| Can anyone justify to me why we have given this guy a contract extension?
He must be on some good money but his form this season has been awful and hasnt warranted an extension and the inevitable pay rise thats gone with it.
IMO we have better options at the club like wardle, cudjoe and lawrence (who was a centre and was told he was a second rower and last night found himself on the wing!)

| He's definitely on a good wedge. Hudds offered him more money and a longer contract than Saints did when he left.

lately everytime he gets tackled he plays the ball then stands there like a pensioner and as if hes ready to come off with an injury ... dont think he can hack it anymore taking the tackles
and ive lost cound the number of times he comes running onto a ball then gets smashed and knocks on...or just knocks on...3 times lastnight i think

| It was Gilmour's fantastic break and palm play that set up the wonder try for Leroy and Lawrence to finish off a couple of months ago if I remember right

Crikey brearly84 do players only play well, score a try when their contract is up
Maybe we should despatch with the coaches and put everyone on a pay by minute deal, £'s for every completed metre, pass and try scored
Wonder how many of the top players will go for it, god help them if they get injured!

Saints didn't offer him anything and I don't know of a single Saints fan who was happy to see him go.

We did offer him a contract but only offered him a 1 year deal due to the over 30 policy. Huddersfield offered him a 2(?) year deal and that was better for him to secure his future. They also offered a little bit more money than saints were prepared to.

That's not what Gilmour said at the time. He said he hadn't been offered anything by Saints. Longy was offered a one year deal and he turned it down for two at Hull.
Not sure an over 30 policy exists actually. Wello was offered two years and he's now 31. Puletua has just been offered two years and he is 32!

| He's worth it for the experience alone. He has been mentoring the younger lads- don't forget how young many of our and second row guys are!

| Anyone remember my python - esque thread on gilly at the beginning of the season?
I've really tried to watch him in detail this year to see what others were seeing and I was missing. He is a grreat tackler and hard as nails. No one gets much yards when he hits them. Also he makes some great angled runs, and his experience is appreciated by young players, and coaching staff alike. A great role model.
Given his age It has surprised me how often Nathan has picked him - nearly every game ( he rates him obviously) but I think the last month has just started to catch up with him, and errors have started creeping into his game.
In many ways gillys form has mirrored the teams.
Hopefully he can mentor some of the young talent we have in his position.

He brings far more to the table than just the 80 mins on the pitch though even he'd admit, friday weren't his best game

| to run a line and take a ball on the move which Gilly does very well is not just about the run but also the pass.... and with our playmakers being in out and injured so much maybe the timing is just off..... or gillys is too..... but he has generally had a good season in my book..

| He is a class act Gilly.
Lovely fella who IMO is doing a good job for you guys.
I know I have only seen the games on TV and he has never looked out of place.
I have no doubt someone will reply and say the rest of the games he has played he is bloody awful.

| He is the Giants leading tackler again this year averaging nearly 28 per game. In comparison to last year the only aspect of his play that has got worse is he has made a few more mistakes. However all other aspects of his play are just as good as last year.
Even the number of errors he has made (19 in 19 games) is well below that of many others in the Giants squad.
I cannot believe anyone who has the first idea about rugby can single Gilmour out for criticism.

| Personally I am a big fan of Lee Gilmours, he is a class act in attack and defence and I am certainly glad we have him for another two years. He is one of our most consistent players and very rarely misses a game through injury which is a credit to him when you consider how many second rowers we get through per season with injuries.

| Every team needs a 'Lee Gilmour' IMO, especially when you have lots of younger players like we do, his knowledge, experience and the fact that he's done it all in the game can only help the younger players...on and off the pitch.

| I have just had a look on the Super League site at his Saints record to see if he was producing better stats when he was in his prime and what i actually found his his stats now are every bit as impressive as they were for Saints. His performance levels have not dropped off at all.
The only difference is he is having to do loads more tackling than he has ever had to do at Saints probably because of the amount of possession the Giants give away.
So if the Giants could keep possession better and Gilmour was doing less tackling we might see even more from him in attack.

| I really do wonder if you see the same game I do! Gilly made one error all game, Simpson was coming back after months of injury and played in several positions in one game and did ok. We are not making the yards- that's the problem.
