| Quote ="ste747"Right iv'e got the toys back in my pram (after the last two results), Where do we go from here?, IMO we build on the Fantastic , above expectation season we have just had to try and ensure that should we be in a similar position at the end of the regular season again we can have more of an idea what we could face and be more prepared for it, i don't know if it is an option for a champ club but could we hold money back until nearer the qualifiers to add strength or speed to complement the lads after a long hard season. We have a big media push Celebrating our league topping season and informing people what a learning process the Super 8's have been and how we know the areas we were beaten and we are going to do everything to make sure 2016 will have a very different result and to make sure you are part of it because as it proved in the Super 8's, EVERY MINUTE MATTERS (my god ain't that true
) basically i feel we have to try and push the positives.'"
That's what Wakey and Bulls did but it depends on whether the deadline is changed. I imagine Leigh were like Bulls where some players in a large squad were not needed and some released without even playing...I think they only count against cap if play a competitive match. A smaller squad next year and higher quality is how we will go. It's almost like needing a team for pre - qualification and another for the business end.....A bit of creative accountancy needed.

There will be a few who have been on here a much longer time who will have a little chuckle at that statement.

| I thought Paul Rowley came over very well on BBC TV this week. He spoke well about your performance in the qualifiers. Don't know of course what he was saying before your poor results but if your owner, players and spectators show similar realism you might do a bit better next season. That's assuming of course that you get in the top four and don't have points deducted for intentionally spending over the salary cap.

It's not even possible without some serious accounting malpractice - which would likely land the responsible parties in court facing HMRC on tax fraud charges.
The RFL monitors salary cap compliance 'live' these days, and will not register a player if his salary payments, inc. bonuses, would take the club over the salary cap. Derek's talk (and it's only been intimated at by a regional newspaper) is designed to pressure the RFL in to raising the Championship salary cap.

Well said Michael. You would have thought folk might have grasped that by now. Obviously not.

| Could you seriously see the RFL deducting 29 points off ANY SL club, or Leigh for that matter?
They were given the chance when Wigan dodged relegation by rorting the cap the year Cas went down.

For the kind of cheating that would be required to break the current system of a live salary cap, I would expect the RFL to take the matter very seriously and I would anticipate serious consequences from other authorities. This is not like the previous system where accidental and minor breaches could happen easily, to break the salary cap now requires deception.

I wish I had your faith in the RFL. Barrow? HMRC would not be involved if Leigh just broke RFL rules.
Of course I do not know if he actually said he would break the cap but it a real possibility when you consider his other outbursts. You also must believe he did if you know why he said it. He told you his reasons did he or are you a mindreader?

Wigan's breach was neither minor nor accidental. Cas were hard done by.

I think what he actually said was that he needed to make signings now, rather than wait till the end of the 8s and confirmation of what division and salary cap would apply (this was before the Bradford game).
So, question is if Bradford or Wakefield want to make signings before the million pound game, what salary cap will the RFL be holding them to when approving the registrations?

I don't think it's difficult for the RFL to check payments made and salaries issued match up with what is stated upon signing, especially in hen oh on alert.
As for Derek's reasons - it's speculation on my part, but putting pressure on the RFL is the most likely reason for the comments.

That is a very good point.
Does anybody know the answer, including the RFL

Simply put a clause in the contract stating the contract is enforceable if the team are in Super League. If the team are not in Super League either the player is released or on a lower level salary. These things can be planned for.

Few players of the calibre required would sign a contract that leaves their future up in the air until such time as most clubs have finished doing business or don't have a great deal of their playing budgets left.

I think you are being a bit over dramatic with your statement ,I'm a big Rowls fan I think he is doing a very good job, but if for whatever reason we came to part company with Paul, life and the Club would go on,we have been in worse positions in the past and survived, there are plenty of Coaches who would jump at the cane to come to Leigh,I'm hopeful we won't need them to come though
I think it's the same with Derek,if Derek decided he had ,had enough them believe me someone would step into his shoes again hopefully it won't happen,I have heard again only this morning rumours of Mrs Koukash coming personally I think that's all they are Rumours .

It wouldn't be the end of everything but this is Rowley's team, he seems to have created a great atmosphere amongst the players & got a team playing better than the sum of it's parts. If we lost Rowley it'd be a massive gamble & would take a long time for the team to settle into the new regime.

| But what happened to that atmosphere in the 8's. Players throwing their arms up in disbelief, little squabbles on the pitch....not something we saw in the regular season.

It was obviously temporary, it wouldn't have helped the atmosphere by planning new blood and shedding dead wood.
