it was alot better than the catalans game by us, 18 errors in the catalans game, we cut down on those.... maybe not in the last 10 when we had to chase the game but it almost paid off

leeming is a penalty machine, but he decided to run forward with the ball yesterday and looked very good when he does that, needs to back himself more

Reading with interest in what has been said on the Forum. I was at the game yesterday and looking forward to seeing Jake Mamo in action. However, I was totally disappointed with his positional play, he looked all at sea under the high ball ( so much so that Darnell was moved to full back for a while) and didn't offer that much in defence or attack. Admittedly he had a good try saving tackle in the second half, but other than that (and his try) - not a lot to be happy with

On the plus side he's enthusiastic and vocal. Thought he organised the defence pretty well.

He may have gone out to the wing for a breather after supporting for his try.



He was blowing a bit at times but I guess that's to be expected at the moment.

he moved to the wing because he was struggling with fitness, understandable when he only started running two weeks ago and not played for 6 months. the same thing happened against catalans and macintosh helped him out

good to see an attacking full back who looks dangerous, maybe abit shaky under the high ball though i feel

I think you guys were quite unlucky not to get the win ref had an awful game he was however consistantly awful towards both sides !!! I don't think he brought you back the ten or didn't notice how often you were off side and also some bad desision against you that could have changed the game.

Mamo did nothing in attack?
You obviously missed his pass to set up Mackintosh for his try and his run across the pitch and pass to Wood that helped create Jerry's try.

Correct he has not given a single penalty away this season. A shame a few more cannot follow his lead on the discipline front.

Stats as i hope we know do not tell the whole story. He looks utterly pedestrian when carting the ball up, is easily dealt with which leads to a slow play the ball. There is more to being an effective forward than simply meters gained. He looks a championship player through and through to me, causes absolutely no problems for the opposition at all. To be an effective forward at this level you have to be able to either offload, 'get your nose through the tackle' for a fast play the ball, or have some distribution skills. Clough has none of these and is a waste of a play every time he gets the ball.

Regarding Mamo, he may not be getting everything right, but he is a breath of fresh air to me. He has bags of enthusiasm, and in his first match was trying to get on the end of everything we were creating, which is great. I hope he drags certain players level of enthusiasm upwards and not visa versa!!

The first and foremost job of a forward is to make metres.

Offloads, quick play the balls and distribution skills come second.

I know stats don't tell the whole story.

Let's say a penalty gives the oppo 25 metres from the kick.

That would drop Ikahihifo's nett metres made down to 4.96 average against Clough's 6.99.

Both players give something to the team in different ways - if we could get someone on the end of those Ikahihifo breaks then the penalties he gives away would be worth it.

As it is Clough is making a bigger contribution to consistently getting the team upfield at the moment.

For me we are too soft no one seems to be mentioning for the second week in a row a Warrington player is up on a charge for a late high hit on one of the oppositions playmakers.

I'm neither condemning or condoning it but it seems more than just coincidence and it goes unpunished during the game and on both occasions Warrington won the game.

Despite this we lose the penalty count 1 for every 2, Gaskell is off the field for 10 mins, in Suttcliffes case it was the full game.

Brough will get banned for mouthing at the same disciplinary meeting are we not missing a trick here it seems to be if you are going to concede penalties and get men banned you might as well have an impact on the game when you do it.

I'm not condoning what happened but you would say what appears to be Warringtons strategy worked late hit the playmaker and take him out just too late and high and they copped a ban.

I'm not saying do this but if we are going to concede penalties let's at least let it be for being in the oppositions faces or being a bit rough or over zealous !!

Was just stating with taai and Seb being able to offload in the tackle the pace brierley and mamo have the opportunity for them is there if we utilise it!

I think the point being made is that Gaskell has made several breaks In The last couple of games and hasn't had the support.

Yes and I agree. the original post I was responding to mentioned having support for Derek and his offloading game and how it wasn't supported. With Derek and taai making offloads in collision mamo and brierley have the speed and elusiveness to create clear breaks.
With Gaskell now dipping the shoulder and getting though jake and brierley could also be there in support of him

so if gaskell is making clean breaks

brierley is backing up taking offloads

Sounds like another good signing gone bad along with our strategy and style of play !
Aah well I fail to be surprised any more along with many of the "pay up and (try to) smile long term supporters of our team
