You will notice I mention away support and not the home attendances that you are referring to. As a percentage of their home following, Widnes' travelling support isn't much to write home about.

Still we have the best away support in our league, we take quite alot more than anyone elso.

Go many Widnes away games? Just because we didn't bring 1,000 to Leigh on a thursday night you lot like making a point CONSTANTLY which is simply bitterness.

The thing with away support is... Don't expect to get any... Ever!
Hunslet had maybe about 50 (or 30 noisy, lol) last week and the reaction was good from Widnes fans to see / hear a few.

Why bang on every week about 'pitiful away support' as you know it's going to happen so get on with it! If you think it hinders reaching the 2,500 or whatever well it will for everyone!

Why ?
RL is a sport not a business, fans will follow there team and many will follow a team regardless of how successful it is.
I'd imagine Hunslet will be expecting a sizeable support from Leigh and will have budgeted as such to account for that.

Really though you can't say anything about Widnes' away support, if you look at lasts years attendances most games with Widnes in, home or away, that game will have the highest attendance of that round.

They'll be expecting more from Widnes, oh and they'll get more.

But they should be well supported.
They have been able to pretty much build on what will be a return to SL since the last franchise farce and have managed to salvage some support after everything that has happened (the way they got relegated etc).
Lets be honest most clubs in this division havn't had anywhere near as much time in the big league in the last 20 years compared to Widnes, the tough task for them though starts now as I'm sure theres a generation of Wire and Saints fans walking around the Halton Borough that would have followed the local club had it been in SL.

I'd expect Widnes , Leigh , Fev and Halifax to be at the top of away support in the Championship , in fact it'll probably be the same next year (minus Widnes but along with Wakefield).

Well your saying both there! Yes the likes of Hunslet may think they'll get higher away crowds will be another benefit of promotion but for us it's hardly ever going to differ. Will get better off you maybe extra 100 from
Fev & Fax but that's about it.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Widnes would expect to make anything off Hunslets support , I'd imagine it will from Wigan and Wire etc next season though, someone will be looking at that........even if its just to order more programmes and half time pasties for the away support

Talking of programmes....if the interest in what's in this week's 'Centurion' is indicative of the support for either team on Sunday - almost three times as many people have read what's in the programme, on Widnes board, than have on ours.

I hope that means we might actually sell a few, this week!

Well then it was a bit of a daft statement, Given that no matter what when you play away at Hunslet or Batley you are not going to be taking part in a well attended match. Even if you take 500 fans with you.

Its bleeding stupid that this discussion is happening, Widnes and Leigh are 2 of the best supported clubs in this divison on our travels, Which when you consider the Yorkshire Dominance in Team numbers, it puts both clubs in a good light.

Personally i will be delighted if we manage to bring 1k or more on Sunday and i would imagine the Leigh club would be too.

Too true, Tony! And even if it's 'only' 500, the Leigh club will miss them next season, when your replacements bring about 50!

Not sure about that Alan.I think wakey,cas or salford will have a decent away support.

Wakey have never travelled well in SL. Tbh with them coming down wouldn't be suprised if it took them 2 years to drop to 2,500 home fans.

I suppose it could depend on the level of success and the quality of rugby they get to see each week.

We didnt travel to Widnes but overall our away support is pretty good.
Plus we will take more to Leigh then we did to Widnes as Leigh is a nicer place and has a nicer stadium.

And for that response I will be delighted to buy you a pint before our match next season.

From my experience, Leigh have a sizeable away following. Can't really judge Widnes other than at Leigh games and they always bring more than most, even when their numbers are reduced, like last year. Obviously you have to take into account the 'derby' factor though...
