He's put a bit of timber on hasn't he! He was always a big un anyway. What a waste of a talent. He could have been better than Ricky*.

Your Fullback was 'Fred' Hewitt who was relatively short and stocky. I remember a game against our neighbours,W@@an in 1959 and, Hewitt was fullback. The great Billy Boston had charged down the touchline and was about to put the ball over the try line when, Hewitt 'crash tackled' Billy into touch! the look on Boston's face was a treat the game finnished in a draw, 22 each! Super league or whatever, you cant take those memories away! The crowd, 19970!!

Jeff still looks 'fighting fit' he lives in Australia now and has two young boys, I spoke to him on the phone a couple of years ago he still looks back at his time at Leigh with greta fondness and memories.

| When we were kids playing for Pennington,C of E the first question always asked by the opposition was ,Is Cottrell playing?Their heads would drop ,if we said yes. Tony played Stand-Off in them days.

| What about ex GMP man Dave Evans? Beast of a prop and once ran from half-way to score at Oldham. He loved a bit of biff.

| my original team would stand except due to old timers disease got the hooking position wrong.
number nine not geoff clark but i think his name was either keith or derek clark as nasty a player as any signed from swinton.published his story in a sunday player outlining his play for eye gouging and biting. seemed to disappearafter that episode(quite rightly)

His name was Derek Clarke and he was a very good Hooker and Player, he could look after himself also!
I think he was a Widnesian, I remember going through a turnstyle at Naughton Park and my Father -in-law spoke to him.
