The funniest fiasco involving Leigh had to be the one involving NZ halfback Shane Varley - pretty sure that was his name.
He arrived at Manchester Airport to sign for Wigan, was met instead by Leigh, who craftily convinced him to sign for them as, according to them, they were going places and Wigan weren't.
If memory serves, this was some time around 1984 / 85 - Wigan were on the cusp of a golden age, and Leigh were about to get flushed down a lavatory of dismal failure, from which even now they haven't emerged.
Wigan, pipped at the post for their new signing, were forced to promote a young but promising schoolboy called Shaun Edwards. Varley, who had a glowing future when he set out that morning, was never heard of again.
Quote="Alex BP'"It could be worse.
Your club could claim to have signed somebody only for the player to have no idea.

Leigh might have messed up alright but they're nothing compared to HullFC.
They are still banning BBC Radio Humberside from the KC following them breaking the Paul Cooke story. The station was accurate in all respects re the story but Hull's reaction was the classic "Shoot the Messenger".
Their CEO resigned after this cock up and was replaced by James Rule whom I've heard is the prospective son in law of the Hetheringtons.
Feel sorry for the Hull fans they deserve a lot better than the shower running HullFC.
