I don't think we should retain Jock but Smith is not the answer.

I think Jock is a good player myself, all he needs is a bit of confidence building up.

For a club currently in SL that will be what they have to play for from 2012 , I me sure they will be fine with that

If it means joining a comp where anyone can beat anyone (and regularly does!) and where you're not conceding a cricket score each week then yes, I suspect they will be fine with that.

Some fans make me laugh - Jock is not good enough. Several years ago he was at Leigh. We let him go (presumably coz he was not good enough). He ended up at Rochdale. He later re-signs for Leigh



Was there any chance of him ever being wanted by a top Championship side? Probably not - therefore that tells me one thing.
The same can be said for Maden / Alstead.
Once a player leaves Leigh and ends up at Rochdale / Swinton / Oldham we should not really sign them again.

Smith would be a great signing with Nicholson as his back up.

Having Smithy's experience spelled with the enthusiasm of a young 'un could increase speed at the PTB and would also aid the younger players' development.

Smith plays the way Rowley used too, and lets face it we havent had a decent Hooker since he retired.

i think we are missing something, we have not had a regular loose forward, now i think smith would fit in at 13, allowing nicholson to learn from both him and duffy.

When Basil signs players I expect he takes into account where that player will fit into his side.

Utility players are fine but certain roles are best suited to those who play their best in their own particular position.

Smith shouldnt even be mentioned in the same breath as Rowley. Rowley was pure class and well Smith isnt and never was.

These points are spot on and as mentioned in Kohe Love threads a problem we have competing at international level we seem to want huge players just because the likes of Inglis are huge rather than promoting skilful RL footabllers who make up with their feet and hands for lack of size!

Utility players are cracking for squad members but for first team they aint too useful!

For example you couldn't say to me Coyle is better than Webster & Smith as he can play 9 & 7 when Webster was clearly the better half back and Smith the better hooker!
