I thought Melling looked decent at SR last week. I castigated McDermott at the time for trying to move him there - maybe it's worth sticking with after all?

| London Broncos coach Rob Powell admits the pressure is building on his new-look team to perform after an indifferent start to the season.
The capital club began the year amid renewed optimism following their rebranding and an influx of overseas talent but they remain joint bottom of the Stobart Super League with just one win from their first eight matches.
Powell was particularly disappointed with last week's loss to fellow strugglers Widnes, for which he is expecting his players to atone when they meet Wakefield at the Twickenham Stoop on Saturday evening.
"We owe the fans, the owner and ourselves a good performance after last week and I know the boys are looking to make amends," he said.
"Clearly performances like last week when you are playing poorly and losing adds to the pressure on the team. We have got to start picking up some points."
After scoring 102 points in their last three matches, Powell is happy enough with his side's attacking prowess but concedes they have a major problem in defence and is hoping to be given time to turn it around.
"That's out of my control but what I would say is that there are enough good signs," he said.
"We are going well enough offensively to suggest we're not a complete rabble. We're just not defending well, there's not enough energy in our defence.
"We've got some cohesion - we're scoring points for fun - so it's not all doom and gloom.
"If we were losing 40-0 every week, I would probably say there are serious issues here.
"We need to be better and I'm expecting a good response. I know they'll have a real good go because they were embarrassed last week."
The Broncos are boosted by the return from injury of high-profile imports Shane Rodney and Michael Robertson while Wakefield will give a debut to centre Paul Sykes, a former Harlequins player who has joined them on loan from Bradford.
The Wildcats are on a resurgence following their narrow loss to leaders Warrington and last week's victory over high-flying Catalan Dragons, but coach Richard Agar is wary of their struggling opponents.
"We've had a little bit of momentum over three or four weeks even though we've not had the two points to show for it," he said.
"This week brings along different challenges for a new group of people. It's the first time we've played someone below us in the competition."

Oops, but I don't suppose the coach and players like to look at the table.

Absolutely astounded that a super league coach can make a statement like that. I think that statement alone should see him shown the door and I was one of those people that believed he should be given some time, but I think he has had plenty now and just does not have the ability.
I think what concerns me most is that players are becoming worse under him rather than improving or even just holding their own. Players like Bailey, Dorn Randall, Howell, JOC and others like them have at some stage been either super league standard players (certainly not saying top of the tree) or players with potential, but under Powell they have dropped way below that standard. It worries me what will happen with players like Dixon and Sarginson with a bit more time under Powell. Currently I think its their natural ability that responsible for their good form but I fear that Powell will find a way to coach that out of them.
I am not absolving the players of blame for the poor start to the season but Powell must have a big part to play. If you look at Bellamy for the Storm they have constantly brought in average or ageing players and Bellamy has been able to get them up to the level to win premierships.
A coach has to be able to get the best out of players, not the worst which is certainly the case. DH needs to find someone who can do that.....now.
That said (and I have no idea why) but I think we will win well against Wakey.

| That said Windy we have won only one game against the team that was bottom until last night when we replaced them!! At least we can now say we have beaten a team that is above us, to put a positive spin on it!!

| Saints should have won. Hudds should have lost by one score only. Play like that today we should win by 12.

| Some people are now so one-eyed they're deliberately misreading words to fit their own agenda.
Here's the question/statement :
Quote Powell is happy enough with his side's attacking prowess but concedes they have a major problem in defence and is hoping to be given time to turn it around.'"
So he's being asked to comment on whether he'll be given time to turn aorund the team - ie, be sacked.
Quote "That's out of my control but what I would say is that there are enough good signs," he said.'"
He responds by saying that whether he is sacked or not is out of his control, but he thinks there's sufficient positives to justify his continuance.
He doesn't say that the defence is out of his control. His continued employment is.
That wasn't hard to understand.
