Dennis Moran is still working as a part time coach in 'Straya. The PR as well as draw to old fans of such an iconic player returning for a year to help Eccles would be worth the bump in returning fans v cost.....other than Wigan, London and Widnes fans KNOW what a class act he was on the park.......

Still a few free agents out there that might be worth a look and can do a job at SL level. I liked Lovodua at FC. Never felt like they made the best use of him and ended up playing in every position accept his strongest for most of his time there. On the other site suggestion that Albert was last year’ s best paid player. Also that Hughes wasn’t overly happy with performances. I can see the latter certainly earlier in the season but the former must surely be a scurrilous rumour. He came from a L1 side if I recall. If true may explain why a few senior players perhaps holding out for a wage increase. One assumes Kennedy has come in for Albert.

I won't be disappointed to see Albert go. To many loose carries and poor off-loading decisions.

Whilst I assume he would've been on a decent contract as an overseas and current international, I would be surprised if he had been our top earner, especially given he was essentially an interchange forward. Must have a cracking agent if true and maybe that's why Hughes was down on him.

As you say I thought his form to begin the season was decidedly average, but he did seem to pick up towards the back end. A lovely guy to speak with, but when Mike announced the 9 or so that were leaving, he was one of the first that came to mind.

Waine staying. Thought he might be one to go as well. Definitely made an impact in the games he played. We’ll see how he goes in SL.
Would like now though to hear about some experienced SL recruits. As is, all the retainees will do a job for us and will only get better as they have been teammates for quite a bit now and most of the new recruits know the club so should be good team cohesion BUT even so we are light on SL recruits and recreating the squad that finished 5th in the Championship is quite a gamble.

I wonder if we’ll retain any of the most recent crop of Academy step ups? Hoyes did well and I also wonder if any of the younger age group will stay. Harry Stevens stepped up so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them recruit him although where game time will come from who knows.

Is it seven non British trained players in the Super League? Five used so far? Natoli, Basset, Kennedy, Waine and Parata. Ulberg gone. Albert gone I believe. I expect Raiwalui will leave also. So we could retain Norman and Whare to reach the seven. I guess the latter is the more likely to stay.

Looking at the signings we could actually field a team with everybody in their correct position I believe.

Whare and Norman are obvious "missing parts" in that backs line-up.

So 19 signed (plus any I've missed). Certainly two non-Brits to come. How many more might be in the squad? I did see last season that Leigh got a mention for starting the season with one of the smaller squads. It contained 27, so London remain well short currently.

12 players from 2023 squad still not announced one way or the other. 4 overseas, 5 kids, 2 fringe players and Dalton Grant. I’d prioritise Norman then Whare but all could do a job depending on whether upgrades are available and having a mind to the need to try and have a production line of young London based players. I’d assumed Ranalui and Albert might go and that Howarth having not played during his contract was vulnerable. Horsman and Davies have pluses and minuses but it must be a concern that for all the high hopes (it felt like our 2022 strategy was built on Oli L and Horsman being world beaters) Horsman has only played a handful of games over each of the last 3 seasons. Grant is the phaser. He’s clearly a popular guy and his performances have been good following a sluggish start but if we are to be competitive in SL how many good at Championship level players can we have. Be interesting to see what we do but these things are never easy and for London based players who aren’t re-signed there is no easy plan B.
