| Quote ="Ganson's Optician"I thought the decision was made by clubs rather than Red Hall, on the basis that they wanted the Cup Final and Grand Finals to generate more cash for clubs? That was the reason given by a Fax director on here back when the decision was made anyway.'"
It was, the decision was made on financial grounds alone by the clubs asking the RFL to move this event and the Grand Final to normal grounds to ensure they made more money from the event.
I suppose the problem is when the 'event' becomes a 'non event' as eventually gates drop and people lose interest as its viewed as nothing 'special'.
I must admit I do wonder with the customer savvy BOD / BOM we have now as to just how many more we could have got to Blackpool as it did feel like 'finals' event there although can't say I didn't enjoy it on Saturday .
As for the OP, What a picture

| Quote ="Ganson's Optician"Disagree personally, Cup final day should be kept as it is. Schools final, brass band, abide with me, final. To change it by introducing another final would devalue it IMO.
It wouldn't work because it would have to kick off pretty early on meaning the stadium would be at least 90% empty with everyone scattered all over the show. Headingley maybe?'"
100 % correct. Nowt wrong with Fax or the Keepmoat or Spotland.

| I wasn't there on Saturday but I hope that Leigh ( not the club) and the LSV learn from this. The whole area has to buy into hosting a final and do their bit at attracting supporters from outside the competing teams. Clubs having tug of wars. The tag cup. Junior finals all happening on the same day and the towns giving tickets to competing teams. I hear the coach parking was not the best. Councils hosting such events should have this sorted. Hosting a major final like Saturdays is not just the responsibility of the host club.

| And for the benefit of the more sophisticated reader, (i.e. the ones who buy the programme, but not League Express) the photo will be in the Swinton match day programme.

Cheers,
I was well impressed with Saturday's programme - they even spelt 'Centurions' right, this year! And for those who say our programme is too big to put in your pocket, how about Saturday's?! With the apparent exception of Stu Littler, whose back pocket was big enough for Menzie Yere, I don't know anyone whose pockets would be big enough for the NRC Final programme!
Belting programme though.

Very true Alan I thought Saturdays programme was a very good read , some good articles , as for big back pockets , Franks Pockets are very deep , and the guy has such short arms .
