| London Chimera.
I'm getting the feeling that fans who have seen more than one move, see another move or name change as a very poor option, whereas fans who have only gone from Broncos to Quins or have only known Harlequins see change as a good move.

Change, if it happens, need to be for the right reasons.
I really believed the hype when we moved 3 miles from Brentford to the stoop and I still say that if IL hadn't bought Wigan this thread wouldn't be needed.
As it is, we moved to the stoop and for a number of reasons including Pail Browns illness, IL to Wigan etc...the opportunity was missed. What was needed was a big, well planned and executed campaign across the borough and surrounding areas.......wehat we got was nothing at all.
My concern this time is that if the club move again and change their name...then it has to be backed by massive investment in Marketing and Promotion. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that if there wasn't a minimum of 500k available to market a "new" club in a new area then don't bother.

| If there was half a million available I would hope it would be used to improve the squad, then the team can sell itself
I think this thread is a more lighthearted one just about a new name rather than a doomsday prediction of the franchise, so no harm in suggesting new names.
Thanks for clearing up about the broncos name, though I guess if we ever want that name back we have to plead with the Denver NFL team

| I think this is about my second post on this site but I’m joining in now!
For the love God!!! The constant quins/ stoop bashing that goes on, on our own site is ridiculous! I can’t take seriously anyone that believes the main problem with rugby league in the capital is its quins/ stoop brand!
The whole quins debate is red herring and it may be nice that we now can blame that dastardly union lot for ruining RL in the capital. But this really does miss the point (and I maybe wrong) but every version RL in the capital has ended up broke! Marketing by the club may not have always been the best (frankly shocking) but (and readying the tin hat) but do the powers that be need to look at the game Rugby league?
The Game suffers from a terrible image problem. Having not been to game until 10 years ago I shocked when I actually went to game with the speed and the skill. I personally think to people that don’t understand the game, it does not look go on telly, if one bloke runs into 3 or 4 blokes he’s not going to get passed. And to many stereotypical northern men bickering with each other rather than explaining the game.
As the game continues to fail to sell itself, cricket (20/20) has somehow managed to gain the fast and furies summer sport market those at the centre of the game should be totally embarrassed!
TIN HAT!!!!

I believe a great many people believe we are the rugby league playing arm of Harlequins rugby union. I believe there were initial reservations about cohabiting with outwardly the most rah-rah taint to it, but fans seem to have got over that now. The four quarters are worn with pride, and the issue would be same were we to have joined with Arsenal at Highbury and called ourselves Arsenal RL. We would have been associated with a strong brand name, but to all but the few in the know we would be considered a part of the larger organisation, not our own company.

| I can't agree with you here. The problem is that with the exception of the first season and a half the club's guise as Fulham RL, our top division crowds have always tended to sit somewhere between 3 and 4,500. On occasions when we have had crowds above this, it has been very short lived. We have spent time in the top division of the came known as Fulham, London Broncos and Harlequins RL. If our crowds were no better when we were called London Broncos, then the real problem cannot be simply because we are "the rugby league playing arm of Harlequins RU."

It isn't the route cause, but it does not help with the perception that we are not separate from the union team. The second perception is that we play to poor crowds and the team itself is poor because it is a northern game. This is a commonly held view among people who enjoy sports and have no hostility towards the game, but Harlequins RL are recognised as weak, and who wants to go to see something that is regarded as weak.
Changing that perception is easy in theory, hard in that it takes cash to improve the squad, cash that is not available at this time. A truly competitive club who can honestly go into a season realistically challenging for play-off football will see crowds increase, not necessarily surge, but rise to previous levels.
Perception is the reason we are not attracting sports fans and the reason we have not retained fans who come to the bigger games is that we have had increasingly weaker squads mixed with no direction in the back office.

| Agreed to an extent re perception. However I think that whatever name we have, the perception will not change until we have a concerted and seriously co-ordinated marketing campaign, and extra investment to get a marquee player or two to spearhead that marketing. Without either of those two things changing our name would be a complete waste of time.
