Good to see the RFL's long term franchising plan of building a team up for 3 years really working for my club !

This was always going to happen and is exceptionally frustrating as a fan to see the club slowly being taken apart to become no more than a feeder club for a few local SL clubs.
Thats 2 of this years best players from our squad and our coach in SL next year, I suspect thats not the end of it.

Its pretty obvious that once any of our team showed skill they would have got poached as we are going nowhere in a dead league and any good player/coach will have ambition and wants to better themselves.
As we are in a closed shop league I can't blame anyone for getting out and wish them all well, as a fan I wish my ambitions for my club could be realised but I'm afraid the long term future looks grim if I'm being realistic.

Anyone think we would have lost our best ever coach and some of the players if we was in with a realistic chance of promotion to a higher league ?

I am not going on to look again, it's only annoying me, we are about to lose a coach who we worship and they do nothing but slag him off and don't want him.

I didn't have a problem loosing the players as I thought we had a coach that would spot another Ellis or Hill or Hunter Paul but now? I really worry for our club.

No coach is bigger than the club Tony, he will move on and so will we. Let's not forget that Hill played for us for five seasons before Basil arrived.

What is a shame is that this might affect our ability to attract some DR players next season , which will further deplete our squad

What is for certain as pointed out by our Andy is that Basil (Mark 2) is the longest serving coach we've had a Leigh since Paul Terzis.

I think Kieron Purtill would be the ideal appointment but that depends on the finances, I suppose.

Paul Rowley is on contract for another couple of years, my money would be on him.

He's been to quite a few Leigh games this year-he goes in the Robin Hood beforehand, he's probably watching Tom Armstrong but a bit of me thinks he has a soft spot for us.

Yes he would be, but he may be setting his sights higher.

Leigh is definately the best 'stepping stone' for coaches as Murphy (3 times), Eric Hughes (to Saints), Steve Simms (to Halifax), Millward to Saints and now Cas! There wern't many takers for Millward when Wigan dumped him and he has shrewdly used his time at Leigh to get back to SL, the difference this time is the Club he is joining are not expected to win honnors so lets see how he performs? Many people said he inherited great players at Saints! I think he is a good coach although, I want that to be the last Leigh employ him I've got sick of seeing Murphy back!

This was always going to happen IMO, don't think anyone can begrudge him at taking the job. He's done a fantastic job for us and I just hope we make the right appointment to carry on the work IM has had a heavy influence in both on and off the field.
