| Who knows what to believe. Some Cas fans saying it's definite. Others think it is rubbish. Suppose we'll have to wait and see.

| Apparently the Cas fans don`t think he`s good enough for them.........
Maybe Maguire will rethink his move to the Rabbitohs and opt for Cas?

| pulled from the cas forum......the info is yours to make your own minds up on,,.....
"=#0040FFSorry but you need to stop believing everthing you hear from your sources, they aren't telling you the whole truth. Gentle never signed a contract with Cas, he was offered the job and turned it down after the second interview stage at which playing budgets were discussed. This is why the announcement last week never came, he pulled out over a week ago. Cas have been trying to get him to change his mind and failed. Adrian Lam & Justin Morgan weren't interested either so Millward got the call friday and accepted this morning. If it makes you feel better you beat Wakey to his services, mainly because you offered him what you offered Gentle, which is a very nice package by all accounts. For what its worth I think he's a decent coach, though very difficult to like"

| Having worked with 'Basil' for the last two years people who say he is 'difficult to like' are morons, he is the most knowledgeable man on Rugby League I have ever met, he always makes time for people but doesn't suffer fools gladly so for all those that say he isn't easy to like well.....
I for one hope the rumours are not true but if they are I will wish him well and will miss his knowledge and sense of humour and friendship.

| As good as Millward has been for us, I think we have to be realistic that Leyth was only ever going to be a stepping stone for him to get back in to Super League - a man of his talents deserve to be plying his trade at the top level. Dare I say it, it would probably reduce our expenditure somewhat if we hired a lower-paid coach to replace him.
No doubt whatsoever that he will give his undivided attention to the job in hand until the minute if/when he leaves.

| I would expect Purtill to get a SL job within the next 12-18 months anyway - he seems to be very highly thought of in the higher echelons so it depends on whether he'd want to get some head coach experience before taking a SL job.

| wouldnt be a step down though as he would move from assistant at SL level to head coach at Championship surely this is a correct pathway for a young coach to go? can you see Saints having the whatsits to make him head coach if their guy goes back? he may deserve it but that says 'nowt' I know Basil would highly recommend him for the job.

Agree that it is the correct pathway, or at least it should be seen that way, but I half suspect that Saints would want to keep an eye on him so that he could hit the ground running with a squad he's familiar with if given the head coach job?

| If he goes, his replacement must be capable of continuing all the work that Ian is currently involved in.
Having seen him in action, and listened to him, he is light years ahead of anyone else we have had in the recent past.
We must not step backwards, in the coaching role, or the work on youth structures.
Also, what might be the players' reaction, should he go? Many have joined because of Ian.

| Well we will see but I do not think Basil will go to Cas. That is because why would he go there ? I do not dislike Cas but there is no more achievable there than here.
Also their beer is crap' well near Wheldon Rd it is.
He is revered here. His wife and kids are Leythers. So why Cas ?
Oh and just in case a Cas fan reads this I do not intend offence.

| Ian is ambitious, will Cas/Wakey allow him to fulfill that ambition?
Ian needs a big club in SL, Leeds would be made for him - he would turn Bradford around even Hull would start to hit potential. Is he earmarked to replace Smith at Wire? All these would be the right move.
He lives in a sponsors house, his wife works in a Leigh bank, both have families in the town and Basil is on good money.
He will probably be concerned whats going to happen with ownership and what budget he has to work with next year but he is in year 2 of 3 contract wise and maybe he needs another 3 year deal to convince him he is at the right place.

strange on that considering he was in the club reception all suited and booted waiting for his interview
Maybe he was just meeting up with John Kear for a general chit chat though............
Someone else stated why would he want to go to wakefield and not stay at Leigh ???
Hmmmm let me think........Millward obviously saw Leigh as a stepping stone back into Super League.
Do you really believe that he wants to stay in the championship for another 3 years or more ?
I am pretty sure that in 3 years time Halifax will be the team to come up, with Leigh outsiders when the RFL
may decide to expand the competition.
Also do you think that Leigh can pay him the salaries that are on offer at Super League ?
Get real.....whichever (if Any ) super league positions are offered to him he will take it.

| He is reported to be on a SL coaches salary already, it isn't all about money it's about ambition and the clubs already there in SL are obviously a bigger draw than waiting around another 3 years, as for Halifax being the next contender you base your opinion on what? (bearing in mind I have never thought we should be a SL team) crowds? our average is the same (if this year not slightly higher) our facilities are arguably better than a number of SL clubs now and are certainly the best in this division, our geographical position is virtually the same as Fax's in relation to SL neighbours, our youth structure re scholarships and reserves have been in position longer and with next years extended scholarship scheme will be one of, if not the best outside of SL and better than some in SL, our revenue streams in 3 years will be the equal of any in the Championship IF we can last in the short term, so IMO Halifax and Leigh are at the moment (not counting we already have one box ticked re winning a trophy) neck and neck.
But who's to say any team from this div will be 'promoted' as the RFL have (afaik) not promised this time to promote any club.

| Ian has put a lot of time and effort into the current set up.
Not many know this, but a few weeks before Saints came in for him, he had asked the then current board about his contract and they where umming and ahhing about it.
Had they offered him an extension he believes Leigh would have been world Champions instead of Saints a few seasons ago, thats how confident he is of his abilities.
He told me that himself years ago, and it is my belief he will see out his current contract here at least.
Also don't forget it was Ian who recomended Terk to the board so if he does go, be sure he'll have someone in mind that shares his vision.
