we certainly bombed two chances when gaskell broke through
ratchford is a very good full back mind and tackled him for one
second one the better option was to pass to roberts but he kicked it
at least gaskell makes breaks though, we rarely see that from our half backs
ikahihifo again brilliant, just wish he would get backed up to take his offloads
leeming had a beautiful side step on clarke to make the try for mamo to go under the posts

| Our try from Darnell looks dodgy on the replay. The only one of theirs suspect is where sims "knocks on" in the build up. Either way we should have defended them better. Poor from seb to be beaten by god let.

| Quote ="brearley84"much more encouraging today with that performance
we cut out the errors and what a difference it makes, our completion rate must have been high.
let ourselves down on the penalties today though, thaler did not help us at all mind.... how can gaskell get tackled head high then have to go off and warrington get off with just a penalty...?? same ref sent off amor for the same thing, just no consistency ...
we certainly deserved at least a point today, warrington just got a roll on in that 2nd half 10min period that we failed to deal with, question marks about both wire tries though but when your down you just dont get the calls.
bit of a break now, dont have to rush players back for swinton
get taai and cudjoe back in and things can get better if they continue like they did today and complete sets'"
Agreed with the fact we cut the errors out but we don't seem to be able to cut the penalties which cost us today game in my view. We always seem to give penalties away right deep in the opposition half then concede immediately, just like their first try - it makes me want to bang my head against the wall.
We started to knock on a few times in the last 10 minutes but up till then I thought we did excellent completing our sets.
Jake Mamo is going to be some player for us but unfortunately this season its all about survival now.
Darnell did excellent on the wing and should be the start left wing now. Left Centre is definitely a position we need to recruit in the off season though.
We are now 3 points off St Helens in 8th and 4 points off Wakey in 7th, both have a game in hand on us.
Lets be honest Saints seemed to have upped their game since sacking Cunningham and you'd expect Warrington will probably end up fighting for 8th spot with Wakey.
Bottom 4 will be:
9. Wakefield/Warrington
10. Giants
11. Leigh
12. Widnes
To make top 8 we are going to have to win 3 maybe 4 more games than Wakefield in the 2nd half of the season (depending if they win their game in hand) due to our poor goal difference and win more games than Warrington.
Hull KR got beaten by Tolouse today but are suffering majorly from injuries.
Were too good to go down but we do need another clear out come season end but I don't think we will get one.

| I can't believe people are encouraged by that. We must have been really bad against cats. Wire looked poor and so did we. Neither team on that performance would trouble most SL sides. We lose concentration and it cost us two tries. We can't deal with bombs, but on the plus side some of our attacking looked good, although that was partly down to poor wire defence. We have some promising youngsters, hopefully these opportunities will help them develop, but I think it is safe to say unless something changes we will be in the middle 8 again.

| Certainly could tellit was the 2nd game of the Easter period as both teams have done far better. Wouldn't be disheartened.
Could have gone either way and good of the Huddersfield players to go to brought and console him when missing the final kick.

Looked to me on replay that Mamo was tackled in the air.

I thought Ratchford looked to knock on on their first try, but maybe the camera angle is deceiving.

| A shout out to mellor. I've been quite critical of his defence in recent weeks. As a team we still missed 37 tackles which is too many- but mellor made 42 tackles and missed just 1 so well done him on that improvement!

Leeming gave away 4 penalties. He is an absolute liability and all his good work is wasted by his indiscipline.
Also I see that both Wakeman and Clough had good games in both defence and attack.
Of the 42 tackles missed the majority were missed by the backs and we seem to have a real issue with tackling technique in all the backs.

I don't get the negative comments on Clough - I thinks he's been solid from day one. Nothing spectacular but makes some good yards consistently. He actually looks better at 13.
Also, Wakeman is getting better and better now the ground is getting firmer. Interesting to see play from end on for a change as he looks to have some good quick feet.

Agree with you here mate. Clough was never a Seb type player, we all knew that. But he is a smart, hard working forward and been one of our best forwards so far this year for me.
Wakeman is getting better, I think he has a long way to go until we see his best.

| it was alot better than the catalans game by us, 18 errors in the catalans game, we cut down on those.... maybe not in the last 10 when we had to chase the game but it almost paid off
leeming is a penalty machine, but he decided to run forward with the ball yesterday and looked very good when he does that, needs to back himself more
a few dodgy looking tries yesterday from wire for 2/3 and for ours macintosh one

Thought we'd signed a "poacher" Jools who had a reputation for getting on the end of breaks - correct me if I'm mistaken?
Maybe he's being saved for backup at full back or his contribution in a vital play off game (as last year ) Either way it's puzzling!

Looked at Clough's stats. Average 6.99 metres, 3 errors, 3 offloads and no penalties.

| Reading with interest in what has been said on the Forum. I was at the game yesterday and looking forward to seeing Jake Mamo in action. However, I was totally disappointed with his positional play, he looked all at sea under the high ball ( so much so that Darnell was moved to full back for a while) and didn't offer that much in defence or attack. Admittedly he had a good try saving tackle in the second half, but other than that (and his try) - not a lot to be happy with

On the plus side he's enthusiastic and vocal. Thought he organised the defence pretty well.
He may have gone out to the wing for a breather after supporting for his try.
He was blowing a bit at times but I guess that's to be expected at the moment.

he moved to the wing because he was struggling with fitness, understandable when he only started running two weeks ago and not played for 6 months. the same thing happened against catalans and macintosh helped him out
mamo got the man of the match in the examiner, two games in a row
good to see an attacking full back who looks dangerous, maybe abit shaky under the high ball though i feel

| I think you guys were quite unlucky not to get the win ref had an awful game he was however consistantly awful towards both sides !!! I don't think he brought you back the ten or didn't notice how often you were off side and also some bad desision against you that could have changed the game.

| Mamo did nothing in attack?
You obviously missed his pass to set up Mackintosh for his try and his run across the pitch and pass to Wood that helped create Jerry's try.

Correct he has not given a single penalty away this season. A shame a few more cannot follow his lead on the discipline front.

Stats as i hope we know do not tell the whole story. He looks utterly pedestrian when carting the ball up, is easily dealt with which leads to a slow play the ball. There is more to being an effective forward than simply meters gained. He looks a championship player through and through to me, causes absolutely no problems for the opposition at all. To be an effective forward at this level you have to be able to either offload, 'get your nose through the tackle' for a fast play the ball, or have some distribution skills. Clough has none of these and is a waste of a play every time he gets the ball.
Regarding Mamo, he may not be getting everything right, but he is a breath of fresh air to me. He has bags of enthusiasm, and in his first match was trying to get on the end of everything we were creating, which is great. I hope he drags certain players level of enthusiasm upwards and not visa versa!!

The first and foremost job of a forward is to make metres.
Offloads, quick play the balls and distribution skills come second.
I know stats don't tell the whole story.
Let's say a penalty gives the oppo 25 metres from the kick.
That would drop Ikahihifo's nett metres made down to 4.96 average against Clough's 6.99.
Both players give something to the team in different ways - if we could get someone on the end of those Ikahihifo breaks then the penalties he gives away would be worth it.
As it is Clough is making a bigger contribution to consistently getting the team upfield at the moment.
