What do a section of the east stand do immediately after? A round of applause.

The chavs at the back of the South stand? One person clapped and they all found it hilarious and used the sound of laughter to shout out random, stupid things.

The build up was fantastic last night, a shame a bunch of thick idiots with no attention span ruined it.

I cringed, it was so embarrassing.

Unfortunately, they are 13-16 years olds who were only told once, 3 minutes before they were supposed to do something. Anybody with any experience of secondary education would know they would need telling at least 10 times and then reminding again just before it happened.

Said the same to my dad at the game.

We were in the south stand and it was cringing. I could understand the mongy chavs at the back laughing at their mongy mate starting clapping because they're idiots all canned up on shandy bass but what I couldn't understand was people around me(including middle aged folk, oap's etc) starting clapping aswell.

Overall though you've got to say fairplay to Wigan last night(off the field). I thought it was a fantastic evening and a great build up and to get nearly 19,000 people on for a game against Quins is outstanding.

They clearly said a min after the guy did his thing when people started clapping i looked at lads and we was all like wtf

Fair play to that guy who shouted very loud 'shut the **** up'

I just think a lot assumed the last post was the minutes silence. The PA may well have said a silence would follow but it's not always easy to hear and with us not having had this type of silence at a Wigan game before I can see why some were confused. They'll know if their is a next time.

Exactly the same thing happened at the Leeds v Bradford game a few weeks ago, it is confusing.

Ppl don't listen, but I think lots were actually waiting for a whistle to start the minute silence.

The announcement was 'xxx will play the last post, immediately followed by a minutes silence' - Pretty clear to me.

It was within the capabilities of my eight year old son to understand it so it's a sad reflection on the mental ability of those that couldn't. Sadly this included a number of adults.

unfortunately I think it was down to communication / lack of listenting

One person clapped in the east and then everyone else seemed to join in, more as a sign of respect / appreciation, but it degenerated for a few seconds with the chavs who were quickly brought into order

I did notice that the players from both sides applauding (whether they joined in after the crowd started or not I'm not sure)

The cadets to the North side all turned and marched off as soon as the last post had played (think 2 stayed in their places)

On the whole it was a fantastic effort by all concerned. yes it wasn't perfect, but I dont believe that was through lack of respect

The applause for the serving soldiers bringing on the match ball was the biggest cheer of the night and nearly brought a tear to my eye. For some reason last night the per match really got to me and I have nothing but respect for all those who defend our country

I understood, but the ref should have blown straight after the last post, he left it for a few seconds which is why the East stand thought that was it. Absolutely no excuse for the chavs at the back laughing and joking through it though, probably been dragged up rather than brought up as the rest of us learned this from a very young age.

It was cringeworthy. Not difficult to understand in the slightest. Having said that, I wasn't totally surprised given the amount of braindead fans we have.

Same little chavs who have had a few too many beers, if you noticed it sounded like a bunch of girls laughing at stupid lads. Could do with a few stewards camped out next to the chavs or have reserved seating.

Now thats how you do a ceremony, anyone who is watching the Sharks v Knights game will know what i mean.

As for last night it was a disgrace, get over this its confusing crap, stop making excuses for the dumb idiots in the crowd. No matter whether or not some people thought it was over how can you bang a drum and start a chant immediately after??? Shows what those scum really cared about, and it wasnt paying any small tribute to our brave service personal.

Im sorry if this seems an over reaction, however it really gets to me when people cant pay basic respect to them, just for a few mins.

Was amazing last year when i was at the Roosters Ancaz day game against the Dragons. Perfectly observed ceremony, that makes you feel so proud and then they had a black hawk landing on the field. No banging of drums, chants etc just fans paying their respects and tributes....

The NRL have just shown us how it should have been done.

It was the most simple set of instructions ever.

Bentham blowing his whistle during the clapping/boo hiss/shut up didnt help.

Its the same at all the games this weekend, they do it so well, but then again the Aussies are incredibly proud when it comes to Ancaz day. Like i said it was amazing at the Rooster game last year, you couldnt help but feel proud and emotional... Just wish we could come close to that.

He even had the cheek and thickness to actually shout sorry during the minutes silence after everyone told him to shut up.
Oh and some kids near me laughing their heads off at a baby crying in it? Bloody hilarious isnt it

Just as a side note, I thought the presentation of the ball to the ref was a nice touch and the applause as they marched of the field was excellent. It raised the hairs on the back of my neck.

A minutes silence with the last post at the end is the best way to do it (as in the Cronulla v Newcastle game) not the way it was done last night as it was about face IMO.

There was nothing wrong with the way they did it last night imo, they were pretty dam simple instructions and there was no excuse for what happened, especially the laughing. Did you notice how all the fans at the Shraks v Knights games were still silent after the playing of the last post. Its a thing called respect!!!!! Some people just cant wait for the silence to end so they can shout and chant..

Let's face it the chavs of today have No respect for anything. They don't what the word means. It's a sad thing that they spoil it for everyone else. It is the same at all grounds. Every club has this element of people who in my opinion have been dragged up and not brought up. I despair for the future of this country at times.

Same thing happened when Leeds did it on TV 2 or 3 weeks ago, so it's clearly not just a Wigan thing.

They should have broken it down into sections:

1. Announcement "The Last Post"

2. The Last Post

3. Announcement "1 minute's silence"

4. 1 minute's silence.

They should have learned the lesson from the Leeds game that you do 1 thing at a time, and give the instructions as you go. It only takes 1 person to get it wrong and it ripples out into a mass of confusion, as clearly demonstrated twice now.

No excuses for the chavs who were laughing and shouting though.

it's not just wigan... this flavor of chav exists at a national level.
