It doesn't matter how long the plan is for , if it doesn't work , nine years ago I sat at the table in the MM bar and said we were there for the long haul , if in ten years we still had a Leigh Centurions club then we would be a success

Well we didn't last ten years , we lasted 4/5 , then we needed bailing out , Arthur has lasted something similar , hopefully whoever cones in will do better than we did , I have my doubts

So why do the same mistakes get made time and time again when it comes to sports clubs frank ?

I have my doubts as well but i always find myself thinking if the likes of castleford and huddersfield can have a bit of success then any club can.

Correct , unless you can separate the business from the sport , you will make the same mistakes , you have to ' invest ' as much into the business as you do into the sport , if you don't all you are doing is setting yourself up to fail a few years down the line

What ' success ' ?

Stage 1 will always be to simply get to a few years down the line.

2 CC finals and playoff places for hudds.
Decent crowds and a competitive team for cas.

This is why i said i'd take a knight with a ten year plan.
We might then have a middle of the road ,stable club to follow, instead of the usual attempt at boom followed by the inevitable bust that always happens.

Doesn't seem to bother other Non Relegation clubs with much smaller average crowds who currently appear to be there indefinately does it ?

Too late , every year has to see an increase in crowds in the hundreds , that will not happen unless you invest heavily , you cannot rely on on field performance to raise your ave attendance

Yes we would , but spending two thirds what everybody else is , would see us stuck in the bottom three year on year

Steve O Connor at Widnes has suggested they need 7,000 new ' Strongholder ' members to enable them to spend at the max salary cap in SL , why has he done this ? , simple 7,000 home season ticket holders ( as this is what a strong holder member amounts to ) will basically guarantee a 10,000 ave attendance at the Stobart stadium with casuals and away fans

That 10,000 figure is also the break even figure suggested by the HKR chairman as what they require to sustain a club at max salary cap , if you don't spend the max cap , you will finish in the bottom three year on year

The RFL have the 10,000 attendance as the ' marker ' in their licence criteria , why ? , once again because that is the sustainable level when added to SKY money and all other income streams that will enable a club to compete in the market for players good enough to avoid being stuck at the bottom of SL

Whatever extra income the owners of a club need to put in in the Championship to spend at the max salary cap will treble at least if that club was to gain a SL place , so sustainability in the Championship is a must before you move up , or you will fail

I was told some time ago you need 10,000 in Super League to be self sufficient and for every 1,000 below that you need some person/people puting in £100,000.

All dependant on the income streams available to you , which are decided by the stadium you are playing in , I'd suggest the formula you posted is if you are playing in your own ' owned ' ground with full control of revenue and no rent to pay , factor in loss of concession sales income , stadium advertising and paying rent and you could double or treble that 100 k per 1,000 fans , this is also suggesting you are spending full monies on junior development and community programs as well

What if a big money man (or woman) came along and says "heres 2 million pounds, i dont want to be on the board i just want Leigh to continue moving onwards and upwards". Do we have the people inplace at leigh that can manage this amont of money to take us forward and do we have in place the people who can use this money to market the club efficeiently?

I am asking this question because if i was to put X amount into the club i would want to know the right people are in place to make this work, or if not do we think there needs to be a complete revamp of the Leigh structure?
