| I now believe we should rebrand as Wigan and Leigh at the LSV RLFC, and play friendlies every week with no points at stake. Goal kicks should be optional and if one team is winning easily then you can pick their two best players to swap shirts during the game.
That'll pack em in.

| Quote ="mike1984"I just read that post back and depressed myself- what I'm trying to say is that if we're all hoping to watch a team of young Leythers win the GF, attract another 2000 fans, have no interference from any other club and then be granted a licence on a silver plate then we're all delusional. Alternatively if Wigan twin with us then the worst that could happen is we get some talented Wigan lads-[u I didn't here anyone complain about the dual regs not having any attachment to the club last year[/u - I thought the likes of Laithwaite and Spencer, for example, did us proud this season. We need to focus on building a strong squad capable of winning games and attracting more fans and I for one think Wigan can only help us to do that. I'm sure many other people disagree but that's just my thoughts.
'"
Do you know what i mean when i say "unit" if you do you'll know some of us have been seriously worried about the direction this club has been going in from the day the "unit" came to this club.
Current events in rl are just proving us right to be worried.

| Cherry pick.........that's what we need to do to finish our squad - get the best released U23`s that the SL clubs are offloading (we will have a U23`s ourselves I believe next season).
These released young lads will want to go to a lower league club before walking away from the game so lets fill our 1st team and reserves with the best that we can.....their loss is our gain and could be the making of this club for the future as I think they will count as Leigh trained players if they are under 21.
A lot of VERY good quality players are coming on the market.

| I really don't know why there has to be feeder clubs at all. If any player who is playing at the top of his game in the Championships is offered a contract by an SL club he is going to take it. I can see the reason for an under 18s or 19s but why an U23s. Why not just have the old system of U19s, A Team and First Team? I think it was AJ who said that if you haven't made the first team by the time your 21 at your club you probably won't make it anyway unless you are really short of players. I think he was commenting on Shaun Edwards being so young in the first team and GB squad.

| Quote ="mike1984"I don't see what the big fuss is all about? This seems like a sensible concept to me
What's the worst that could happen if we become a 'feeder' club to Wigan? Or if indeed the whole championship becomes a 'feeder' league to the super league?
1. The best players in the championship will get signed up by the super league teams (that already happens now folks: Hill, Walmsley etc) super league teams will still have to pay a fee for the player.
2. Fringe super league players will be offered to championship clubs in way of loans, dual regs, signings (yep that already happens now aswell: Spencer, Brierley etc)
3. It means young, talented rugby league players who are too old for the junior teams but not yet ready to compete in the super league will get a chance to play and earn experience with hard working, well-coached championship teams. Quite honestly without this concept I don't know what these lads would do and I think you'd find more and more players losing interest and focusing on careers outside of rugby (Bryn Hargreaves is a perfect example). If that happened then literally the future of rugby league really would look pretty dim.
4. It means teams like Hunslet, York, Dewsbury and Swinton will be much more competitive next year (I hear a lot of moaning on here about the pointlessness of some teams in the super league who arent competitive but surely being a Hunslet or York fan must be more frustrating?) Now these clubs and their fans can look forward to seeing a greater selection of players than before?
5. Talented players from both leagues don't have to re-arrange their whole lives in order to continue their rugby careers (travel, jobs, accommodation etc) we all saw how it didn't work for Worrincy this season - poor lad missed his family and couldn't get a job!
Whether you like it or not the championship is a lower league than super league which offers less pay and extremely limited opportunities for promotion: as Leigh are a championship club we are in a position that means ALL our players, and coaches for that matter, would jump at the opportunity to move up to the super league FACT. We already are feeder clubs in a feeder league and being twinned with another club would make no difference in my opinion.
The fact of the matter is that if we want to get in the super league and stop being the poor, pointless neighbours we need to tick the licensing boxes: 1. Win the NRC or get to a GF (tick!) 2&3 have good attendances and a healthy turnover- so it's simple, I've said it on here before: we, as a club, need the good people of Leigh to put down their lobby, pick up their wallets, ignore the fact that they could go watch Wigan for a couple of quid more, be proud to be a leyther, and come down to the LSV once a fortnight to cheer on the mighty Centurions!!!!
If a mere 10% of leythers do (Thats 4,300 - I've done my homework) then we'll be in the super league in no time.'"
I have seen enough Reserve team football to last a life time there is no way I’ll be watching ‘another’ RL teams reserves. No matter how you dress it up.

