In terms of playing ability, I remember watch him play for Saints v Cronulla just after he'd signed from Widnes.
Was Saints best player for me that night despite coming up against quality opposition (and the fact he'd moved up a division), he continued that at Saints and has helped get them where they are today.

Only black mark was his GB performance down under - bad move.

And being thick enough to open a betting account in his own name and bet against his team. Interesting that his book mentions that some of the members of the the holy than thou Sky Sports team also betting on the game and getting away with it.

Think he was referring to Paul Sculthorpe, who is now a member of the SKY team but, at time, was still playing for Stains so could have influences the result. However I believe Longy's book says that Scully wanted to place a bet but didn't actually do so. It does say several other Saints AND Bradford players did, but doesn't name them.


Is it actually against any rules? Hugely immoral and not in the spirit, or interests, of the game but I suspect they may have found a loophole rather than breaking rules (not that they're adverse to rule breaking of course?!)

Neither did Sean Long influence the game against Bradford. Only Gleeson played in it.



The whole point is that staff at Sky took a dim view of the matter when they had also betted on the game using inside information.
