| I must admit that words used in that Wigan council press release could help to sway public opinion away from Leigh East. And they know it.
East cancelling council meetings to discuss the situation,East not paying towards the maintenance of the club house despite bar profits of £10k, a responsibility for tax payers money spent more equally in the community etc etc
Disgraceful behaviour by the council.

| BTW if you ever get the council to agree to a public meeting we'll come down and broadcast it on Leighlife.

Agree that £10 would be too much to ask.
It would be interesting to see what the councils vision is should the club fold (i sincerley hope it doesn't). They would probably lose even more !!
Heres praying for a bit of common sense, and well done to Janet who put Easts side of the story to Beswick well. Its just a pity no-one from the council had to balls to debate it live. Beswick would have had a field day !!'"
subs are £6 a week.i think £4 goes to the club and the other goes into the team as well as what funds the parents can make during the season.not sure at the miners I think its either £2.50 or £3 per week

6 quid a week! Bloody hell must be a more wealthy lot over there - it's £15 a month at Miners with discounts for siblings (and there are no bar proceeds either). Still, I hope things turn out okay for the black and reds!

I think its £4 for a second child but 2 kids a tenner a week is stretching it but if it goes upto say £10 a child you could be paying anywhere say between £60-£80 a month for 2 kids and £40 for one child(only a rough guide).of course the council are not bothered about things like this, they just appeare to have blinkers on and seem to just want to go one way.

Lets be honest, the facilities available at East are far better than the Miners.

Is that junior section because what rent do they pay compared to east for their fields because if east rent was lower im sure subs would be less

In what way? - East junior section has use of the outside pitch and the plastic pitch - Manchester Road has the main full size pitch, 2 further full sized pitches, 2 mod-league pitches and 2 mini-league pitches. In winter the junior section utilises the all-weather facilities at Bedford High, Lowton & St Marys. Work has just commenced on extending the clubhouse/changing rooms. So in what way is Leigh East facilities FAR BETTER than Miners?

| Quote ="cherry & white"How can they say they are acting in the interest of spending the tax payers money when the council bailed out the LSV as a whole to the tune of £500,000 last year? they have 2 execs who run the village and are paid over £100,000 a year.
secondly why would they want the bar when they have been franchising there own out? they run very few bars now? the one at the stadium? monaco? let Leigh east franchise it out if thats the case!
Top and bottom every year they move the goal post and offer empty promises, the people we deal with are bullies and are ultimately puppets for LPS. Why should we trust them when everything they have given or offered they have subsequently taken away.
Yours Frustrated parent'"
The council must be bonkers if they think that the Administrative Incompetents that are, the LSV,can operate the clubhouse. It is no secret I,m sure Mr Chairman will vouch that the the SMT @ Leigh Sports Village have wanted total control of the "Pavilion" since the stadium was handed over in 2008.
LSV have approx 24 employees, guesstimate salary £550,000. That takes some finding for a sports stadium that by its own admission can only take 40 fixtures per year. The rent for office space and tenancy agreements i would think/hope cover the utitilities and other running costs. I believe the original management structure for the Lsv called for a stadium manager to oversee the day to day running and responsibility to various staff (groundsmen, marketing, maintainance), answering to a board of directors made up of various council employees. looking through the archives i can find no advertised vacancies for a CEO or Operations Director. Ivory towers need to fall and the original vision needs to be revisited. A community stadium with affordable/quality spectator facilities. opposed to a facility sold to the highest bidder.

Have you seen the attached?
This part especially...
Level of social (ie non-sporting) income: This will effectively limit the amount of social income (eg bar and restaurant income, venue hire etc) that can be generated by a club. Different sports may be affected to varying degrees by these proposals but some clubs could potentially be adversely affected (although ultimately there should be the option to establish a trading subsidiary to enable all clubs to remain in the scheme). Sport will also need to be aware of plans to define a social member and a guest for the purposes of the scheme. - See more at: www.sportandrecreation.org.uk/lo ... zDSt4.dpuf

| If you look at the Wards represented on Wigan Council you can identify about ten that must have Centurions fans living in them, namely:- Leigh East, Leigh South, Leigh West, Astley/Mosley Common, Atherleigh, Atherton, Hindley, Hindley Green, Tyldesley and Lowton East. This means that there are thirty councillors that can be approached, these councillors hold surgeries to discuss problems with their constituents. So get mithering.
Interestingly Councillor Cunliffe (Leigh East) is a member of the Cabinet and Councillor Whiteside (Leigh West) is Chairman, Children & Young Peoples Scrutiny Committee, not forgetting the big boss himself, Lord Smith allegedly represents Leigh West.

| I have just read the twitter reply from WMBC in which they state that it is the Councils intention to put Leigh Sporting Village PLC in charge of operating the bar in the club.
This statement has clearly been made by persons who have no idea of how the Licensing regulations work.
Leigh East Social Club operates under a Club Premises certificate ( formally a Registration Certificate ). This is not a Licence and the premises are not Licenced Premises. It is therefore not possible for WMBC or anybody else for that matter to take over the bar as it stands. In order to do this the Council will have to apply for a Licence in order to sell alcohol from these premises. Leigh East do not sell alcohol they supply it to their members and guests under the provision of a Registration Certificate. You need a licence to sell alcohol and Leigh East do not have one.
In order to obtain a licence public notices have to be given, ie local press, and other legal proccedures followed. This is to allow the public to make objections if they wish. The club would then become a pub in effect if the Councils application was successful. There is a new pub less that 200 yards from the club, a hotel and several licensed bars in the stadium why do we need another licensed premises in this small area.
I can certainly foresee several hundred at the very least lodging objections to this application.
I also see that the Council, in their reply, making reference to the club making substantial annual profits. I also read somewhere amongst the numerous posts on this topic that the Council advised the club that it should be run on a commercial basis. A registered club cannot be run on a commercial basis as this is one of the qualifications needed for registration. All the club proceeds belong to the members of the club, to be used for the benefit of the members and it is for the membership to decide how this is done but it is not to be done for commercial purposes. The way the proceeds are used is of no concern to WMBC or anybody else.
Leigh Sporting Village Plc could not obtain a Registration certificate to run this bar and they could not use the certificate of Leigh Easts. As I said they would have to obtain a licence.
This decision has been taken by persons who have no idea idea of the licensing regulatuions in relation to registered clubs. It is not a sensible decision in my opinion and one that could prove costly for the ratepayers of Leigh and Wigan. I can see very few, if any, locals using the bar if the council succeed with his application

| Don't the LSV run the bars now at the stadium? If so it is all classed as the same site so they will just add the Easts bar to the others.
