If are suggesting we have to fund or are funding back-room staff by using the money accrued in transfer fees then I think you have a screw loose and we seriously need a cash injection from elsewhere so we are not doing this.
We have not spent a penny here anyway to secure his services. He will finish his contract with Salford and then takes up a new coaching role with us.
If you are suggesting it's a good idea to use money accrued from transfer fees to pay his wages as opposed to going toward those of replacement players I'd say that is crazy given the obvious needs of the first team.
Who are we going to sell next when the pot is empty to pay the coaching staff?

And if we increase our coaching, scouting, physio, analysis networks where do you think all the extra money will come from?
We have already signed three players for next year, maybe more. There is a salary cap to be adhered to. What do you want to do with the transfer money generated, pay tax on it?
It's better to use some of that money to find and develop the next generation.
If London go under the first thing I would do would be to employ a scout/development officer down there. All this takes money and if it has to be partly or wholly subsidised by using SOME of the transfer money, then so be it.

Correct. In an age when top signings from down under are going to decrease the more we spend trying to find the next Sam Tomkins the better.

Where did I say they were?
He may use the money to fund transfer fees as he has done in the past, or he may use it to further develop the infrastructure of the club or he may do both.

| The rumoured £240k for Joel could well have been spent on Smith £35k plus Green and Taylor for around £200k combined.
Three quality players plus change!
Next year's signings so far haven't cost a penny in Hopkins, Pettybourne and maybe Sarginson who are all OOC.
If Tom Biscoe where to be signed then he wouldn't cost as he's OOC.
IL could be getting around £100k for Mossop, maybe £100k for Hock plus maybe around £150k for Sam for each of the three years of a possible deal.
That's around £350k plus the £150k for a further two years.
As our signings won't have cost then I'd willingly spend on youth development than pay tax on the money.

Developing the infrastructure of the club should not be reliant upon transfer fees. Transfer fees imo should be ringfenced and used to attract new players.
Still I guess some fans are easily pleased.

So where do you think that money should come from? You know my views, you use what money you have where it brings the best return from wherever you get it.
IL in the past has used transfer money to bring players in, that may or may not be best use of it this time.

And how do you propose to measure that?
How do you propose to measure the benefit of this "reinvestment"?
Pretty easy with a big name transfer in when the points are being scored. A lot harder in your "what if" scenarios.
To answer your point, this funding should come from the "day to day" income of the club, or if the chairman is willing to subsidise the club (and there is an argument that as the biggest RL club in the world, this should apply to Wigan), out of his/her pocket.

Not sure what exactly it entails but we had a partnership with South Wales Scorpions and with the Wales RL national body to help develop Scorpions and the Welsh game in general before all the changes to DR came in for this season. That is still continuing. So we provide support staff as well as DR players for the Scorpions. Their head coach (can't remember his name) is one of the Wigan staff too and took that role when the partnership began. Andy Coley's job with Wigan is connected with the Welsh partnership too IIRC.
