Do you think one of the reasons behind that is the level of support you started off with was far higher than anyone elses after a few more seasons in SL and a [ilot [/imore seasons being a top team in recent memory than any other club outside SL (and some in it) ?
A lot of Widnes fans will still easily remember trips to Wembley , world club challenges and competing with Wigan for the league title which has obviously helped in these dark years.

Funnily enough I'd have normally agreed with Viking about rather be in SL than the Championship (and probably still do at the moment in time).
However most Monday evenings I go for a pint with a mate of mine who is a huge Salford fan, obviously the talk gets around to football and inevitably RL.
He is disillusioned and fed up watching Salford, he's losing the passion for the sport and is considering next year just paying for certain games rather than buying a ST (he attends virtually every game home & away).

By contrast I've been bubbling about how good we have been playing and the style - but more importantly how we cannot take a game for granted and how anyone can beat each other on the day.

He said if he could take relegation for 1 season he'd not enjoy it but at least it would give the club and fans a breather and some wins (I did point out that we'd probably take 6 points off them though

).
Now I'm not saying that's the normal thoughts and I'm sure some Salford fans don't mind the teams predicament, I have to say if it was Leigh in SL pretty much guaranteed bottom 4 status I'd be looking for a break from it all as well.

Totally agree Jenky I`d much prefer Leyth to be top dogs in our division and hopefully increase our fanbase above the 3500 mark.

One old Leyther lady seemed to focus her celebrations on the victory today around the fact that Leigh are part-time and Widnes - full! Diddums!

Must admit that in previous encounters Widnes looked out on their feet with 15-20 minutes left, whereas today they looked like they could match us for much longer, so it might not be out of the question that some players have been putting in extra training, especially those who are going to be playing in SL?

I said i would like Apple pie with Custard to which someone took offence.

The level of support has held up reasonably well even through the darkest days.

A lot of fans left as they have been disillusioned with the SL era - being left out 1st time around and the sell off of our best players due to money problems. They came back when we went into SL and left when pushed out for Les Cats. We've always maintained a hardcore of 2500 - 3000. It probably does help having such a successful, relatively recent past as that's how fans are really attracted in numbers.

We do keep our success close to our hearts as we are, in comparison to Wigan, Leeds, Saints and Bradford a relatively small club. We like the fact that we matched and bettered the big clubs and even conquered a star studded Canberra team to be crowned the best in the world.

Under SOC's guidance, we are now back at the top table but it will be much tougher in this age to get back to the top.

So does anyone know what Mr Betts' sniping salary cap after match comments were?
