yawn...............thought we'd got rid of this lot when rovers came in to SL. apparently not !

Fair question. I think it's because we were on the brink of extinction for so long at one time, lurching from one week's survival to the next, that left the club with only the true hardcore support & nothing else for decades.

Then there was the initial SL debacle, when we finished last & WANTED to be relegated, but were kept in this division by the powers that be for an artificially long period which severely hampered our development as a club. Only when we went out of SL, rebuilt & then were subsequently promoted, did we turn the corner.

TBF, we are now steadily building crowds year on year, and as someone who has followed Fartown all my life (44 years) I can say with some honesty that our away support is, so far, encouraging this season and has been better than alot of the clubs that come on here taking the p1ss.

If we are to progress though, we really do need to win a trophy now or the danger is that we may have reached a certain level and that's all. Then the only way may be back down once the season tickets return to normal price.

Here's hoping for more improvment though.

Thanks for your honest reply, i was waiting for the usual responses, yours is quite honest and true to the point.
I've had many a good day at the Galpharm, the hospitality was always superb, had a good chat with Ken Davy on numerous occasions, he signed my son's shirt along with all players and staff, but it always puzzled me why you didn't get bigger crowds, succeess may bring em back, good luck.

Because we haven't won a major trophy for 50 years, in that time we spent 3 decades in the doldrums with crowds regularly under 1,500 and for a few years under 1,000 in a ground that was literally a crumbling dump
We lost 3 generations of fans - 3 generations who didnt even know there was a Rugby League team in Huddersfield, i wouldn't have known if it wasn't for an ex player introducing me to it - and those that did know about it had no interest in it.

Obviously, over the years we've started to wake up and make strides towards becoming a succesful club again and a whole new generation of fans have been introduced to the club and are slowly starting to bring friends/family members to the games and get them hooked like most.

Dont forget most SL clubs have a tradition of being Rugby League hotbeds where generations of fans naturally introduce the next generation of fans to the club by taking them to games when they were younger etc, we haven't been able to do that because there was nobody around to take the kids to the games.

We're proud of how far our club and indeed our crowds have come from in the last 20 year, people forget that only a couple of decades ago we struggled to get 1000 fans to our games while most of the clubs getting good crowds now were getting them back then too !.

Again ,as i wrote above, thanks for your honest reply, you will get there, success will bring them back, times where hard, We're ALL proud of our clubs, been there seen it bought the t'shirt
