| Quote ="Londo06"I want our own home, but we shouldn't be the desperate middle-aged woman who jumps on a man when he shows her the slightest bit of attention, we should do it for the right reasons and those are when it is feasible behinds the scenes and when we can afford to do it without impacting our limited resources. We don't want to go down the road of Oxfords Kassam Stadium or Valencia's half-built stadium when money runs dry.
I am totally supportive of any preparitive research, either for a purpose-built stadium of our own or potential new stadiums as our lease at the Stoop ends at the end of the 2013 season and Harlequin F.C. may decide they do not need us (cut your nose to spite your face maybe but old in their ways union types are as bad as old in their way league types) and we may need to find somewhere that can accomodate our needs.
In the medium-term I am happy to stay at the Stoop, the atmosphere seems so much more positive being just a few feet closer to the action, and as others have stated it does offer a quality match-day experience. I'm not afraid to look beyond the Stoop, happy to stay there for now, but we must be proactive in looking after ourselves because our landlord may kick as out in a few years and it isn't like we can kip on a mates sofa for a few weeks.'"
I fully agree with you, I have no doubts that it will not happen overnight to get a ground of our own or shared ownership, but lets not forget all St Helens have put into their new ground is the sale of Knowsley Road which which was around £9 million, the rest came from Council and North West Development monies as well as Sports Council. Note the Salford ground is not much dearer and that is in the heart of Manchester in which land prices are not cheap.
Yes I like the old lady comparison! but how about my Loving late Parents! they never owned an house of their own because Dad would never have debt! everything we had we had to pay cash for, but then came along their youngest son who bought his first car a few days after he passed with the help of a £2,000 bank loan and my own savings, I have never seen my Dad so upset, sadly they never lived to see me own my own new property and have no debt, all now paid for, times have changed!
What Quins RU may do in the future when our current contract runs out must be a concern, they could double the rent! I have always side I was in full agreement with using the name as I thought we would gain so much benefit, but now I will also admit I was completely wrong we gained nothing in fact it has knocked us back.

I can only assume lack of money and need for expediency are the deciding factors here - the club need answers quickly and survey monkey is quick and easy to use (I'm told)

The survey looks fairly straightforward, but posting the link on here makes it accessible to supporters of other clubs whose comments shouldn't be taken into account. It might have been better to email the link to everyone on the club's mailing list (and yes I know that will still include some supporters of other clubs).
I'm not at all excited or enthused by the prospect of another name change. In fact I feel pretty disillusioned by it as it feels like we're going around in circles and can't be bothered to make anything work properly if it's ever going to work at all, especially if it means reverting to the failed and annoyingly American sounding "London Broncos". I won't stop going to matches altogether, but I certainly won't renew my season ticket until I've seen some evidence that it's going to make a positive difference.
Back in 2005 I felt we should have become "London Harlequins", but at least being Harlequins and playing at The Stoop makes it feel more like playing at a ground of our own. Playing there under any other name will just make it feel like we're squatters again, playing in a ground with someone else's branding and colours. I can't think of another stadium as well suited for our purposes, unless it's a completely new or substantially redeveloped one, which looks like pie in the sky at this stage.
As for some of the better sounding suggestions for a new name: London Ravens has already been used by an American football team, which I think no longer exists; London Lions was an ice hockey club, and is currently in use by a non league football club playing in the South Midlands League. They may be a lot smaller than us but there could be legal complications, and they already have the web address www.londonlions.com

I agree with you the survey could or should have been targeted better, as I have said earlier on in this thread the link to the survey has been placed on a Super League Fans Group on facebook and the replies were so typical, they only have one fan, call them Halifax they are a real team and they go on, so the kiddies will reply and mock, you can't go off post codes as so many of us do live outside of the area.
Names I never liked Crusaders and even more so the logo, so many at the time asked me were we owned by The Daily Express! but gladly I did not say I would stop supporting! regards the Broncos name, why does everyone keep saying it is an American name, we got it from then from the owners who were from Brisbane Broncos, those in the North are not too good with change but they have taken to Bradford Bulls and few ever mention Bradford Northern these days. If we had been called London Harlequins I would have still said we need to change the name urgently as it is not worked! we are not part of Harlequins and I don't now want us to be, I was one that thought the name would work and we would gain many benefits for me it has been NIL and in fact it has damaged us and will continue to do so.

| I went for staying at the Stoop for the meantime. As cant see where we would or could get the money for a new ground/stadium even if in partnership with another sporting team..i.e football or rugby.
names i went for were London Titans, London Broncos and London Storm.
Only reason went for Storm as couldnt think of anything else and also being silly just thought as Melboune Storm play outside the heartlands in Aus then why not use the same name, and get the club to try get a tie up with them like Leeds/Rabbitohs.

I did Ravens like others, did both Richmond and London Ravens. Also Thames Harlequins. And best of all, London Weezers! (Really hope that wins!)
I mainly stated that I think we should stay as Harlequins, simply because we haven't given it a chance and there are more important things to address.

That's what I feared would happen. It should be just for Quins fans and, particularly, season ticket holders.

