I don't think that anybody would say that we would've got to SL without Derek's money, the point being raised is that for all the investment made, should have a hell of a lot more to show for it than one season in SL and an apparent implosion of the club.

Harold, I've said before I've watched Leigh since 1961 and this is the worst situation we have been in,even worse than when the Blackpool Mafia tried it on,to say you can name at least 20 worse episodes,you should be on Tenable with Warwick Davis.

At the moment we have a handful or no players,our Coach is linked to Widnes and in today's RL paper we are being taken to an Employment Tribunal by a player who has not been paid in full since September. How are we going to atract future signings with this happening?

The history of the club, on the excellent Leigh Life website, says that the group of enthusiasts who built the stadium, 'cleared some fields, on the edge of the town.' The 1905 map, on the same website, shows church fields and other fields, on the site.

Oddly enough, in looking back at the history of our club, trying to find an answer to B&B's question about what HP was built on, I stumbled across instances of running out of money, running out of players, having no kit, having no ground to play on, etc. etc. It DOES sound familiar, eh? Of course, all this was between the two World Wars, and was, obviously, before my time!

Was the original home ground on the site of the old Leigh Harriers track on Holden Road or elsewhere ? I forget.

Yes, that was one of our homes Ste. Prior to that, we were at Mather Lane, where the old 'main' stand at HP was transferred from.

I am 47 so as you can imagine I was a regular at Hilton Park but can't begin to imagine a ground at Mather Lane, whereabouts was it, near the Post Office?

Apparently on the Frog Hall Estate - I haven't a clue where that was!!

I remember reading that they put a type of "blue heritage sign" on an house on Mather Lane, where the old ground was - I think!!!

I think that was blue & white tape around it saying "Police" on it, maybe it was another crack den ?

The ground was situated behind the top end of Rugby Rd / Henry St apparently.

The Blue 'Heritage' Plaque is exactly where you say, as you walk round the corner into Rugby Rd, it is on a lower garden wall by the pavement.
It commemorates the first match in the Northern Rugby Union, very close to this site v Leeds in 1895.

And without Derek we would be in a better situation than the s**thole we are in at the moment. So 1 season in SL is worth the dire predicament we now find ourselves in. Well, congratulations DB from Maurice. You have done him proud. Wake up for God's sake. He's brought the club to it's knees. That isn't a successful owner. That's a clown (sorry Charlie!!)
