We've had much better wingers than Wells and Greenwood, did Dymock always play at 13?
To have Retchless on the bench is boarderline sin.


I'd be tempted to put Danny Williams(iirc?) The prop that we got while he still had to serve his ban before he could play for us, iirc. He probably wasn't as good as some other props we've had, but he added alot of grunt in our forward pack, so i'd be tempted to put him in instead of Karl or Louie.
I'll think about mine and maybe post one later on.
Wouldbe tempted to put Tommy in for Moran aswell, but it would be close for me imo.

I would have Tony Mestrov in the 17, certainly ahead of Louie. I remember Glen Air having a purple patch at when played at hooker due to injuries but apart from that was pretty average. Purdham is the only one of current sqaud who should get close.

Rusty Bawden got to be ahead of Tookey as well.

Other candidates: NBQ (for one season at least), Shaun Edwards, Martin Offiah, Greg Fleming, Peter Gill, Terry Matterson, Jason Hetherington, Thomas Leuluai, Matt Toshack, Paul Sykes

Agree with Cram. I always like Justin Dooley too.

I don't think Leuluai did anything in a Broncos/Quins shirt that has been near the rugby he has been playing at Wigan. Most of the time he was miles away and played badly, far from the level that Moran played at (for us anyway, funny how things worked out).

Like Rusty....his offloads sometimes fooled his own team as well as the opposition, but he always made yards.

Agree wtih Dennis ahead of Tommy, his try record for us was outstanding.

I nearly put Tyrone Smith in at wing, partly because I don't remember any really good ones since '97, and I was desparate to include Wayne Evans but couldn't put him in over McLinden. Never considered Carroll.

The Salford fans I spoke to liked Dooley too. They said he had good aggression.

I'd put in Greg Barwick for his kicking.

So who are they, as you didn't name any? I've only been watching regularly since 2002, yet I can't name anyone significantly better than those two. NBQ had one good season (as did Greenwood) and I'd probably pick him ahead of Greenwood on that form, but looked pretty hopeless after that for me. We rarely seem to have wingers who rack up double figures in tries and at least Wells is defensively sound.

I was looking at the SLStats website and Roy tended to occupy a wingers slot in the squad, but I remember him operating more as a ?

I always saw Roy as a centre, although he was certainly a decent player and would be a contender for my best XIII since 2002.

Brett Wharton was before my time - I don't recall ever seeing him play, or if I did he must have left soon after I got hooked.

Andrew King was good. I think we had him for just one season when we had a relatively weak side (2004?), so yes I'd probably pick him at left wing if I was going to pick a "2002-2010" team without shoehorning people into unfamiliar positions:

Moran was a 7 not a 6. Dorn would have a shot at a Broncos team but not a Quins team. Otherwise can't disagree with a lot of that.

I reckon that's a pretty fair line up on both sides, but I reckon the Broncos would win - good way to get round the Edwards/Moran debate, by the way.

Edwards wasn't in the same league as Moran when playing for the Broncos. Moran took stick from time to time, but looking back, he is probably one of the best players that played for London Broncos.