Because 'Bronco' is term for a wild stallion in New Mexico/California.
Your statement also discourages the idea of 'Broncos' being our own identity too.

A sporting club that has changed names 3 times before, to no discernable advantage, and locations god knows how many times, with the latter certainly having had a massive negative impact over the 30 year history. So the ideas to move forwards from the current sticky spot are....?

No! I always liked the name Broncos and the playing strip, but I though the change was for the best when we joined up with Harlequins RU, but it has Not! and I know now it Never will be, so return to the name or London Ravens!
Famous brands often change their names and for a few minutes you will get the few who will whine! but then it is soon forgotten and The Majority! accept change, those in the North that feel we are a joke and some here give them plenty to feed off, League Express should have a field day next week will Never like us as they are far too Parochial and small minded.

For crying out loud! It's not about the 2,000 fans who regularly follow the club already, it's about getting thousands more on board. (And you've done your share of "whining" on here about other people's suggestions you don't like.)
At the recent HKA game I was poised to note down the team line ups when, just as our team was being announced, the PA was drowned out by half a dozen or so people a few rows behind me discordantly chanting "Broncos, Broncos". Very helpful - Not! So everyone else in the vicinity had to wait until the match got underway and work out the teams for themsleves. Assuming of course they were regulars; in the remote event that a few newcomers unfamiliar with our players were present they wouldn't have stood a chance. Great first time "matchday experience"! Even though we lost 0-34 a fair minority of people around me almost seemed to be creaming their underwear over the possiblity of travelling back in time to once more become London Broncos. I found this both extraordinary and depressing. A masterclass in flatcappery that would put any former mining or mill town club to shame.
There are people on here who seem to want to preserve "London RL in Superleague" as some sort of minority sport for a fanatical elite. Those of us who express an interest in other sports are ridiculed, especially if they sometimes miss a home game because they're watching football, cricket, speedway etc. (As if Leeds or Wigan is packed out every week with ever-presents who never miss a game come what may - they just have more of them, and more fairweather fans too.) I often feel some of us would rather revert to being an underdog club punching above its weight and scraping into the play-offs once every three or four years, and would rather supporters less fanatical than themselves stayed away altogether - except there's no sustainable future in that, and instead of punching above our weight we now find ourselves as an underdog club in the sort of position you can reasonably expect an underdog to be when everyone else has bigger crowds and greater resources.
We're in the biggest conurbation in the country, we're potentially the biggest and best club in rugby league, but in order to achieve that we need to bring loads of new supporters on board, who, for at least a few years, will have little understanding of and appreciation of the finer points of the sport and its history and traditions. So what? It's a bit like county cricket clubs launching Twenty20 a decade ago and filling their grounds with people who, until recently, never seriously considered watching the sport live, except that we're the only club in the league trying to do that.
To be perfectly honest I don't really care what the club is called, where it plays within Greater London, or what colours the shirts are as long as it moves forward. But I can't see us in a situation in 5-10 years time where we're playing in front of 10,000+ every week purely because we've reverted to being London Broncos, playing in a nondescript red shirt, squatting at a crappy lower division Football League ground. Any progress made could still have been made under the Harlequins name at The Stoop.

| If supporters come to the ground and don't recognize the players and can't read their names then they need to just buy a programme or not worry about it.
13 home games in 12 months is not exactly a massive commitment either.

I supported the change to Harlequins RL and the move back to The Stoop! it is your opinion that we can build on the failure this association has been, well now I know accept and it seems the club do, we got it wrong! that is not whining! it is just a different opinion, I don't attack you or anyone else for have a different opinion. Who mentioned moving to a lower division football league ground just for the sake of it, any move has to be completely right and not a knee jerk decision, but in my personal opinion we have to lose the Harlequins ident completely, there is no other option, I will take London and any other moniker except Harlequins or Quins! the comment about the non descript red shirt?? I am not really bothered what colours we play in, except Not Harlequins colours
Yes people here over 25 years have wanted Our Club to be Elite, I have seen so many supporters driven away who were loyal but they were attacked and just got sick of it, they will Never do it to me. If we let these people win then it is the end of our club in London, it is pointless going into the championship Skolars and their 300 fans is no advertisement, though some northern legend name clubs get little more attending.
We have been asked to give our opinions I am sure most of us have now done so, the final decision must be with David Hughes and I will accept whatever he with those around him decide, no silly threats to throw away my ball and not support the club! we have come through some rough times and we can do it again.

| I see the News of the World maybe changing its name to the Sun on Sunday!
What's in a name change? It doesn't change anything...............

| heres my 2d worth, if it's worth that much.......................
1. We stay Harlequins RL.
2. We stay at The Stoop.
3. New regime pursue policy of gaining a 50/50 ownership of the Stoop with HFC. From all accounts they could do with the money.
4. Engage with the 2m or so people who live in the surrounding areas as prospective new customers.

If you think that will make him disgusted, then you better fetch a bucket, coz I agree 100% with HKB.

Yes; an inspiration. Worked for Canberra.
Still no idea on the name though, other than London Somethings. (Wanderers or Rovers would be accurate but don't see them working. Though, come to think of it, now that HKR have become HKA, maybe we should become the new Rovers?)
