Quote ="Barnesy"I work in design and I can tell you what this is about and why a conventional kit won't be offered in conjunction with the experimental.
Whilst you may argue the subjective worth of any design (experimental or otherwise) and you might argue that the design is not good. What you can't argue is that they have done their research, it will be copper bottom. The theory is this:
Yr1 - Traditional Home kit - the reaction of customers is "Thank christ we've got a traditional kit, we'll buy shed loads"
Yr2 - Traditional Home kit - the reaction of customers is "Meh, almost like last year, we'll buy a few"
Yr3 - Experimental Home kit - the reaction of customers is "Wow, that's different we'll buy almost a shed load" even the fans who don't like it will buy it anyway, aside from the fans who REALLY don't like it, who will be about 10%
And repeat until bankruptcy... Be thankful we don't have it on a two year repeat.
Sound design thinking, sometimes unsound design realisation, I like the new kit.'"
This is more about a marketing strategy than anything to do with design. I have never noticed any other sporting club do this with such a dramatic change to the home strips.
