the t.v. it looked 8.500 MAX The East stand only had 2,500 max South 3 ,500-3,800 and West around 1,500-2,000 The club will have to pay tax on tonights gate and will make a loss is my prediction is true

Non attending season ticket holders are counted, predominantly kids given its a Thursday night game.

What you getting at Sherlock ?
North stand gets closed often when travelling team has poor following.
Attendance did look shocking. Thursday games not helping I’m guessing.

Very poor following, the buses from Wakefield mustn't have stopped.

| In fairness to Cas, us charging the away fans we decide to move to the east stand £30 is poor form. Times are tough for plenty of people and we don’t want to price people out of games.
Damned if they do, damned if they don’t I suppose when it comes to the club trying to stem the losses but I think banging the ticket prices up is a lazy way of doing that.

I agree, £30 a ticket on a Thursday night when the game is live on SKY was hardly going to bring the masses.

Ouch didn't realise that they are being charged that much, makes no sense to me of course yih shouldn't rely on away support but at least try and tempt.them over.
I fear a poor crowd come Friday to be honest as well but we shall see.

| It’s not good and the club needs a rethink for me. If a family with two kids wanted to come from Cas to that game on Thursday, this would’ve been the ticket costs-
2 Adult tickets-£60
2 U18’s tickets-£42 (Non ST child price)
They may need to eat out to make the game, so add another £30/40/50 maybe and then fuel prices are ridiculous. You could be talking the best part of £200 for a game that is on tv.
Yes the club isn’t a charity but surely all the clubs can work together and do their best to make it affordable. We’re a family game but in the current climate what hope would some families have of attending?!

Agreed. I've just got my Leeds A tickets for me and my eldest lad. He's 11 now and wants to go to the aways as well as home games. It's cost me £24 as an adult to stand up in that stand with no cover. We've booked coach travel as he's never done it before and wants to experience what I did as a kid for years going to away games.
So far the whole thing has cost me £62 and that's before any food or drink. At least I won't have fuel costs due to the coach but it's not cheap anymore.

A game at the old ‘best stadium in the country’ or so Leeds fans and the broadcasters tell me. As an away fan I certainly don’t class it as such.
Yeah, it’s not cheap mate but what do you do. You want to let them experience those away days and fuel that fire whilst they’re growing to love the game. I just hope all clubs and certainly my own has a think about how we can get more people to away games and that isn’t just charging the die hards more.

Just looked at the ticket map
Looks like we’ll struggle to break 5,000 at an absolute maximum going off that.

There is that I suppose. The one thing we can cling to is that this isn’t a Wigan problem. Cup attendances are dire across the board and even in football they have problems in plenty of cup fixtures.
It’s a shame we didn’t get a fixture like Saints got at Whitehaven. A sunny weekend up in Cumbria, a few beers and a good atmosphere in a smaller ground will be a good trip.

| Shame really as the ticket prices are quite reasonable tonight. Salford looked ok last week and it should, if nothing, be competitive.
That being said, we can't make out that this is either a big game or must see from a player POV.
I'm going, but I can see why many stay away.

| They spoke about a new head of marketing at the fans forum - hopefully she can find the key to boosting attendances. Saw a decent piece in the Manchester Evening News recently advertising the club so hopefully that's the start of a big push with promotion and advertising.
As for tonight and the cup/playoffs in general, it's nothing new and everyone will have known that the crowd was going to be terrible as soon as the draw was made. I don't know what the answer is to that - clearly RL season ticket holders simply don't want to pay out further for more match tickets. Add in the cost of living and it becomes a bigger problem. Just like in any business the club/sport have to make decisions on the costs/benefits of increasing and decreasing prices. I know a group of five who won't go anymore as the full adult price has risen to £30 in the stand they used to sit in. When you reach that tipping point it's cutting off your nose to spite your face - £30 x 0 = £0. £20 x 5 = £100.

I personally don't have a season ticket, but do attend most games & often on my own. My mates, who I'd class as lapsed fans, have other commitments (kids etc) and when they are free, it's hard to persuade them them to part with £30 for a ticket for what's more often than not, a poor match.
There's 4 of us going tonight and the cheaper tickets made it an easier sell. I just hope it's better than the last time they came which was the Leeds £10 game. That almost killed off any hopes I had of them coming again.
I know this is a cliché and self-fulfilling prophecy, but the lack of stars really makes it hard to attract fans. Like many Wigan fans, I've seen the best of the best play and these guys just aren't that. Now I know that, as fans, if we don't support the club those levels become unobtainable - but who was the last big name we got from Australia? Burgess perhaps? I do miss the old big name Aussie like Lam, Renouf, Pat etc.

Fair play for going on your own. Iv been in a similar boat for years - around 15 years ago I went to a St Helens school with only 2 other Wigan fans in the whole year. Went with them when I was younger but then something called 'life' happens and everyone goes in their own direction - they ended up in London and Im now in Edinburgh. Sadly I don't know any other Wigan fans these days, at least not those who actually go to the games and support them rather than just follow them. I wonder how many others are in the same boat. Still manage to plan trips home around games though when I can and usually get to 6-8 of them, usually with family.

6000 now paying 5 instead of 30 = 6000 x 25 loss
That's 150,000 less
We just need an extra 30,000 fans paying £5 to make that up

What's the Balance?
And as soon as you work that out then apply it to SL fixtures and Season tickets (that would need to be reduced as pay on the gate would be cheaper if you didnt) because now people will oy want to come to games when we charge them £5 in future and work out how long that business plan works.
Tickets weren't £30 tonight, I think they were around 23/25 in East for non ST holders and £20 for ST holders?

| Problem you have in business is once you cut your prices by 50%+ you will always find it difficult to charge full price later down the line.
Our sport suffered with credibility following the ridiculous Eddie Stobart sponsored deal which saw branded lorries but no financial income. Maybe this played some part in the reduced TV deal as well?