I TOTALLY AGREE ,this is a very true post , ive been saying this for a few weeks now , there is no panic needed about Twinning , it wont happen at Leigh , i have faith in Trevor B , Paul R , and Keith Freer , they wont allow it .
As you say Jay , next season there will be many talented youngsters coming on the Market , i would love to see Lewis Tierney , and George Williams in Leigh shirts in the future , probably wont happen , but other talented lads will prefer playing for us , rather than going to Amatuer Rugby , so lets stop all the panicking we may have a couple of good young lads in mind already .
How many fans had seen or heard of Matty Russell , this time last season , till Paul R mentioned him at a LISA meeting ?

| Semmingly all SL clubs except Salford have now formed "partnerships" with Championship clubs some have two.
Wigan have partnered with Leigh and South Wales Scorpions. Wolves with Swinton.
This is to allow SL players not eligible for the SL Under 19 and not selected for the 1st team to be available to the partnership and is a step further from the loan/dual registration that has operated.
Now Championship clubs will only be able to receive players on dual registration from their partner club. clubs not in partnerships will only be able to take players on loan. However loans will still be available to all Championship clubs. Clubs can have any amount of dual registered players but i understand that its not been decided how many can play in a team i believe 4,5 or 6 are the options.
Will it work not sure, benefits to Champioship clubs dual registration will cost nothing, loans will.

I hope this is not true because if the SL teams are getting to the so called good teams of our league it will kill our sport all together as i see our league as the only league not to be messed with by the RFL and its the best league by far IMO. Because if this does happen we will be next then fax etc and our dreams of promotion will never happen as it will be shut off forever as the RFL and the SL teams will have everything they need then us being feeder clubs.I doubt it is true though as why would you be wanting SL if you were going to become wigans feeder team? Does'nt make much sense to me.

| Has anyone mentioned the coaching staff that will come with this feeder league from the SL team? Who has the final say who plays? How much input does the parents' clubs coach have? Will the club be able to get a franchise , being a feeder club. After all it was the SL clubs that VOTED to do away with the junior teams.

| I Think you will find the deal has been done with Wigan I expect to see 7 or 8 Wigan players in our under 23s team for next season
I do not think the C.E.O and the board of Directors of the Leigh realise the past History between both clubs
This is what makes a game between Leigh and Wigan so special the feud between both clubs has existed for many years and now the CEO (who is not a Leyther ) and the board want to destroy all this and tie us up with Wigan
The only club that will benefit from this move is Wigan as Leigh’s fewer than 23s will have to make way for the Wigan Players hence weakening Leigh for the future
Why do we need to tie up with Wigan?
If this happens another season ticket gone

Your coach too will have to stomach it , as he could become nothing more than an assistant coach to the Wigan coach. Is he strong enough to tell the Wigan coach he is not picking a certain Wigan player over his own? The team that is Twinning with Leeds are even to have an assistant coach from the Leeds camp.

Maybe nothing has been finalised - hence nothing else to say. The club has said they WILL NOT become a feeder club though. A joint arrangement at under 23's is a different matter, whereby both clubs can save money by running a joint team, funded by both clubs.
As for the coaching, Paul is our Head Coach and will surely not be assistant to anyone. He's signed about 20 players (off the top of my head) and they are his first team squad. I'm confident that no Wigan Under 23 player will take precedence over any of that first team squad, who we have spent our precious funds on. I'm also of the opinion that Paul would try to avoid D/C arrangements if he can.
