| Not sure how many Dewsbury brought, but Fev Batley etc brought aa few, play on a fri and those few are never coming.
Not sure why any broncos fan would prefer Toronto game over broncos.
Sat was a one off, stick to Sunday I reckon

| Quote ="northernbloke"As for Tyrell’s and 2000 it was a final! And women’s rugby union (and league on a smaller scale) is getting a fair bit of press.'"
Making excuses for getting fewer to a club with "record ST holder numbers" according to some, than who watched a womens RU match is pointless. We are laying in a bed made by the owner.....there is no excuse for it.
Quote ="Halfdan of t'wide embrace"It seems we can even get people to watch us for free which is a pretty terrible place to be and not exactly likely to encourage David to believe it's worth continually hurling money at us.'"
David Hughes doesn't care about attendances. If we average 1,000 over 15 or 14 games in the season at £20 a ticket then it's £300,000 a year tops......he was throwing £2,000,000 a year at us in SL and we had (when he took over) close to 4 and a half times that number and he sat back and "fiddled as Rome burnt"......he is at the club now because he feels responsible for setting the club and the game in the capitals conscience back decades.
My stance on his attitude to marketing is not a mystery.....what is a mystery is why the club felt the need to leaflet drop surrounding boroughs with free ticket offers for the visit of Dewsbury on a day when there was another "event' style game of RL in the same town.....well meaning but inept and badly planned marketing is as much use as a chocolate teapot.
If that gate was 400 as some have said, thenthat is shocking. We are sat in 4th in charge of our own destiny and with Catalans truly awful and Salford suspected to be in financial strife each week, there's a real chance of more than one Ch club going up......

| I wouldn't be so sure. It has previously been confirmed David agreed to a previous extension on the grounds his input reduced year on year. He'll have a limit somewhere and any signs his input may need to rise at at time when the ground share is fast running down - an obvious time to review future plans - isn't great.
The cash take must have been awful. I bet most of the small number of fans were season ticket holders. Some of the others came in on a free offer so how many actually paid?
What other income sources were there? Programme sales, hardly any. Proggie sales have collapsed generally across sport and I hardly saw anyone reading one. The club shop? Ticks over but won't take a fortune mid-season. 50:50, from memory the prize was 30 quid odd so presumably that's what the club got post tax. The gate and club shop money is also subject to VAT of course.
At the end of last season it was very clear Oxford were not taking enough money on match days to pay the rent never mind the players. I hope London didn't slip into that position in Saturday as that would really focus minds. Just ask the Oxford owners......

| Here we go again! So the club don’t market a game, it’s wrong. They market a game it’s wrong.
Event style game of rugby league on in london where? Toronto put up a beer tent and gave away a load of free tickets hardly an event, apparently the poor crowd for them was the broncos game, the weather and london men’s league (which hasn’t actually started) otherwise apparently they would have had a 1000 more there.
As for DH You can’t change it dog, so why whinge about it? We all know, the club needs investment, but at mo DH is all we have.

Nope. Getting a "then" sponsor to offer reduced price beers, contribute towards the reduced entry fee and pay for half the print advertising is Marketing. Dropping free ticket offers to random households with no targeting isn't!

He is the thing that is killing us........but now he's doing it on a budget so we have an average side and lower than average crowds....the Landlord isn't so stupid and if we don't step up we'll be homeless again soon.....

| Not sure why 2 games of rugby league in London on the same day was bad planning? One game didn’t even involve a london based team, but hey we should be in super league with SL crowds. Think what it did show was Toronto playing a home game against a northern club would have been better supported had the away fans bot had to travel 200miles.
As for leaflet dropping dog didn’t you take part in leaflet dropping at Brentford?
DH is killing broncos or he is keeping em alive, it’s a matter of opinion.

Indeed I did....it was confined to within a 5 minute walk of the ground and it delivered results.
FROM THE BRONCOS FACEBOOK PAGE.....

Twickenham, Chiswick, Richmond, Sheen, Hampton are ALL 2 bus rides away.......Brentford is 1. All very applaudable (sic) but utterly useless in terms of announcing that up to 40 minutes travel away a club from Dewsbury will be playing an alien sport.......
....compared to "walk for 5 minutes and come and see what the fuss is about.
It was a badly thought out marketing strategy that delivered what could possibly have been our lowest gate since relegation........but you defend them anyway

Your upset because the didn’t put ‘s, that will have put loads off from coming.
Your suggestion is that the club only market within 5 mins walk then? Interesting

Griffin Park was the only ground that we left with more fans than we arrived with.......we had teams Like WIGAN to promote........fast forward to the wedding venue that Hughes LIED COULD BE REDEVELOPED because he knew it wouldn't need to be and I'll lay odds that we got those flyers printed and dropped on a bartercard deal.........an utter waste of time
As for the spelling. This is marketing.......I get 3 people to proof read my campaigns......my clients expect it and if we make an error it's free.......maybe we can get a rebate on those bartercard pounds we spent........because it wasn't Hughes's cash that paid for them!
As for 5 Minutes walk......I own a flat 5 minutes away......nothing in the letterbox at all......not a friggin' thing and that's where the new fans will come from, but sheen

| There didn't appear to be any data capture on either the flyer I saw in a shop or when the people in front of me entered the ground using a flyer.
I appreciate the imminent GDPR makes this harder than before - though far from impossible - however a random drop with no capture to permit targeted follow up seems of limited value sadly.

