| I get the feeling Bateman will probably be another game but say he is right, I’d probably go-
Hastings
Bibby Isa Gildart Marshall
Leuluai Smith
Singleton Powell Havard
Peace-Paul Farrell Bateman
Clark
Partington
Bullock
Shorrocks
It’ll be Clubb starting and Bullock not in the 17 though. If Bateman isn’t fit then Bourouh or Byrne will probably get the last bench spot.
No Williams for Wire is disappointing. It was a good story for the game.

I wonder whether we are trying to force him out as we need either the cap space or quota for whatever we have planned for next year. Makes no sense otherwise.

| Surprised to see Bateman back, wasn’t he meant to be behind Smithies, Hardaker and Manfredi returning ?
If he does play he has to play loose forward for me.
KPP playing too well to be dropped, some real strong running last week and is better than I thought he’d be defensively.
Bateman should help sure up the defensive up the middle against what I think is the best front row in SL.

I genuinely don't know one person who would have Clubb in the starting 17 when there are other options.

100% record the lad
He’s a winning machine. We shall not be beaten this entire season whilst Clubby is leading the charge

Of course how could I forget that fact.

| It’s a proper odd stat. We can’t have been missing his four carries and 13 tackles a game in that losing run but I can understand why Lam would keep him in. In fairness to Big Tony he didn’t have a bad game last week. He didn’t do big minutes but his time on the field was decent enough (8 carries for 68 metres and 20 tackles). It’s him sticking at that level that we need. It’s not ground breaking stuff but it’s workable.

| With regard to Clubb I can only conclude that he must offer some sort of influence or presence on the pitch which has an affect on the team around him, and makes it worthwhile picking him above better performing players.

| I didn't watch the game on Friday, but it was interesting to see the MEN's opinion on Clarke
Quote Mitch Clark - 7 : Another impressive cameo. His ferocious carries becoming a crowd-pleaser. Will benefit from a regular run of games.'"
Now, I probably wouldn't go as far as they have, but I do think there's a semi decent player/backup there. To drop him for Club would be a travesty imo.

| I also don't get how Singleton starts every week. His stats are awful compared to Havard who not only makes 50% more metres than Singleton, he has the same tackle %, makes less errors and gives away less penalties.

| Is Clubb playing any worse than the other big and experienced "big" front row signings, Bullock and Singleton?
If they played to the potential for which they were signed, Lam might not have to resort to playing Clubb!
Clubb is retiring at the end of the season after giving 100% for the club in a career of seven years which has included having had a major operation which is more than can be said for Bullock, Singleton and other prop forward signings during the same period.
Who will be the target for constant abuse by the same minority next season?

| I am a firm believer in picking the players who are doing well. At the moment Clarke is having his best run with us and KPP has been outstanding. I would, however, pick Hastings in the halves and O'Neil in front of AB.

Clubbs stats are nowhere near good enough for a Championship club, never mind a supposed top level SL club. I’m not saying Bullocks/Singletons are incredibly better but they’re not as poor as Clubbs are.
He has been a loyal servant to the Clubb and when you look across his full time here a good signing. But his time is done. It was done 2yrs ago. He’s deadwood and should never have been retained.

Neither are those of "top class signings" Bullock and Singleton in the last season or so.
Clarke in his odd rare appearances has even been better than them!

Whilst we should get behind and support the team and not find scapegoats, Clubb's stats are absolutely woeful.

Top class signings don’t always work out. George Burgess is an example of that.
I really don’t understand what you’re getting at. You’re contradicting yourself massively by saying on one hand criticising the criticism of Clubb and in another bereft at Bullock and Singleton not being “top class signings”.
Make your mind up.

Somebody on the other board said Bateman told them at the Wakey game that it would probably be Leigh before he was back, so I think he may be held back. Lam made a comment on Wigan TV though that seemed to hint at him being on the bench. He said something along the lines of ‘whatever minutes we get from him will be a bonus’ whilst praising the contribution of KPP. I think now is the time for that move to loose forward but I’d ease him in tonight and then start him there on Sunday if possible.
