The problem with this debate like the whole Thorman thing is that when you look at a player in isolation you tend to compare him to others playing in his position.
If Amos Roberts and Pat Richards were not catching your eye with all the publicity Hodgson would be looked upon more favourably.
i would love to replace Hodgson for either of the above two players but you would also have to sacrifice someone else to make up for the extra wage costs.
Who else would you want to sell to make up for it. Fatz, Jammer, Raleigh
The other thing is that people just look at young players and say stick them in the team. Brown and Mc Gilvary are probably no faster than Hodgy but are much weaker defensively.
Hodgy is what of the hardest working wingers in Sl and defensively is one of the best so we have to live with it.
Despite that there have been a couple of occasions when he should have gone for the line, if he gets knocked into touch we accept it ( except as fans we would all be saying why did he not come inside).
I was disappointed against Quins when he could have dived for the line instead of cutting in but later on when he was caught by the full back after Robbos break that was robbos fault as he gave the ball too early and did not commit the full back.
Hodgson gives good value for money. maybe one of the kids coming through will displace him or we will strengthen in the future, for now i think he is doing a pretty good job.
