| Get someone famous that appeals to the mass morons that read the cheap magazines that these said famous people always appear in. Someone like Beckham, Jordan, Simon Cowell, Peter Andre, Piers Morgan, Jeremy Clarkson etc etc to either plug the club or be seen at an event where they are wearing a Quins top, that will increase your fan base by millions overnight, granted they'll all be thoughtless clapping seals who follow all the trends because they are brain dead sheep who can't talk 'propa', but hey you have Gutterfax, so you're not worried about the quality of fan just the numbers.

| Having read what has been published in the press and posted on here over the past few days, I can't help but think there are too many people stuck on unimportant things.
The whole point of this thread was to discuss if Quins was going to fail as an organisation. A lot of what I see is mud throwing between people in regards to weather or nor the RFL has give hand outs, what will happen with sky. I think these issues will fall hand in hand, if a SL club goes to the wall, with all the safe guards in place to help this not happen, then our sport has become tainted.
I live and work in London, I am one of the 1,000,000 fans the RFL told Quins marketing that live in London. Do I attend games? No, before the boo's start I'll explain this. As a huge RL fan I feel duty bound to spread the gospel far and wide, to this extent I have been involved in a number of different grass-roots projects all over the capital. This is what stopped me attending games. Quins pick a 3pm Saturday afternoon kick-off. Fine for RL fans/amateur players in west London/north Surrey, but rubbish for anyone in any other part of London who, to be fair the best chance of a fan base, are involved with amateur RL. I can not see the logic in this, why would a club push away there best chance of a fan base?
This is why 2, maybe 3, years ago when the club gave out free season tickets to every player and coach in the amateur game down here failed and no body turned up. As they were to busy getting involved with playing the sport.
On top of this, living in the city centr,e the Stoop isn't the best place to get too. 90 mins to travel 18 miles, if the public transport is running a full service. I can be in Manchester in that time if I got a train from Euston. As most people commute during the week, they don't want the same on a weekend.
Another big issue the Quins have is that everyone thinks a rugby union club, well because it is. That's not my point, there is very few people are aware that there are two different clubs share a name and, to some extent, sharing a ground. Is this because the marketing team are hoping to piggy back of the RU clubs name? Well the games up 4 year and only backwards steps. There is nothing wrong sharing the same name, but there must be a big push to spread the word into the city.
Having a conversion with a London base weekly free publication, I asked him why there was so little coverage of RL, his answer "the man in the street doesn't care, they want to read about footballers, golfers, ect". Maybe so, but in a city of 6,000,000ish, I don't know the true number, sorry it's not in my job description to count how many people live in London, the RFL clam there is around 1,000,000 fans, so that is, if my maths are working, 1 in 6 people like RL. So would an interview with say LMS, if he wasn't leaving, go down so bad? Local boy makes good kind of angle.
The quins media team should be hounding every sports editor in the city, on a slow news day you might get something substantial in. The local TV press as well, the only time the club was mentioned was when purdo's brother die. I don't think it took much journalism to like to two together, however there was no mention of a club statement. Again, it raises a profile, might not be the kindest way of doing it, but it still will give people the incite the club is here.
What a lot have people have missed is that if the club goes to the wall there will be thousands of kids without heroes to look up too. The amateur game in London will not go away, it is too strong and has too many people roped into it. However little Jonny is not going to, and no disrespect meant by this, look up to Paul Thorman at Skolars as a hero. He won't see him on Sky every week, so he looks like another amateur player.
I would like to know what people think on these points, as if anyone will hold back, and please can this thread come back to the real issue of saving little Jonny's dreams of playing our wonderful sport at the top leave, in his home town.

How does it take you 90 minutes from your home in the "city centre" of London? You can get to the stadium from Waterloo in 35 minutes, what are you doing for the other 55 minutes?

problem is your stats show you spend more time trolling on all of the other boards that your allegiance will always remain a mystery......we can however establish however that your poor spelling and lack of a command of the english language, combined with what appears to be a lot of time on your hands at the moment may lead us to believe that your mummy and daddy have disappeared down the working mens club this lunchtime leaving you home alone. Perhaps next time they should remember to activate the child lock on your computer.

I just journey planned on tfl website from north london
walking, bus, 2 tubes, overground, walking. 2 hours
then went on google maps and got directions and times by car
50 mins (if it's clear)
i believe him and the interweb would seem to back it up, but when are you ever wrong even when faced with actual evidence ?

I'm intregued as to how it could take so long - hence asking him rather than telling him he is wrong.
I didn't realise North London was the "city centre" either.

Camden is classed as North London yet a stones throw and 10 minute walk from the centre. Depends how north you want to be

Right, and your point?
If it's a 10 minute walk to the centre, its another 10 minutes to Waterloo. You can't have it both ways.

| You implied it as though North London and city centre are miles apart thus making some sort of vast difference when it's 10 mins walk or 2 mins on a bus.
My point, city centre/north London, pretty much of a muchness really.
Off past history though you always seem to ridicule the people of London who don't live in the vicinity and like telling people about the wonderful transport system and how easy it is to get to the ground when in fact it doesn't even take that long to get from St Helens to Leeds compared to a Quins fan going to a 'home' game.

I didn't imply anything. I asked why it took him so long to get to the ground from the city centre, then for some reason you steam in wailing about how long the journey is from somewhere in North London. And now you are saying its only 2 minutes from the city centre - make your mind up

Not sure that I have ever posted anything at all along those lines but if it exists in your head then fair enough.

| Dave, I agree once you get to Waterloo it's pretty straight forward, but it's the getting to Waterloo bit that takes time. I travel from near Canary Wharf, it is easily 20 mins to Waterloo, then get ticket for the train to Twickenham it all adds up. As my point was people in London on the main commute Monday-Friday, more travelling on a weekend isn't always what people want to do.

Absolutely, fair enough.
Whereever our stadium is though, we won't be able to appease everyone, especially if you are attempting to draw in supporters from so far away (no disrespect intended).

I agree Dave, the only Stadia close to central London are soccer ones. However, having been to sporting events where people have to travel a distance, if you get a buy in and a big if, you can get an atmosphere on the way there and on the way back (results pending on the return journey). That is my point with not hassling the London press. Get people out of town be aware this is going on.
