| Why is there so much doom and gloom on these fans forums.
With our recent record of success we are the envy of most other Superleague clubs. What would the Humberside clubs give for anything near our recent achievements:-
1. League leaders (2 out of last 3 years)
2. Semi-final CC (Winners 2011)
3. Semi-final of Play Off (Winners 2010)
4. Man of Steel
5. Top Try Scorer
6. Club of the Year
7. Best Supported Club.
Some fans are writing off our chances already for 2013.
Rubbishing our new half back partnership before they have even seen them play together.
Criticising the lack of signing a big name player.
The sacking of Shaun Wane after his first season as head coach, Yes he has made mistakes but he is still learning the trade.
He may not yet have the tact of Tony Smith but he certainly has the passion. Don't forget Smith has been in the British game a long time Gaining experience at Leeds, Huddersfield, Warrington and Great Britain.
I am sure with the salary cap money saved from our outgoing batch players there is room for one or two more good signing, Maybe an Aussie centre and prop forward.
Lets just wait a couple more weeks to see what pans out.

| No doom and gloom from me.
- I'm happy with the halfbacks. They are both young enough to improve and can do that here at Wigan.
- Taylor will be a superb signing if we pull it off.
- I think one or two others will follow him through the door.
- The nucleus of our side is still in place. Guys like Tomkins, Lockers, Hock, McIlorum etc will keep us driving forward.
- Our youth set up will continue to bear fruit. We have some exceptional juniors ready to push through.
- We have a good coaching staff, brilliant owner and excellent facilities.
All that combined will keep us in there fighting. We are set up for the long term rather then short term unlike some other superleague clubs. There is massive potential for improvement within our squad which I can't Say about everyone else's.
The rising of the NRL cap will snooker a couple of clubs in the coming years but not ours.

Whilst it clearly isn't "All" doom and gloom, apart from the general decline in the standard of RL in this country that is, my comments would be:
1. League leaders (2 out of last 3 years) Irrelevant
2. Semi-final CC (Winners 2011) This year Irrelevant
3. Semi-final of Play Off (Winners 2010) Irrelevant
4. Man of Steel Irrelevant
5. Top Try Scorer Irrelevant
6. Club of the Year ?????????
7. Best Supported Club. Relatively unimportant

At the risk of being branded a troll I think you're clutching at straws with some of those. Is a club like wigan really supposed to be squawking about semi final appearences? Come on.
Wane has failed to deliver to expectations in his first season, if you don't make the grand final next season i think he'll be on his way (unless there is CC success).

| RL in general is deffo on the decline. The simple fact is that there is very little intensity in the weekly rounds due to the current format. That's all on another thread though.
As for Wigan, some doom and gloom but not all. I'll reserve judgement until we see who comes in. We need reinforcements but have a solid base to build upon.

I don't agree. The way some people write on here its almost a case of we'll never be happy and Wane will never be any good unless we win everything. Those days are gone. Our season was not poor and we were a worms tooth away from wembley and the GF as well as finishing top!
We can improve on last season but not by much!

| tbh, isnt the doom and gloom more about the apparent head long charge into oblivion that the RFL appear to be planning (revamped junior setup, mismanagement of expansion clubs, poor implementation of financial regs, failure to appoint a decent international coach, failing to stop best players being poached by year-on-year reduction in net value of SC, increasing number of pointless fixtures due to top 8, increasingly poor standard of ref's, etc etc)
its just difficult to be positive when surrounded by such mediocrity (both in players, coaches and administrators)

That's because they are idiots.
Our 2012 side was playing nowhere near as well as the 2010 side and we only lost to the Whinos by a single point in the semi-final. The quality of SL has really dropped off in the last few years.

Don't want to speak for somebody else but I reckon he means that its irrelevant because we didn't win the grand final and didn't win the challenge cup.
When u strip a season back, they are the main objectives.

| 6 or 7 years ago i think 99% of fans would settle for what we've achieved in the last 3.
we are getting greedy......most other clubs fans can only dream about the success we.ve had lately

| Doom and gloom, mi jobs hanging by a thread, we’ve got a Tory government, the baby’s just chucked up on the new living room carpet, the cat has shat on the duvet, and her indoors has just said “has that damp patch on the ceiling always been there?” and SL is going to pot. No, no doom and gloom here!

| It might not have been the end of season we all hoped for but it has been a successful year. All the achievements have been mentioned and if we need to be reminded how bad it can get just think back to 2006.
No comparison between that season and this.
IL bought the club just prior to the 2008 season, so this is his 5th season.
Look at the state of the club on and off the field since he took over compared to the five and ten year periods prior to him buying the club.
The last two or three years Wigan RL has been winning trophies and making a financial profit.
So how many sporting clubs are doing that?
Is the club successful? You bet!

The club, by it's own definition needs to make a final and win a trophy to be successful. Therefore, by not making a final this season has been unsuccessful and there needs to be an inquest. The fans should not tolerate this type of failure. You need to get the attitude of a James Bond baddie. They never tolerate failure.

Father Ted.
100% agree with what you are saying, since IL took over, the Club has progressed on the field and what is more important off the field.
The 'Central Park' set up is proving to be a benefit to the Town as well as the Club in other areas as well as Rugby League.
Success on the field every year may be nice ,but it cannot be demanded in this day and age.

| We're heading in the right direction off the field (ie - we're making a profit, we're under the cap, we have a bright future)
We're heading in the right direction in terms of youth development
We have the right mix of youth and experience across the side
Stop panicing. If this side stays fit and fresh (something we've struggled to do for 2 years) then there won't be many sides will beat us
Tomkins
Charnley
Goulding
Thornley
Richards
Green
Smith
Prescott
McIlorum
Mossop
Hock
Hansen
O'Loughlin
Farrell
Tuson
Flower
Dudson
Add to that Hughes, Lauaki, Gelling, Powell, Tomkins, Murphy, Crosby, Spencer and Lloyd who all had game time this year. We'll be more than fine.
