Couldn't make it to Fax today and I think that this Leigh team has more to come under Ian. Fantastic result today. Please can someone give us a run down of the events.

Got called in for work last night and just got back. I am not surprized we won but I am at surpized at the size of the victory. I thought we could squeek this one if we continued to improve on what I have been seeing on DVD but never expected such a big margin.
Well done to all at Leigh. This is the kind of win that should resonate through the town and bring back lapsed supporters and encourage new ones.

Unfortunately the apathy to the club and the sport in general in the town these days will ensure that won't happen.

I bet we can get gates to 3000 with little effort.

About 700 to 800 Leythers i would have thought, made loads of noise as well.

I bet we get less than 2K when we play Batley on Easter Monday. The club has no strategy to attract fans into the stadium other than hoping that a winning side will put bums on seats.

well if you ask me, the best marketing strategy you could possibly have is a winning team playing entertaining rugby - the people of Leigh know their rugby and also know gimmicks when they see one. As the saying goes, you can't ice a turd and call it a wedding cake.

How many of the people of Leigh will know about the result within 2 hours of the finish of the game - thousands. There are enough people in Leigh who know the games are on and know what the sport is about to have a decent crowd - marketing isn't really going to help a whole lot.

We've had 5 years of tripe served up to the public of Leigh. They are a very unforgiving lot and won't come back in their droves overnight. It will take more than a winning team to get the crowds back. The hard work begins now. The foundations have been laid by Milward, can the club build on them?????????????/

But the question is, what marketing is going to work and who is going to pay for it? You can have dancing girls

, cowboys, americana themes, hattons high ball..whatever you want..its all gimmicks..non-one buys it - it might entertain you a bit and take your mind off the tripe you are watching. The best marketing is the free stuff - every Leyther who went to that game today, bursting with pride for the next week at work and to their mates, telling them how good it was. Thats what will do it - because its REAL. There is no substitute for that.

So then, what are you going to do this week for the cause?

People want to watch a successful well run club, imo the club is now finally being well run with the right results the attendances will rise, there will be no massive increase overnight but if the lads on the field keep performing you will see a gradual increase. The other issue is how do you get they away support to travel to games if you take the Wigan and Warrington games away what would the average away support have been this season?

well we have had the fast winger thread, then the Lobby thread, then the pitch thread, now its the turn of this one again, criticism without offering any assistance is negative which helps no-one, if you have any ideas then DAVE BRADSHAW 0r ANNETTE on 01942 487887 are the ones to contact .

I agree Fred. Simple example - my son just turned 5 and he lives 3000 miles away from a rugby game, but I told him today I was happy because my team won. His response was to go and put on his ful leigh kit, shirt, shorts and socks ïn honour of the victory"! He knows nothing about the team really or the sport (although I'll be taking him to a game when I am next over) but what matters to him is the passion I have for it - so he is into it as well (as far as he can be). If every one of the 2000 or so hardcore fans instilled the same passion into their kids and family (and many do already I know) then that is where it all starts..not flashy expensive marketing campaigns..but with each one of us. It will not happen overnight as someone has said..but its about putting roots down...bring your son, daughter nephew or niece (or god children!) and invest in the future...
