a LOOM with a view , it all looks very good ,im all for expansion , about time to, nice to see the Cinema back in Leigh , many years ago i worked at the Odeon , in Leigh ,as Projectionist , it would be nice to see Paint your Wagon again or SAW , i prefer the deep thinking films as you can see, nothing like the Tears of a Clown.

I used to love going into the projection room of the cinemas. Fantastic pieces of equipment.

Tony , im talking about the old Style Projection cameras , where you heard the bell started up the second projection camera , and changed over after seeing the rings in the right hand corner of the film, happy days , i loved it at the Odeon,they even rewound the films by hand.

The Watcher thinks it is very very sad that the occupants of a once proud town like Leigh are getting worked up into a frenzy of excitement because a few fast food outlets are opening up soon. By God how low have we fallen in our standards, you are acting like a starving dog that has been thrown a few scraps of grizzle.
The cinema is a welcome but long overdue asset to the towns leisure facilities but more burger & pizza places are not exactly going to be serving quality fayre are they ?

Maurice agrees with the watcher, but Leyth has never been one for quality restaurants - you need to go to Manchester for those, although The Indian is decent, even Culcheth Fayre isn't a patch on Manchester but has always been an upgrade on Leigh.
Leyth has had its heart ripped out these past 25 years, maybe we can build on this development first thing to do is ban chavs from the area.

I remember the Odeon being a rear projection screen, and when walking the Town Centre on a 2 - 10pm shift if it rained I used to go in the back door and stand on the stage and watch the film, I saw many a film backwards

Been to the new Tesco today, it was quite packed as well, ended up buying a new microwave oven, wish i hadn't taken the wife now.

We did need the cinema, however we did not need another two supermarkets! We now have two ASDAs ,Tescos,Lidl,Aldi,Sainsburys and Morrison very soon, there's only so much to spend.
Everyone will end up back to ASDA as there are the best value for money there is!

Would have loved to see a nice Italian restaurant like La Scala , rather than a "chain" one and Burger king for the kids

Asda's fruit and veg, meat and bakery will take a tumble once Morrisons get going, me I think it's great for the town, people now have a choice of supermarkets instead of the big yank one, if the others cant compete well that's life bye bye. As for the the other thing well I'm personally not interested, though a Burger King would have been nice again to challenge a big yank (yes I know Burger King is also a yank) but if folk want to spend their money on whatever then who are we or anyone else to say what they can and can't have?

La Scala is very average at best

Did you ever scorch any of the prints when the reels jammed. Just before the Odeon on Oxford Rd closed I went up in the projector room and all the old projectors were up there and the projectionist was revamping them. It's very, very rare that we do any filming on film any more. They don't even use tape.

You don`t need to travel into Manchester for quality restaurants... The High Moor at Wrightington is top notch, The Grill on the Square in Warrington is also good.
Although the Gaucho Grill in Manc is excellent.

More jobs for the town the better I say. Supermarkerts provide a hell of a lot of employment, and Morrisons is the closest to me, and also they have the largest selection of ales and good ciders too. As well as a local stand selling local produce.

Just in case no-one has spotted it Cineworld have an Open Recruitment Event at the Park Inn this Saturday (10am-4pm).

That brings back many memories Tony ,i did scorch the prints ,and remember hearing the cries of put a shilling in the meter when the screen went blank

As Fred says the Odeon , was one of the few with a back Projection Screen , it was a good job ,that very interesting ,i still remember the Chief Projectinist , but cant think of his name , happy days , maybe i could act as Advisor at Cineworld

Just seen on the website that 3 of the 4 Units to be used as restaurants are now sold, 'The Real China' look to have bought Units 1 & 2, never heard of them before this but after googling them, they actually look quite good.

One unit left, will it be a Nandos or wont it?!

Think they're waiting to see which players Leigh retain for next season before deciding to buy the unit.
