Some Latics fans are an embarrassment to their club and themselves.

A big problem they have is their rootless nature.

When you've no past to look back on, and probably no future (if you're honest with yourselves), it's difficult to develop an understanding of who you are and what your place is in the world.

I don't think it helps them that they are also hugely disrespected by the football establishment. Many rival fans regard their club as a jumped-up dwarf owing everything it's got to a widely disliked business tycoon, hence the endless baiting and name-calling they get - that smug article the other week about Wiganers going into hibernation when the rugby season is over being a prime example. I've also seen a few of them go onto other RL boards to offer Wigan's rivals their best wishes before key matches, only to get the schiezer ripped out of them there as well. Bascially, they've got no friends anywhere.

Such isolation is bound to create a culture of shallowness and paranoia. But that in itself becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Constantly taking out their frustrations on Wigan RL will only marginalise them more, because Wigan RL are seen as part of the furniture in this town and a great asset to it - even by people who don't attend regularly. No-one I know expects Latics to last half as long or burn half as brightly.

Who cares?

They are propped up by the masses of money being in the premiership brings. A sad little club. Watched by loads of sad people with big chips on their shoulders and very small brains.

That said, the few proper latics fans I know hate their "premier league bandwagon fans" as well. To the point where they wish it was like it was sometimes.

Why the need for all the nasty hostilty is beyond me.
Especially from the ones who sit and watch the games from a pub minutes up the road from their ground. For god sakes the season tickets are practically free!

The genuine Latics fans are fine, the ones that had season tickets at Springfield Park etc. My mate is one and he's not a problem with the Rugby and I have no problem with the Latics, in that regard - A bit of banter here and there, but that's all fun and games.

It's the new breed of ex United/Everton/Liverpool/City/Bolton fans that are an absolute pain in the ars[ie[/i. Jumped up Chavs most of the time and true Keyboard warriors.

My experience is that the older fans, especially the 'never forget' brigade are the most one eyed and bitterest of the lot, a real hatred for everything Wigan RL. Most of the newer ones I've met are just clueless.

The fact the poster didn't even get banned for that comment says an awful lot - even if it wasn't towards a rugby related person. Embarrassing.

To be honest, my mate is only 20, but he's been a Latics fan since very young - the same with me and Wigan.

I've hardly seen any old timer Latics fans, but I have heard of a few who hate the Premiership malarkey.

It doesn't help their cause when Whelan in his new book states that Rugby League will always be number 1 in Wigan.

And I use to think Wire fans were bad.

The mods should be getting rid of the rugby bashing threads simply because it detracts from their club. If they are proud and loyal Lactics that are 'on the up', they shouldn't give one about us. But instead they are trying to find anything to whinge about and also making disgusting claims about an innocent man no matter who he happens to be.

They are an utter disgrace.

as another poster said i dont have a problem with the genuine latics fans who went springfield park, its the new toss pots who've only watched them since they got in premier league that i cant stand. its funny because some of these clowns used watch us at central park but now for some reason seem to hate everything about wiganrl.

To an extent the same could be said about threads like this though but rivals will always talk about each other and look to put each other down to an extent, but there is a line that most people know not to cross with that but that thread was bang out of order and must be an embarrassment to the decent fans of the club of which I am sure there must be some.

All the JCL's since 2005 are on a mission to show their mates that they hate WRLFC more than they do. Thats why the childish name calling is sinking deeper and deeper.
I ain't got a problem with the 1500 that used to go to Springfield Park having a little pop at us, as they did take alot of stick back in the 80-90's, most of which was just light-hearted banter not this vitriolic agression that is currently on show from the knuckle-draggers. If you check out Maurices interview on the BBC on a well known video sharing website which does contain a certain amount of sly insults towards WAFC (although you can't really dissagree with anything he says) you can understand why the loyal 1500 have a dislike for WRLFC.
The problem with the new tics fans is that WAFC dont have a rivals to fall-out with, nobody takes them seriously, they have no history of rivalry with any club. Utd-City, Bolton-Utd, Liv-Everton, Preston-Blackpool, Burnley-Blackburn, Oldham-Rochdale, Bury-Bolton, so they spew their hatred towards their home town team in a different sport, DUH!

I am so disgusted I have written to Stuart Hayton at Wigan Athletic to "have a word" with the site owners. If the post is still there in the morning, the local rag will get a link!

I remember what Sheffield Wednesday did to a website owner (and fan) that allowed libellous comments to be posted - I hope Messrs Heeley & Taylor get a good dose of the same.
