I'm currently studying Sports Business Management at Leeds Metropolitan University, and am currently working on my dissertation. The title of which is "Licensed to Succeed", and the overall aim of the study is "To explore the effect of the introduction of the franchise system (licensing system) in Rugby League." The main focus of this will be on competitive balance and also attendances in the league.

The questionnaires are just 1/4 types of data collection i am doing, and will be used to support / counter the statistics that i have compiled. These statistics consist of a Competitive Balance analysis, which is a formula that shows how competitive our league is, as well as an attendance analysis. The final part of data collection will be interviews with SL clubs (players, coaches etc.)

=#FF4000For ethical issues no-one under the age of 18 should complete the survey, and if you are under 18 and choose to do so, then it is at your own risk. All responses given will be anonymous and as such, it means you are fully able to give a full response to each of the questions.

Just a quick question regarding the survey.

Do you want a definitive Yes/No answer, because some of the questions have reasons for it being Yes and reasons for it being No?

if you put yes, and then explain reasons for both, plus i think as a fault of the survey which cant be changed you can click both yes and no, then just explain for both! appreciate the help, and asking for clarification!

I'm not "slagging" anything.

I'm merely stating that imo that course is next to worthless. Put it this way, whenever I see a CV with that kind of course on it, it goes straight into the physical or electronic bin. Waste of time and effort in almost every way possible. The post in no way is aimed at you, rather your choice of "degree". Not your fault entirely, frankly it's the previous government who I blame.

Of course only my opinion, but one that a lot of my colleagues also share.

But it's still no reason not to hep the lad with his survey.

okay then fair enough, bit stressed at the moment and have probably over reacted due to the large amounts of inane comments coming my way, when all im trying to do is have a look at fans opinions to back up the larger parts of my research!

you do however make it seem like im studying hair and beauty ffs!

atleast i have taken the time to go to university, rather than lounging around at home on the dole, like many people my age.

id also like to state that im not your stereotypical student, i dont drink, i dont waste my time, i volunteer for the british heart foundation whilst doing my degree also.

something im confused about though, is why business management is not considered a good degree in business? okay so my course is more sports focussed but that is the only difference between that and business management. something which would surely be vital if i ever wanted to work in the sports business industry no?? im not studying law, because i dont want to be a lawyer, and its not like im studying english lit, or history. degrees that will have no bearing on the future of our country.

rant over, but as i said i apologise for accusing you of slagging me off, but ive been getting a lot of rubbish when all im trying to do is help!

Maybe others think that it's a 'Mickey Mouse' degree but at least if you're successful it shows that you are capable of putting some effort into something and developing yourself, not sitting on your a*** and thinking the world owes you a living.

Make sure you let the RFL have a copy of your dissertation as well, I'm sure they'd be interested.

Why is it? Its a business management course with a focus on sport. I have friends on courses of Business management with a focus on finance. Why is their course any better than this?

Sport is huge business and people with a degree in how to run it can only be a positive thing for sport in the future.

I'd rather have someone like that running my sports team than someone who learnt to manage by managing an underwear firm or whatever.

You've certainly picked an interesting time to be doing this dissertation. After the Crusaders fiascos and the current issues around Wakey's survival the licensing system seems to be in total disrepute. Whatever anyone thinks of the principle the way it has been implemented over the years is symptomatic of the failure of management of RL, with Widnes' financially viable bid knocked back because of the failures of previous owners (how ridiculously unfair and self-defeating does that seem now?) but accepting flimsy bids from the likes of Crusaders and deeply flawed bids from the likes of Wakey and other clubs whose promises on new stadiums turned out to be little more than hot air for many years...

There certainly is a need for more and better business management in RL, so good luck with the dissertation!
