| I'd give him a seasons loan - he's hovering in that zone of too good for reserve football but a while off being a 1st team regular. I've seen enough for it to be worth keeping him for the future.

| IMO he didn't play well enough v Hull and Castleford and was rightly dropped.
However, he was m.o.m. in the reserve game v Bulls on Saturday.
A loan spell may do him good.
He's only just turned 21, so I wouldn't like to discard him completely.

| This seems to be an ongoing problem at Wigan at present. Youngsters who get dropped for showing poor form no longer seem prepared to fight for their places. Instead, they bang a transfer request in.
I don't know who's 'adivsing' Goulding at present, but he certainly can't complain about not getting enough first team chances. IMO, he's often been made a scapegoat for poor team performances, but I've seen little in his play to excite me the way Sam and Ainscough excite me.
He could do worse than assess what happened to Stanton. He too was constantly being told how wonderful he was, until he finally ended up believing it. Several times we heard how upset he was at not being selected for the first team, and how he was flirting with leavng the club. When he eventually did walk, I wonder who was more surpised that nobody in SL was interested in picking him up - him or those who'd been bending his ear?
For what it's worth, I rated Stanton and still think he could make SL. But he clearly made a mistake cutting out when he did. Is Goulding going to do the same?

| A season long loan is clearly the way to go with Goulding and re-assess after that.

If he's desperate to leave, then there's not a great deal we can do. I'd be surprised if it's true though... why would a local lad quit and give up on his local team?

| I would send him out on loan to a team he would get games for.
We should do this with more players, St Helens will getthe rewards for sending their young players on loan this season.

More than I thought however he played most of his games last year when he had too much bulk on him.
For the team it was important we played Bailey at centre because we were leaking so many tries down the right hand side. I would like to see Goulding come back in at centre again to play with Sam as I think they would score tries for fun. I do think he was harshly dropped as it was Smith who was missing the tackles on one side of him and he had a very unfit Karl Pryce on the other side.

It was more his poor decision making at Hull that concerned me. I don't want him to leave the club on a permanent basis.

That is a lot of games but considering a lot of them were made when he was maybe 19/20 years old it isn't a fair indication imo.
For me he hasn't had a continuous run in the team. He's been in one week playing well then dropped or off form the week after. Did he not have a stormer against Quins at home last season then he hardly played again.
Considering his age it could be argued he’s outplayed more senior players such as King, Yeamen, Senior and Hape.
One year loan at a half decent SL club like Wakey, Hull KR or Quins would do him a world of good IMO. A struggling Salford side would do more harm than good imo.
It’s catch 21 as imo he’s 2 good to let go but he’s not gonna get the game time he needs just yet at Wigan.

| Agreed.
Goulding needs SL experience but not at the cost of Wigan. Loan him out. See how he gets on playing first team rugby week in week out..
Goulding-on loan
Mathers, Coley, Phelps- sell.
Bailey, reduced contract or sell.
Smith.. I need help with this fella! Don't know what's best.

| He isn't good enough. Asking to leave is the cowards way out.
He needs to go on loan and play week in week out and see if he can become a decent centre. Joel Tomkins should be his rolemodel.
He has had more than enough chances to "make it" as Rogues said, 55 games is a decent number, but he still refuses to pass and hasn't got the quality to finish off chances.

Smith is Good cover he is a very good 7 but not 6 which is where we are playing him i would personally keep him until the end of the season and play him in at 7 with sam at 6 and tommy as cover for 9.
And send Micky Mc on loan to Bradford for a few weeks as cover for Godwin would do him a world of good and he would come back as a much better player

How would McIlloram learn more as interchange hooker at Bradford than at Wigan?

He would be learning off Newton and Tez could teach him a lot about the game.
So far he has been learning off Higham and Riddel and Riddel has his work cut out getting himself up to speed i think a spell under Tez would do him a world of good

Sending him to Bradford weakens our team for 1 and as for learning off Newton he knows enough fighting skills already. Riddells decision making and reading of the game is outstanding and learning this off Piggy will make him a miles better player.

| Don't send him to bradford! Played well against Bradford, if anything he needs time to settle into the Wigan team as the interchange hooker.
Basically you've just binned off a young lad who's playing well for an Aussie (Tim Smith) who's been poor.
I don't see the sense in that.

Smith + £££ to Bradford and we'll take Lynch or Burgess then? Bradford are dying on their feet so we might as well get in there and strike whilst we can.
Imagine Burgess, Hock & Feka in our team!!

| Goulding should not be allowed to leave the club except on a loan basis.
If he does go we implement the 28 day rule whereby we can recall him after that period. Also that he doesn't play against us!
I don't care how many games he's played the lad is only just 21.
We need to keep all the quality youngsters we can keep.
Asking to leave Wigan is bad advice or petulance, either way is the wrong way to leave!
