| Quote ="kirkhall"But this is the area of contention, was Bird concussed ? did he look concussed walking off the field to you?
Is there a chance he 'could' have been faking it or not and, did you think Bird swivelled his body before impact to connect with Reynolds via his shoulder, Acton was right at the side of the incident and also, was it a Foul tackle?
I wonder what Ben Reynolds thought of Birds 'tackle' or, Jamie's action?'"
Doesn't matter if minutes later we find out Bird is fine, in those 2/3 secs immediately after the incident you don't know and this is why you should never touch a player that went down like that.

| What many seem to be ignoring on here, is that the tackle from Bird wasn't late, and it wasn't high.

| Indeed. Tackle wasn't late or high. Was a nasty clash of heads.
Acton obviously at fault.

| when bird attempts to tackle reynolds the ball has already been kicked,so it must be a late challenge, accidental or not.bird was making the challenge so was at fault for the injury to reynolds face, which would suggest that it was also high.everyone is ranting about what could have happened if he had a head injury,or concussion.but it turns out that he did not have either or he could not have retuned to the pitch.so acton is being charged with what could have happened, not what did happen.would this charge stick in a real court.i dont know,i am not a legal expert, but there are a lot who think they are on the social media at the moment.personally i like the way he plays the game, but he keeps letting himself and his team down with his lack of discipline.

yes he looked concussed he was laid out and not moving
the physios run on the pitch and hold them still incase of any neck injury... acton could have done serious damage doing what he did and taking things into his own hands.
i am discussing actons actions here not birds tackle on reynolds which was naughty too, the rfl should punish bird for that tackle if deemed so

My team is Leeds and ferres served 6 games and rightly so. Actons big hard man attitude has seen him in trouble far far too much for his age.

| Quote ="brearley84"it was shocking from acton
you can go picking up a player thats concussed, even worse he could have broken bones in his neck due to acton, luckily all involved is ok but could have been very different.
and yes bird is a dirty player but still cant defend acton on what he did deserves a big ban 6 games'"
Yes and if my Aunty had balls she would be my uncle.
Fed up of all this 'if he had a broken neck' rubbish, he didn't, his arms and legs were moving, you don't need to be a doctor to work that out.
He also wasn't concussed, as the head test and Catalans doctor proved. So essentially Jamie grabbed the shirt of a player on the floor who went down to avoid a sin binning.
What if birds late and high challenge had hit Ben in the temple rather than his nose, he could've had brain damage or worse?
Now don't get me wrong it's poor sportsmanship but wow, some people, including our own supporters, need to get a grip.
It's the mock outrage and online histrionics that will determine the length of his ban rather than his actions

Some very valid points put over there, but do you honestly think Acton was even contemplating the situation at the time
Hope there is a good outcome from our point of view but I have my doubts

Me too Col. I can't see how he can get out of this one. At the end of the day, his actions simply can't be defended, whatever their motivation, or the state of Bird's health.

Thats his weakness,he still needs to learn to pipe that aggression with ball in hand. Not continually off the ball.

If only he could do that, and it's looking increasingly like he can't, I still feel he would be international potential.
Do you remember Richard Moore, when he was with us in 2005 SL? His attitude was not dissimilar to Jamie's. After he left us, he had a spell out of the game, and took a labouring job. He reckoned that was the biggest shock to his life that he had ever experienced and then realised how fortunate he had been to enjoy the privilege of being a professional sportsman, instead of grafting for a living. I believe his attitude changed after that. He still played hard, but cut out much of the silliness that is now blighting Acton's game.

Ferris did indeed serve six matches because he seriously hurt Gildart! how many games did Gildart miss?
Your Club has its share of disciplinary offenders too, JJB, Ferris, Garbutt and Ablett have all been through the door at Red Hall! And lets not forget, your Club gave us Ryan Bailey too
I asked had Jamie Acton ever injured anyone to warrant such lengthy Bans?
Against Salford in the 8s last season, Jamie was pulled up by the review Panel for pushing Salford's Flanagan with two hands in the back. This incident was not seen by TV, the officials or Spectators! Jamie was given a FOUR MATCH BAN This season I watched Widnes player Chris Houston run at speed and push Ref Phil Bentham flat on his face! Houston did not receive any Ban whatsoever which offence would you consider the worst? Don't forget here Referee Bentham [ucould [/uhave broken his neck being hit from behind when unaware of impending contact!
Notice the use of the word COULD ? that's exactly what Jamie is now accused of

| Quote ="Fantastic Mr Cat"i've no dog in this fight, i dont particularly care for either player, but having just this second watch it, there is no way you can say it was a late challenge, it was a clash of heads, accidental, acton has then broke concussion and injury protocol going over and picking him up like that, which is a major major thing these days, He will definitely get teh book thrown at him.
the other thing that i haven't seen mentioned at all, was that he very nearly picked Reynolds up as he walked back as well, he had hold of his shirt material and let go as if he realised he was bound to get in in the poop.
Very very stupid decision from him.'"
Hiya Mr Cat thanks for your input incidently, Dog fighting is illegal
You say it was not a late challenge? where was Ben Reynolds hiding the Ball then? Answer, 20 yards down field where he kicked before being hit late ! Reynolds is over six feet tall (I think) and Bird swivels his body to connect with Ben just before impact!
Stop listening to Phil Clarke and co and look at the action in slow motion!
Sky went on about our second try and Crooks foot in touch well, it was clearly in touch however, he didn't have his hands on the ball at the time and when he did pick the Ball up he moved his foot back into play! Exactly what the linesman saw
Regarding picking Reynolds up, do you know if there was any rhetoric between Ben and Jamie? or indeed, between Bird and Jamie?
Anyone who's ever played halfback will know its reassuring to have one of your forwards looking out for you particularly when cowards like Bird are around! Alex Murphy was always grateful for the 'protection' Vince Karalius gave him and I'm sure, there are many other halfbacks that have received the same protection from team mates! If Bens not already thanked you Jamie, i'll do it now on his behalf

That also applies to Gareth Hock! I think he has seen Red only once with us in two and half seasons ? and that was in the mass brawl at Swinton which, Hock did not instigate only he defended himself, admirably

| What Bird did was intent, but not malicious intent, unlike Actons. When you trip somebody up there is no malicious intent only intent. The current grading system only covers malicious intent not intent.
See what I mean..

| To be fair, if it was last season, he would've lamped Bird, rather than just grab him by the collar.
He'd probably be looking at a 6 game ban if he'd twisted someone's ankle like Bird was doing to Crooks.

| Actually the only one who knew Birds condition was the doctor who let him back on. I'm not condoning Actons action in the same way I'm not condoning cheating, but lets at least have all the factual evidence on the table first before passing judgement.

If bans are to be judged on potential injury, then Danny Brough is very lucky not to have had a lengthy ban this season.
As said previously, he grabbed someone by the collar, wasn't long later that Bird was back on the pitch having a fight.

Which, I suspect, is why the club has asked for another week to gather evidence.

Well of course he did! don't forget Jamie's disciplinary record suggest he's the dirtiest player in the league so, he's bound to know the best course of action having completed a cheap shot and, injuring an opponent is to fake injury and hope for the best
