| Tomorrow we finally get to support our boys on home turf. Against London the atmosphere is usually poor but let's start the season as we mean to go on by singing, shouting and cheering. It's been said numerous times in the examiner and on the official website how much it lifts our boys when we get behind them. The songs we sing aren't hard to learn so join in and get those around you to do the same. We also need songs for our new boys as well as a new song to add to our current ones in the style of the ones ultra fans at some footy clubs sing as well as Wigan and Bradford that I heard last season in SL .I don't know about anyone else but a big part of a great game for me is the atmosphere so if we are wanting new fans to keep coming back and bringing their friends we need to make the experience a great one off the pitch as well as on it. Should the club have the words to the songs in the matchday program? Should all the singers have their own section or spread out to persuade others to join in? Any ideas to get more people to join in? I know we've had threads like this before but if our crowds are to improve we need to help the newcomers enjoy the whole matchday experience. C'mon Giants fans let's hear some passion tomorrow!!

This is one of my biggest complaints, and it annoys the hell out of me - our fans have this thing where they look at the number of away supporters in the south stand and if it isn't many clap the opposition as they come onto the field , London, Catalans, Salford and last year Cas were the beneficiaries of our 'welcoming' home support
Why? we are about to go into battle with these players so therefore should be making it uncomfortable for them not welcoming them !! - no one does it for us despite having away followings usually less than what some teams bring to us - we boo Wire Wigan Leeds Bradford etc and try n make it tough for them so why not everyone - PLEASE STOP CLAPPING THE OPPOSITION ONTO THE FIELD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they soon stop clapping when they are winning..
its almost as if they feel sorry for the away team because they have not many fans travel...do we get the same treatment??? nope

Disagree with that.
There is more than one way to create an atmosphere and i for one do not want to go down the route of tribalism that exists in soccer.
I would clap a team on the field and clap them off.
It is about respecting the opposition and being sporting enough to clap them off.
In between times i sing and shout as much as anyone that to me is the best way of supporting the team.
I also dont like NEGATIVE chants. Much better to be supporting your team than attacking another.
The we all hate Leeds scum makes us no better than the Soccer MORONS.
Gop down that route and i wont go to gam,es anymore.
I would rather RL fans be better than soccer fans, i would rather Huddersfield RL fans be better than the average RL fan.

| But my point is why only respect the teams with small away support, everyone is quite happy to make it a rough welcome for the bigger teams but are welcoming to others, its not about tribalism its about giving our team all our supporting efforts.
people wil clap london onto the field tomorrow but sit in silence for the rest of the game rather than supporting our lads.

I agree with this. Wholeheartedly.
Our clubs fans has one of the best reputations in the game. It's good sportsmanship - something I want to instil in my kids.
And seriously how can you complain about supporters welcoming another side when they organise a well done wire flag!

| Agree that our supporters only clap low supported teams - but can see why - GOOD sportmanship. I for one will be politely welcoming the opposition on Sunday - and am proud that in the main Giants supporters have a good reputation for fair play/sportsmanlike support. Games against London are never going to be a great atmosphere given the distance away fans need to travel. See nowt wrong with "welcoming" the away team and fans given the circumstances.
After all how many times in the past have we been on our backside with dwindling away support, and with a team that has little chance of winning!!! I can honestly say that for every tribal supporter who cannot see further than there own team there are many more at all clubs who whilst giving wholehearted support to their team also respect the wider game and supporters before/after matches - without other teams there would be no RL.
That said - yes we should work to get the home atmosphere improved - and give the boys total support during games. This needs to be done with positivity if the "singers" want everyone else to join in. Negative chants such as "We all hate Leeds", "I,ve got a shed (WTF?)", and disrepectful chants to individual players (oh yes you do!) just puts off potential joiners in with the chants as quite rightly they do not want to be associated with that.
So let's get behind the boys by all means - perhaps we will never be ultra fans - but we should defo continue to support the lads and build on our reportoire of songs for the new signings.
Finally I noticed at Saints that apart from the first try celebrations - the chant was changed for the rest of the tries scored. Not sure this is the right way to go when what we are trying to do is get some more to join in?
COYG!!!

I agree but i think most of those who clap London onto the field and then do not shout for the Giants are mainly older fans who dont come from that tradition of shouting and just politely clap.
Clap London on and off, applaud their fans and say hello to them. Anyone who follows London away on a regular basis deserves a pat on the back and then in between shout yourself ho cheering for the Giants.
Be careful not to shout yourself too horse unless you want to end up in a Tescos burger !

| Yes we need more singers and yes i think the club should encourage more singing by putting lyrics in the programme, the prematch music and tune the team come out to could be better, that stupid tune from last year thats now being used on a tv bingo advert is utter rubbish.

| dont think anyone is saying be like football fans and come out with disrespectful chanting... i for one dont like the bulls#it one
just dont get the welcoming of an away team, like our patch to be a fortress and intimidating for the away team.. anything that can swing things in the way of our HOME team the better for me.

| Telling people who not to clap and that they should sing etc - how to show their support is not the way to encourage new supporters. As long as folk are not offensive or aggressive then it's up to them how they show their support to the game.

| The clapping is a nice thing, the boos are more ironic than anything else. RL fans are better than soccer fans. Segregation is a real shame, but if it means more families come to games then so be it. We are a family sport who understand our own club is not the be all end all of the sport. Long may it continue.
Having said that, make your voices heard for the Fartowners on Sunday.

| Here here agree 100% with Ponner need to change opinions amongst our fans so that in future it's the ones not singing which get the strange looks.
Sing your heart out for the lads win or lose and they will give us 110%