| Targeted follow up with new regulations is not going to be allowed without specific permission.
Contrary to some suggestions though the leaflet drop did get some bodies through the gate!

| Correct hence the mention of GDPR in my post. However it isn't banned if you obtain the right permission.
I don't recall anyone saying no-,one used the offer. Two.of us have reported it being used in this thread. However the poor gate and the massive geographic area the club stated suggests that the take up rate was appalling. Unfortunately we now seem to have no idea who the people who used it were and no way of reaching out for feedback / a reduced price offer to tempt them back again.
Oxford did a massive untargetted offer via a magazine through doors near Iffley Road in season two. It was never repeated which tells you something.
Dulwich Hamlet have massively increased their crowds partially through targeted offers. Their Chairman is a Broncos season ticket holder, their Community Relations Officer attends some Broncos games. To the best of my knowledge an offer to meet Broncos and advise them was never replied to.
Clearly the club had nothing to.learn from them....

| Halfdan, didn’t say no one used the offer, just indicating to those who said it was a pointless exercise that it was used!
As for reaching out to fans, if those that came on the leaflet enjoyed the experience why would they not come back?
There seems to be an obsession that any new fans are going to come from the streets surrounding the ground.

Better shut the doors then. A few seasons ago, when Broncos averaged a few thousand, Dulwich averaged 170. On Saturday they attracted 1,266 to a game with nothing on it played, about ten miles from the their home ground as they have been evicted, at level 7 of football.
We haven't sunk to their level, we have sunk well beyond it which is why several Broncos season ticket holders were in Tooting watching that game. I was the only one of the Hamlet fans who watch Broncos in Ealing.

1. It was pointless. It was badly thought out with little follow up strategy is any at all. As for data collection, if you expressly ask for permission then you can contact people....given the total attendance has been put at 400, I would think that if every single one of those people had been newbies, then it would take the club and 2 employees a week to canvas opinion......
2. Proctor and Gamble refer to people who have bought their products fewer than 7 times as consumers, but once you have bought something 7 or more times you are a customer. What the club did was try to attract consumers with no afterthought of how to make them customers. Pointless
3. Not sure how I can repeat myself any more and be ignored......BRENTFORD was the only ground where we grew our fan-base.
Twickeham is 30 minutes by car from Trailfinders, 40 by Public Transport. Given the demographic of that particular place had been our home for 8 years, targeting it does seem very odd. As for the streets surrounding the ground, that's exactly where I came from 2002.......I had never been to a Brentford FC game since moving there 5 years prior, but an invite, followed by regular flyers, emails and other activities kept me coming back....the club moved to Twickenham and I carried to going to games and I even organised a couple of away days with full coaches..... I timed my trip back to the UK in 2014 to coincide with our last ever SL game....I think P&G would classify me as a customer, although the email address I gave the club back then hasn't received anything from the club in years.....but you carry on defending the indefensible......
And before you say it. They are not damned if they do, damned if they don't, they are just damned incompetent!

16,000 people per Square Mile is the population density of Ealing.....a rough line drawn from Ruislip Rd East, down argyle road, along the A4020 and then back up Greenford road is probably a shade over that, but let's call it a an area populated by 16,000 people who could walk to the ground in 10 minutes.....situated in this area is Drayton Manor School (1,600 pupils), Brentside School (1,500) and just on the fringes we have Notting Hill & Ealing High School (900). There are also a number of community and special needs schools in this catchment area.
I would recommend to anyone trying to attract new consumers to their offering, that dropping leaflets to the 4,000/5,000 houses in this area, as well as incentivising the local schools (who will all be running fundraising activities) to help promote us would far more beneficial than a random leaflet drop in far away boroughs!
I would suggest that most fans of RL clubs other than ourselves are drawn from an area of no more than 3 miles away from their club.....Ealing isn't that dissimilar to Wakefield in terms of Population and I'd pretty much wager heavily on most fans of Wakey being a short distance from the ground.....maybe bigger Clubs like Leeds might stretch a bit further afield, but RL is a community sport and at present, our Community is Ealing Borough and specifically Hanwell, Greenford, Drayton Green and Perivale....that's where we should be concentrating, not Sheen

| Dog, the difference between wakey and Ealing is history, how long have wakey been running, a lot of the fans are second third generation.
Moving into an area such as Brentford twickenham Ealing with a minority sport and then suddenly expecting that community to adopt that sport just because they can walk to it is just daft.
Of the schools you mention do any play rugby league?
Look at our current fan base and geographic spread!
And our community is Greater London not just Ealing borough
