| Did anyone watch tipping point Monday?A question was asked "what sport do the London broncos play" after some thought the guy got it right.
As good as that was how many other pro sports teams from the London area would have taken a while to answer.
After all these years its depressing to think how small an impact we and RL have made.
The guy was a southerner BTW.

| Its nothing to do with the south, its a general thing with "our" sport, it is a minority sport remember. I have friends in Yorks and lancs who could not tell you what sport Salford red devils, or wakefield wildcats play!
I even got asked only last night from a northerner when the Rugby league season starts!!!!!!

My point was after all this time in super league we have gone nowhere,it underlined what a missed opportunity its been.I would expect a big % of people would know at least which sport the likes of Saracens, quins,,pro soccer clubs etc play.Of course its not a scientific experiment carried out under laboratory conditions but it just highlights what a pigs ear its been.

It proves nothing, my Mum wouldn't know what sport 'London' Wasps or 'London' Irish play and I bet there are 1000s of men and women in the south that don't. Club Rugby of either code is not mainstream in this country, that's not London Broncos fault.

1,000,000 1/2/3 generation Irish in London know exactly what game the exiles play...your mum aside, Saracens do hold a works record and I'd suspect there are a scary amount if England ru shirts in wardrobes across the country when compared to anything other than soccer. Your right........union is a tiny sport but it absolutely dwarfs league.....absolutely.

I take it that's a typo but Saracens definitely know how to work crowd figures.
I know someone who is a Saracens fan & he freely admits declared crowd figures for their Wembley games are complete BS.

Can I assume from your response that it was a multiple choice question and he got lucky ?
Unfortuntely I have never had the pleasure of watching Tipping Point so have no idea.
But here is a cheeky little multiple choice question for you:
Where will London Broncos will be playing in 2015
1) Wembley Stadium
2) They will be homeless !!!!!!!
3) The Hive
What do you reckon ?

I'd say fortunately myself.

Interesting rant but it has no relevance to my point about CLUB rugby. CLUB rugby union and CLUB rugby league are not a big deal in this country and I hardly know anyone who has an active interest in specific CLUBS in either code in the south of England. It's got nothing to do with our pathetic excuse of a sports club.

There are lots of people with an [iinterest[/i in union clubs, but far fewer who go on a regular basis. Witness the disparity between the number who attend the 'London' double header against attendances for the four teams at home.
Our problem is we don't even have that interest.

I disagree, I think people in the south are open to being persuading to go to one off events (in union and League) the dark side just have a much bigger marketing budget to reach these people, particularly at club level.
Most of the people I know or work with have a soccer team they associate with / follow even if they never go to a game....hardly any of those people have a union team they associate with or follow closely. Yes lots of them make a point of watching the union internationals but that's it.
Club union is not a big deal down here, which makes selling a poorly run League club even more difficult.

and post 2003 a great number of them will have (in the bottom of a wardrobe admittedly) a white shirt with a red rose on it that will be dusted off next year and worn "down the pub". There's the problem.....they know the game exists.
I did some work over here recently with a guy from East London who has lived here for 12 years and is a RL nut....his boy plays locally and he attends 3 or 4 amateur games a week. He freely admits to not knowing RL existed when he lived in London.........he thought it was all Union and only Union.
BTW......a million Irish....plastic or otherwise knowing what game London Irish play is hardly something to dismiss. Yes, they struggle to attract crowds, but that's because they're crap and not in London.....not because they are unknown.

| London Irish are a strange construct.
They make a big thing of their plastic paddyism when in reality the club should be called Thames Valley Tongans.

And how many 'ex-pat' northerners and aussies/kiwis are there in the south of England who 'know we exist' and have a knowledge of Rugby League as a sport. There must be 100000s. The fact we don't benefit from that as a club's another matter but RL doesn't live in a bubble of awareness that just stops south of Wakefield.

Actually I think they've made a reasonable fist of things at Reading, certainly better than Saracens did at Watford or Wasps have at High Wycombe.
Certainly can't see them moving back to London any time soon, should rename themselves Reading Irish.

I always thought the thousands of free tickets Saracens dished out was a waste of time.
But mistaken brand recognition is still brand recognition at the end of the day.
