No more or less offensive than the referee's a w----- or you fat ba----- Or any other childish references that go on at EVERY single sports ground in the UK be it sung or chanted or shouted.

Perhaps those advocating changing the words (and fair enough if you feel so strongly enough about it) will actually start up a chant at the next home game

Never meant "we" as claiming you sing it tbh. I use "we" as a collective term for us as Leigh fans. I don't sing it either.
You do need to look up what hypocrite means tho. I was very strongly in favour of P&R and totally against franchises until about 2006 season where I started to come round to the idea that something had to done. Does that mean I'm a hypocrite about that too ?


Anyway lets see how the next home game goes, as the last one I don't recall it sung.

Sunday was the first time it was sung at an away game in at least a season, and look at the recation that got!

I see your point Fred, but it is a sectarian song. By singing it Leigh as a club is aligning itself with the other bunch of mindless thugs, the UDA or suchlike. I find it all rather distasteful.

Because, personally, I [ido[/i see it as a song that supports Leigh, and as I've put on here plenty of times in the past, one of my biggest bugbears is people who can't put aside their club loyalties for 80 minutes of international RL.

It's just a song. People at other clubs probably sing things that are just as "unsuitable" to use a word, but I don't go and watch every other team so wouldn't know.

I'm not saying it's right or okay but I don't think it deserves as much attention as it gets.

So upto now on the votes cast there is a total of 50 that either love it/sing it/ just a song and 34 that either thinks its bad for the image of club or think its terrible....

Figures dont lie.....

..or 44% should be considered a significant number of people, and maybe its time to sing it in da pub and leave it in stadium.

Maybe it is because the vast majority of Leigh fans like the song because they consider it harmless.

Regarding implying support for the Protestant terrorists well that is stretching it a bit. I happen to think all terrorist groups are beneath contempt and I would expect that to be the majority view too.

31 people out of 2000 is not a majority and I was affraid this would happen when I saw the way the pole was worded. For all those who support this song you are a disgrace and you let this club down everytime you sing it. By the way my real name is Tony Wilcock so you can not say I'm hiding behind my username.

My name is Andy Keavney just to play your open and honest game, and I am a supporter of this club and I will admit to singing this song on occasions but that makes me no more/less of a supporter than you.

I am in the firm belief that this is just a song, which has one swear word in it, and mentions the IRA, yes it could be seen as outdated but as for all the insults you deem fit to pass out to your fellow supporters who either choose to sing this or just see it as a song.....unbelievable springs to mind!!!

I am not doubting the support of anyone on here and never have done show me where I have said this. I have said all along that this song does not belong on the terraces of this great club. Not one person has come up with a valid reply of what it has to do with Leigh or rugby league. All it has is an abusive line to a team that is not even in our league and to an ex paramilitary group. And you think that saying someone is a disgrace is insulting?
We are in 2010 now not the 70's or 80's when crowd violence and thuggery was rife. What will it take for people to realise how it comes across? A TV presenter commenting on it? That will be great for the club that will. There are a lot of blinkers being worn a the moment. Familly game?

Bad for club image - simple as that.
As has already been pointed out - The RFL will look for any excuse they can, and this one is an easy target. It's all about the image of the sport as a family game.
Whatever the opinion of those who say 'kids hear/say worse every day' the use of the F word as the focal point of the song just looks a bit shabby to those not involved in singing it!!

I think you know what it means, leave it (ie don't do it) in the stadium (LSV).
Now what doesn't make sense is singing a song at a rugby game with the words......

This is the most pointless vote ever! Whatever the result of it is nothing will change.
People will either sing it or not sing it. For what its worth if there was an option for..... Most useless vote ever, thats the one I would have chose.

if we can get 150-200 votes then it could be seen as representative of the 1500-2000 fans that watch Leigh, as around 10% of fans would have voted.

There are two positive answers of varying degrees, one neutral answer, and two negative answers of varying degrees. How much fairer could I be?

Michael these sort of things are never easy to word, however reet mon seems to see the neutral answer as an endorsement for the song where as neutral answers should neither be for or against.

All this family game talk is very nicey nicey, although I agree with the sentiment of the idea but in real life there are swear words and other things that some will find offensive, so what?

Ice hockey is a family game. Does that stop the players beating seven different colours of muck out out of one another?....... No! And does that have a detremental effect on the kids enjoyment that go watching it?... No.

My point is that there are things in life that are not perfect or by the book, but people still enjoy them no matter what and this really has been done to death and is becoming boring now.

I will say like I have many times before, its just a song and those that want to sing it will, and those that dont....well .... dont... It really is that simple to me.
