| Quote ="joanne callotte"surely, the idea of a change of day is to get MORE people there, like the lapsed fan, and, sorry to say, that is NOT going to happen if you go head to head with S /L on sky
lets look at it from mr average's point of view...........
big game on the telly friday night, or 16 gold coins to watch sheffield at the LSV?
let me throw another scenario into the mix...........would 1pm on sunday work, so the fans have most of the day to go about other business?? no one whinged at the earlier K O for the keighley game when we got caught up in ponseball.'"
How many people can be ar8ed watching the majority of SL games (Hull v Harlequins, Catalons v Wakefield etc etc)? Does live SL keep the thousands of drinkers in on a Friday night? They can record it by the way and most people have a facility to do so these days.
I think our attendances are more likely to be affected due to a family day out on a Sunday than a live SL match on Sat evening. What people forget is that one of the biggest clashes for us is that youngsters play on a Sunday morning and does stop some folk attending our games due to either being out all morning or getting back late from away games etc. FACT - I know of a few people who will not buy season tickets for this reason.
As regards the 1pm KO - that was the worst build up / atmosphere I have ever experienced so that's a NO NO from me.

Completely agree with that - most pubs don't even show the Super League games these days so I don't think it's too much to compete with.

I honestly don't think they do. You might get the odd one with their mates and if we play a big game e.g. against Widnes, maybe 25 or 50 in total. I wouldn't even take this into consideration.

I (like most) would probably record SL games, but the ones that do need the extra push to go, including SL fans probably won't go. Fans of other local SL clubs need to be targeted too.
As for worst atmosphere ever - it has to be Doncaster at home in 2006.

| when the club asked us to vote for our prefered date i didnt bother because i would prefer mid-week games, but as that is not going to happen i vote for friday nights 8pm kickoff.also we're likely to be on tele on thursday half a dozen times so there'll be less disruption for the players.

Don't see why not, it's still cold on a Sunday and still plenty of other activities to compete with.

| I still think i prefer Sundays, as i don't have anything better to do on Sunday, but if not i think Saturday will be better for away support, although we don't get much of that anyway.

| Nobody has thought of the families. I have a 5 year old who goes to bed at 7.30. He would be devastated if he couldnt watch Leigh any more. Stick with Sundays!!!

| Not just the kids.........the Seniors (OAP's) don't like late nights.......public transport is rubbish.....and 6 pm Sat might sound ideal for many ...........but when the very same people who are shouting for that now are faced with the chioce of Championship RL or going out on the Razz.............???
The real problem lies not with Leigh RL or the LSV but with the RFL............take away the "extra" match ( ie NRC S/F v Batley) and we've got just ONE home league game in EIGHT weekends during the "so called" best weather months of June and July....... interest builds up during Feb and Mar with regular fixtures were you know when there's a match on..........after that, unless your a committed fan you've not a clue when or if there's a game to go to......surely in a non World Cup year, once the football season ends and the better weather is here that is were the "potential " for a greater fan base lies.......as it is the "floating sports fan" is basically stuck with Super League whilst Championship RL is left to the dwindling band of diehards !!

| One of bonuses for me is having a few pints after the game in Leigh if it was Sat Evening - would be perfect start to the evening a game of rugby (maybe football too) then off for pint of Owd Speckled Hen . Also the bus service on a Sunday is worse than Sat/Fri evening - I use the bus to the match from Tyldesley.
Can someone also clarify this June/July thing with fixtures - is it the RFL that give us the crazy fixture lists or is it LSV needing this to sort the pitch ?

| It is clear from our attendances that Sunday's are not really working either...
Interesting that last year when we played Toulouse on a warm Saturday evening, we drew a very encouraging 2,200 spectaters (IIRC) and that was with NIL away support.
This to me suggests the club can justify a move to a different game day / time on a trial basis only.
Personally I would prefer the club to play on Sunday's 3pm, and then switch Saturday evenings from May onwards.
If the trial does not prove to be succesful then by all means revert back to Sunday's at 3pm. The club would of attempted something different, and at least tried.

That crowd was bumped up because they were displaying the plans of their new stadium.

No, they borrowed Salford's artist impressions for the afternoon.
