we cant break the bank for mellor, not suggesting we do, but we will pay marque money to an overseas player for 3 years meaning the likes of the seniors, for example, have to move on to get match time.

Your point is moot-
we aren’t playing marquee money to an overseas player who is keeping out a youngster.
In fact our youngsters are keeping out Aussies.

We've then got 4 top earners who can't get in the team in Seb, Frawley, Uate and Leroy (who Thewlis claims has been fit for for a while but can't get in the team).

The fact that four home grown kids in English, Wardle, Senior and Russell keep them out is surely a good thing!
It also tells us something about our coach in that he will play on form not on name.

I'm all for our youngsters and I've said previously I wish we'd stay with him homegrown and English players going forward. I'm not a fan of signing overseas players at all anymore. My point is that we waste money and cap on these players who hardly improve our squad. For me, the money would be better spent on keeping our youngsters long term.

A team of youngsters is no good. A mix is best. The kids need to aspire to something and what better in the game than the NRL

How can our youngsters aspire to our aussies when they can't get in the team, prooves a point that our nrl recruitment is crock.

I think we tend to do better out of our islanders than our ozzys. Hinchy was good, before that our best ozzy was probably Hodgson, then Drew.

As for the Roberts rumour, if we aren't willing to pay Mellor the same as a second rower who can't get in our team then somethings wrong. I know we have a cap to work to, but that being the case we would surely be trying to get Roberts out on loan somewhere or out full stop to accommodate Mellor? If Mellor does go Roberts really needs to take that opportunity and stop resting on his laurels.

It seems to bother you but doesn’t bother me- if we all though the same the forum would be rather boring.
My comment is instead of looking at it in the focus of our youngsters are keeping out other players from aus- hence showing them they are better than those players and so therefore encouraging them to continue to play better -you see it as a negative. It’s a squad game- we can’t play all our players, apart from Connor there arent any youngsters we’ve failed to keep hold of so I just dont get your negativity.

roberts will be on a good wack after his world cup performances and apparently the nrl clubs were sniffing at the time... or agents talking it up

as it stands now mellor should be on more than roberts but at the time we all thought roberts was worth it but hindsight is a great thing!

Well that's him going backwards then! In all seriousness, its a real shame we can't keep hold of him as he is a good player who is getting better and better at Fartown. Hopefully the money saved on any improved contract we did offer him will be used to put towards either a monster prop or a 13 in the Hinchy mould.

- leeds is a poopstorm at the moment behind the scenes so the money must have been the draw.
The way I see it, he’s been a decent signing and we’ve had good service from him, seems to have put himself in the shop window more this season but personally I would much rather use the money to keep wardle as he’s a potential match winner. If we lose both I’ll be disappointed.
Be interesting to see how he performs going forward could tell us something of his character is he a seb/Roberts character who plays up for the deal, or a hodgson/hinchcliffe true professional.

not too happy having a player play for us knowing he is playing for someone else next season, stopping someone else from progressing, a waste of time for me and shows no loyalty to the club..as a fan you want loyalty

for me bring ferguson back and ship mellor out on loan instead!

It’s the system GiantsRL, fundamentally flawed as it creates these situations, not sure how you could make it work any other way, crazy, but same for all I suppose.

Good player , was never going to a superstar and not really sure he’d have been a starter when everyone’s fit , I’d personally say I don’t want to see him in the team for the rest of the season but with injury’s it may be hard and he’s a good lad so you know he’ll put his all in anyway

Well Leeds fans can’t be so over enthusiastic- not even mentioned on their site.

Real shame, not the biggest (for second row) but a natural try-scorer who knew just where to be and how to get over the line, will be a big loss.
