But I can tell you for fact, Higher Folds Friday night disco for this age group started off with about 25 kids in 1975, and very quickly increased to over 300 members and about a further 100 on the waiting list.

How do I know this, my parents started it because me and my mates had nothing to do, what have these kids got to do in Leigh now on a Friday night for a couple of quid?

The players wives have a girls night out on Fridays and need the boys at home on Sundays to do the decorating.
Barton and Freer conducted a highly intensive bit of research into it ('What do you think Mr Barton' ? , 'I don't know what do you think Mr Freer', 'Errrrmm , Lets go for Saturdays as Fridays is corporate Chippy Tea night').
I also here they hope to see gates rocket and have also decided to play alternate Tuesdays at 4PM as it ties in nicely with the corporates who have had a round of golf at Penny Flash teeing off at 1PM.

Higher Folds friday night disco that brings back memories, along with St Joes, Mad Rag, Courtauldset al and Toc H on a monday.

Having discussed this at length tonight, it does certainly open up the opportunity for those involved in the amateur game to attend more and also avoid the 'nice day' factor where our crowd drops because the kids want to go to the park or the seaside etc.

If there is a proper marketing strategy for the Friday games then I'm starting to think we could make some headway in a few areas;
The type who can see the rugby as a start to their night out
Those with families who are occupied on Sunday's with trips out, mowing the lawn and all that
Those with younger kids who don't have to worry about school in the morning (I did find it a rush to get home from home games this season and get my lad off to bed for 7pm once he's had his tea and a bath etc)
In particular we need to somehow target the "I'm bored" kids and make the LSV 'the place to be' on a Friday night instead of knocking about Lily Park etc and would also do our bit for the community in a certain sense

It will be as much of a success as we make it - us as fans have pulled out all the stops to see us through the Leigh Survival period, but now the hard work really begins

And anyway, what happened in our time of struggle, to all the fans saying "oh I'll be there to support my club no matter what. Come rain, sleet or snow. I would give my last penny or breath to make sure i still have a club to watch..... yadda yadda yadda...etc." ?????????

There's always gonna be a few people can't make any game. Even on Sundays. There's always a christening or summat. That's life. You learn your fixture list, and if ur able to go, fine. If summat clashes, either try and maybe work somethin out or don't. Its not the end of the world....

Friday though Jacko, Fridays. The worlds gonna end, we're playing on a friday.

No early bird this season so the correct comparison (ie without the politician style spin) would be with the full price last season. I don't know what it was but I reckon it would show an increase of 10-15% as opposed to your alarmist 55%.

I'd say it's also probably worthwhile comparing with 2010 prices as there were a little more realistic if memory serves me right versus last year's price cut.

They were given 48 hours to make the decision, glow. (hence, at the time of the Forum, they did believe that Sunday was our day) One of our objectives - a big one - is to build a database of all our regular fans, for communication info.to/from.

Don't forget, the 'corporate' people we refer to, are fans too.

Possibly - but it's a heck of a long time in advance, to have all your weekends planned. Makes me realise just what a waste of time attempting to communicate with supporters could be, if they are really 100% organised, that far in advance.

Maybe not all the other 2,000 go on this board though j-i-c? If you took the objectors on here, you could argue that only 20 or so supporters actually object to Friday nights?

After a fantastic last year on the field for Leigh, This to me is a terrible decision, Your fan base has increased for the last 3 years and Many of the Loyal fans who follow home and away are now not going to bother,They wont drag their mates along etc, The away support will also drop which will bring your average gate down,You ticked a Major box with the NRC cup win last year and would have though you would have pushed for the crowd average box to be ticked this year, then next season concentrate on everything else, (widnes style).

Leigh have been in financial trouble twice in a short space of time,Saved from relegation only 2 seasons ago to last seasons performances is remarkable, lets remember the fans make the club, without them and the LISA memberships etc would you still be here as a club. Why would a rugby club ask players when they would like to play ?. My employer doesn't ask me when i would like to work. They get paid to do a job, simple as that, they get told when to play and if its no good then perhaps another club would be better suited.
Corparate hospitality is great and so is sponsorhship, but remember companies and sponsors struggle in this economic climate as you know too well, The fans are the cogs in the mechanism and everything else is just the wheels, without the cogs, nothing works

Pity the alco pop brigade who think fridays nights will be the night to party and watch leigh at the same time seem some what deluded,but as long as the kiddies can drink there alco pops on a friday night who are we too complain.


Mind you they are properly the ones who make you cringe when you see them chanting the usual nonsense at games

Or alternatively it means I know I and other families can attend the game without a risk of "the weather's nice, let's go to the beach" etc which undoubtedly affects some of our crowds on a Sunday.
