Smacks of desperation to me. Get shut of Ellis before the season starts, then brierley, now find ourself without any halfbacks.
So let's sign a halfback from a fellow struggling team who can't even get in the side, Leigh have no interest in helping us avoid the middle 8s /MPG so allowing him to come to us speak volumes. Ridyard is Leigh through and through so he's no interest in helping us win either.
How is Farrell ever going to develop if he isn't given the chance?

Maybe he'll play alongside Ridyard at Magic?

Otherwise it's Farrell and Wood which is obviously too inexperienced a half back pairing at SL level.

We need to be beating teams around us and Cats are definitely one of those.

The fact we are in a situation where we have to take a poor player who can't get in a poor team says it all.

Stone said before he will be bringing some players in who will help the club long term. Well all this does is help us till Brough gets back in 2 week if at all.

One side of the argument is Leigh obviously don't feel Ridyard will make a difference to win us a game or they wouldn't allow it, given we are competing with them for top 8. They obliviously want their man to get some game time in case they need to call upon him in a few weeks so he's match fit.

The other side of the argument could be in some way they maybe looking at it in the view of it may actually be better for Leigh if we beat Catalans, Wakefield, Warrington and St Helens as it keeps them within distance of top 8 if they get a couple of wins

That said we do need some experience to guide us around the pitch but I can't see Ridyard making a difference to win us a game so we may as well give Farrell the opportunity.

Problem is if we do lose the next 2 middle 8s is a definite. Which means we will be behind yet again with recruitment like this year and all we will hear next year is well we are some way behind the other clubs in terms of recruitment.......

When selected Riddy has done well, for whatever reason this season this season, Ben Reynolds (who couldn't get into our championship side last season) has been selected ahead of Martyn, despite him being average in most games. Most Leigh fans aren't happy Riddy wasn't being selected, and now this.

I shouldn't need to be making this decision as we should have a half back in case our two are injured/banned and my solution would have been to ensure this was the case.

Right now what I would do is Play Farrell and wood- two home grown kids who know each other well and have played together.
I don't see how brininging in a player- who has no vested interest in us winning whatsoever- a few days before a game, who doesn't know our plays, the rest don't know his, is better.

Ellis is not a Super League standard player and it as IMO the totally correct decision to let him go on loan.

Absolutely correct, Ellis has never been able to command a place at any of the clubs he has been so why is he so vital to us all of a sudden, People do remember where we finished last season i hope. I would have Ridyrard before Ellis any day, and for what it's worth i would play him alongside Farrel.
I take jools point and it's possible, but if clubs have sunk to tactics on this level , then maybe it's time to pack the game in.
Regards Ridyard, he may not be a world beater but lets be honest he is hardly joining Melbourn is he. When we signed Breirley people said it was Ridyard who was the player that made Leigh tick, at least we will be able to judge who is the better player for ourselves,
Many a player gets better under a different coach, and many a one get's worse as we well know, Dare i say as an example Greg Eden , I remember it well "Greg who? Ha Ha what a joke". Isn't he leading try scorer at the moment and going OK for Cas, yes he still makes some mistakes but he knows how to score tries and D Powell seems to be OK with him, but what does Powell know.
I don't see how we could be worse off with Ridyard than we are playing wood, Personally i would be more concerned about our pack fronting up to Catalan, we could do with winning this one.

exactly, ridyard becoming available for us is a good coup when we needed him, not a bad player at all and very experienced... something the other two options we have in farrell and wood lacking..hell wood isnt even really a half back but needs must!

But chase being available ..... surely that would give us a better player....

According to some reports today Leigh are trying to bring in Todd Carney on loan from Salford ,would this not have been a better move for us?
