Ok ive had a thought but this would have to involve the whole of the championship sides for it to work, so here goes...

All clubs need extra revenue from away support and there has been suggestions of offering free coaches for travelling away support. My suggestion here is that if we increased the ticket price by say £1 or 50p then this would cover (i think) the cost of the coaches. Now if you bring in more away fans this will also increase revenue for the club plus keeps everyone happy with the free travel.
As i say this would have to be put out to the fans in all clubs to agree.

Simple way to increase gate money for the home club and increase away attendances is to increase season ticket prices by 60% and use them for admission at away games, instant increase in cash and away support. It would need all championship clubs to participate to work. We would then have two season tickets - home only or all league!

Suggesting that the team play away without support is the daftest thing I have read on here. Will fans have to turn up at LSV at kick off time to prove they haven't gone and wasted their money?

, basically we as fans need to support our club , we also need to encourage others to support our/their club , both financially via whatever means we feel happy with , and via attending matches both home and away

The club needs to start to act more like a business , and less like a charity , it needs to identify ways of getting more income from existing fans via providing either goods or services , and encourage more customers to purchase the same , either goods or services

so would asking for an extra £1 off each fan not help?

attendance 2000 = £2000 for travel
if the away support only brought 100 fans on the free coach(s) provided there would be money left over at the end of the year for the club/ new players.
100 extra away fans at £15 a pop = £1500 per game enticed by the free travel, fans win/club wins

Fred, I am glad someone understood the post. It basically said if we dont have a club we cant watch them away from home or at home. So should the choice come to fund your club or somebody else's then you make that choice, if fans made the choice to look after our club the deficit against expenditure could be covered very quickly without fans spending a penny extra and without the need for directors to fund our hobby/passion.
Personal choice, but trying to get people to understand how easy we could increase income to a level needed to survive. I could have suggested vital organ auctions but felt it rather extreme.

Now that would be a big no no with me Mo as my body is knacked, mind i'm told since they cut down in culling whales there is a shortage of blubber so maybe I am worth something after all

but then again some on here don't think so

Fans will not flock back to watch Leigh until promotion & relegation returns, there is no other sport where winning the division you play in is not rewarded by promotion into the higher division,it is not enough to just support a winning team fans need a prize at the end a chance to play in SL.
Currently fans are asked to dig deep into there pockets and to what long term end to see all our better players moving to SL clubs, all we are is a feeder club for SL teams or in the case of DUAL REG PLAYERS a way of keeping there players match fit and being coached by IM.
Potential fans dont just need to watch a winning team they also need to know they are buying into a possible long term future in SL. currently this is not the case 3 years is a long time to wait.
Im sure this situation also influenced AT and his decision to stand down,3 years is a long time to finance players and coaching staff, if promotion and relegation was still used AT would still be at the club knowing he would be in SL next season with a possible chance of a financial return on his investment.

While I won't disagree with you opening point , how do you explain our 2004 promotion year attendances ?

As for Arthur getting a financial return if we made SL ? , no , it would just have cost him twice as much as it has been doing already , only difference is we would be losing every week instead of winning

You cant keep looking back you need to look forward we have a totally differenet set up in terms of stadium coach etc. a much better oppurtunity to entice fans to attend espeacially away fans how good would it be to see our stadium full worth the entrance money alone.

You could be right on your second point but like any onther business the right people will get the right results

, yes we do have a nice shiny stadium , but at what cost ? , and yes enticing away fans should be a priority even in this league ( although you cannot run a SL club on away fans ) , something we have tried and was a success , as as you state a full stadium would be fantastic and should be THE main aim in the future

On your last point , who are the ' right ' people to run a pro sports club ? , what ' Qualifications ,Experience ' should they have to get the right results ?

The club needs new fans, existing fans will already feel they do enough or they would already be doing more, me for example I won't go on coaches simply because I have use of a free company vehicle, so why should I pay?

I overheard an existing fan talking to someone in the pub the other day, "Why don't you come an see how good they are?" he replied "Why should I, they've always been the same at Leigh always on the take!"

I know its probably not what he meant but when I thought about it he's right, Why should they support us?what has/does Leigh do for the community? I don't mean the good work the community department do in schools etc, but what do we the club, the supporters, LISA do for our town and the wider Leigh community/public?

I know we currently provide them with an entertaining team but if we can't get them there to see it, then what? What we need is to become the heart of the community!

Trouble is its a business these days and people cant get their heads around that.

Some interesting thoughts.
First up I understood what Maurice and Starbug meant (when talking about the money put into Toulouse et al) however RL is a sport to the fans, its a business to the investors and owners (and to be honest I'm not entirely sure thats true - would Dave Whelan continue pouring circa 68 million into one of his business's for no return as he does Wigan Athletic,even owners can get emotional and passionate about sports clubs unlike they would about there day to day buisness's).

Leigh need more fans.
Unfortunatly so does every other sports club in the area just as every pub needs more punters ,every sports hall needs more customers and every shop needs more business etc, etc - the choice for our spare money is now huge, and loyalty is a thing of the past as many RL clubs are finding out.

There is no magic wand, its solid hard graft to keep standing still let alone progress, the team playing and winning as recent as 10 years ago would have been seen as a big attraction - not now.
An example : £40.00 Admittance(2adult 1 child) £15.00 Food/Drink/Programme/Half Time draw and £5.00 Travel costs, so rougly £60.00 to watch Leigh, not too bad perhaps
However if I said heres £60.00 would you think, lets go to the LSV and watch Leigh, or would you say lets spend it on a meal, or lets get something in and watch Live RL on TV, or would you go to the football match or even spend it in a pub/wacky warehouse, would you even know about Leigh playing or would you want to watch top flight RL instead?
The additional ones we are now slowly seeing is, Lets keep it back as my job isn't secure
or lets save it for one of the better games.

Everyone here can talk the talk, how about walking the walk, myself, Frank b, Charlie Caroli, senior, junior and miss caroli have all been tonight playing Poker to riase funds for the club. Frank coming all the way form Salford on a Tuesday night.
Then we have |Derick running the forcast comp with just a bit of help from me and a couple of other fans.
Also I run the LISA coaches and I have Leigh 24/7 and one other fans and a couple of local shops whos owners are fans helping that to be sucessful.
These three things alone, all under the LISA banner will bring in a few thousand pounds, so instead of trying to post ideas on here, do something!!!!!!!!! or join us!!

No one is knocking what of any of you do, and to be honest I truthfully admire the passion, commitment and effort you all put in. But the simple facts are some people (existing fans) either don’t want to play poker, go on coaches, even be LISA/Lotto members, or simply can’t afford/don’t want to do any more than buy their ticket, and perhaps a bit of merchandise.

Which is why IMO we need new fans, or new ideas, even when we have all four stands open, shirts on every kid in the town, 50% of supporters Lotto/LISA members we should still listen to peoples ideas regardless of what they are willing to do to help implement them.
