When he scored i noticed he gave the 2 finger salute but i thought that was towards the cas end and prob just some samoan/tongan/nz/whtever place he is from thing.

I thought the same.

Fair result, yes it was late but I don't think it was malicious so the right out come, that's not to say that I don't think the guy should have got 10 minutes for it, but hey we got the result Sam wasn't injured by it and that's all that matters

Plus we've got to remember guys, Sam is a dirty little **** who should just go and play ****** wendyball, the puff.

Yeah, the number of times he puts his face into a players shoulder or forearm when the ball's gone or after the whistle astounds me.

Don't think it should matter that he wasn't injured. It was a late challenge off the ball and should have recieved AT LEAST a yellow, by them not punishing him they are saying it wasn't illegal, so it wouldn't have mattered wether he got injured or not, they don't rule on wether the player is injured

i think its right all things considered.
The problem was that the touch judge reported it was as sam "released the ball. " ~ (thanks to a scanner.)
that in mind, its a split second call, yellow card would have been about right nothing more.

Trouble is when you watch it again, it was well after he released the ball. He even takes another step into the challenge so he was not committed to the tackle.

It was not really worth a ban though so what can be done.

These things happen.

Good, Sergeant knew what he was doing, it was a late and dangerous hit. He doesnt necessarily deserve a ban, but at the least a reprimand.

Correct decision by the RFL.

However McGoulricks little dig after Sams first try went unpunished.

I'm sure I remember incidents in the past when players got more than a slapped wrist for making obscene gestures to the crowd.

He made no attempt to disguise it, and it was a prolonged gesture, not a flick of the wrist.

It was at the Cas end though, wasn't it?

Could he have got a yellow for the hit? I am unsure on the rules now but i know some offences are or at least were red or nothing which is stupid in my opinion.

It was late and more importantly for me it seemed like he changed direction to make sure he got him plum, which shows there was concious thought behind what he did.

All part and parcel of the game though, i think Tomkins is going to have to get used to that treatment throughout his career.

Right call by the RFL for a change in my opinion, acknowledge it was wrong and move on.

Can't understand the Widders warning letter though.

The laughable thing is a late challenge on a kicker carries an automatic yellow card, why is this not the same for a late challenge on somebody who has just passed? the 2 scenarios are almost identical yet the punishments aren't

It is a yellow for a late hit on the kicker, im not sure what the rule is regarding a man who is just standing there after a pass.

Not sure. But surely he wouldn't be giving a two-fingered salute to Cas fans. Why would he?

Maybe some individual had been giving him grief.

But whoever he made the gesture to, by his body-language and the look on his face - he's clearly too thick to make any attempt to conceal these things - he was not joking or messing around.

IMO, he should get a week's suspension for something like that.

For the record, Eddie Hemmings and co didn't seem to think it was that serious. I wonder how they'd have responded if a Wigan player had done it?

When Tomkins took the hit i remember thinking to myself 'thats the worst thing Cas could have done'.

He's not the type to hide away so unless your going to hit him that hard he stays down i wouldn't bother.
