Wally was a great favourite at fartown and a hero to many of the fans on here

you can tell him from me he made cold sunday afternoons a joy for me when i was a lad, the smell of bovril pipe tobacco and wally's scintillating play will forever live in my memory and it was a sad day when he left for oldham

Aye, tell him I have yet to see a fullback that produces as much anticipation as him when he took on the line, and no one since has been able to chip and retake the ball with such skill. He gave me some of my best memories watching this club.

i've yet to come across a more skillful ,entertaining rugby league player in the claret & Gold - Stanley ran him close but Wally was THE man, great to hear he's about !
He should come and visit the Giants sometime too !!

As a kid I used to try and copy those kicks, worked in the back garden, but not on the pitch. 'Give it Wally' best chant ever. Great to hear from him and glad he enjoyed his spell at the club, but then why wouldn't he, he was a true hero and in the team that started this clubs resurrection.

Here here Daz i remember his debut up at Whitehaven when he bagged a hat-trick pure class and i wonder how he would have got on if he was in superleague nowadays

I just wrote on another board that it was his home debut, but I think you are right it was up in Cumbria. Only a young lad so memories are a bit thin. I believe one was from about the halfway line, breaking the line and rounding the full back.

Can't remember how he scored tbh but they were happy days going to the away games on Ida Rothery and Clive Bowers coach ,all 20 of us

That many !!! the 1st trip i had on the flyers 'coach' was a yorkshire cup tie away at Doncaster at the old Tattersfield ground in 88/89 ???? and there were 14 of us on it !!

He was small if I remember correctly but very quick?

he went to oldham who were a decent sized first division club at the time,then decided FWIR he wanted to go back home.

he was amazingly quick and seemed to go past players like they weren't there

as for jonny's question, he'd be a top top player in super league today no question

Brad Davis did not initially leave us for bigger and better things. He was treated shabbily by us and ended up at Nottingham with Jason Lawrence, initially at least, IIRC.

I could have sworn they both ended up at the same place. It's hazy though, we're talking a good while ago now aren't we.

left us in 94 played for york between 95-97, not sure about laurence i thought he went to french RL?

from what I recall they both came from Nottingham in our struggling period along with David Oates (didnt he play loose forward and was a goalkicker??)
They played a season or two for us and from what I heard were offered new terms --but we also got a new coach (george Fairburn???) and he just released them as he had others in mind -I believe Kerry or was it Flanagan ?? cant be sure

Flanagan came to Fartown when Wally went to Oldham in our first season at Leeds road, think Davis must have had to make way to Steve Kerry who was a pretty good player

Yeh Laurent Luccese (spelling?) he was pretty good, did'nt Sylvain Houles come at the same time also

yeh you are right although im pretty certain Luccese came with another French player at the same time ,centre or winger
